Tochiro Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 With the DVD/Bluray release of Sayonara no Tsubasa nearly upon us, a number of smaller promotional events/exhibitions have been taking place around Tokyo this week. I just so happened to have a half-day off on Tuesday and headed out to see what was going on. First, I dropped by Shibuya to check out the new promotional posters for the 'Beauty Mist' that Sheryl is being used to promote. The area i had been directed to seemed like any old nondescript urban crosswalk...but wait what was that on the corner? Yep, there it was. featuring new artwork from Ebata, and including Ranka this time as well. I then headed over to Shinjuku where a follow-up to February's Oshare Macross event was being held. On the way, I noticed that a local Pachinko hall was promoting the Macross Frontier pachinko game. Marui One in Shinjuku must have obviously thought that the theatrical release tie-in event they did earlier in the year was a success, because they decided to hold a sequel event of sorts. The first floor was, once again, a temporary Macross-themed store. While it wasnt as large as it previously had been, it did feature several specially designed t-shirts that will apparently only ever be available during the event period. At 5000yen a pop, the shirts are rather pricey although i did pick up one - a japanese artists rendition of what a Macross Frontier American-style comic book cover would look like. I wish they would make the damn thing into a poster. It's hilarious. Other items on sale included the elusive Vol. 3 of the Macross F Creator's Magazine Nyancuretto, jewelry, and the biggest rack of PSP cases i had ever seen. The 7th floor featured another fashion collaboration with several well known designers. With staff guarding each of these, getting photo's was unfortunately impossible (even OtakUSA's Patrick Macias got jumped by security back during the February event). Behind the fashion exhibition, however, as a small corner of pencil art and some Macross related items. Of course, photograpgy was strictly prohibited.......bah, who am I kidding? I managed to sneak a couple. The first floor was also offering, once again, a Macross Frontier-themed range of deserts. On the way home I stopped by a local arcade to try to win some of the latest figures. (which i ended up picking up in Akihabara afterwards anyway) 4 of the 5 figure shops I browsed in Akihabara were playing Macross Frontier tunes - I'd say the fanbase is pretty good and hyped for the DVD/BR release! Have you seen the SIZE of the box for the collectors edition. Not only does it have some sweet Tenjin artwork on it, the thing is also freakin' huge! Quote

Renato Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Hmmm.....from the first post in this thread "Tired of posting a new thread for 1 news item? Got a scoop? Post it here. No discussions. " What if the "scoop" is wrong and needs clarification? Should we make a thread just dedicated to Mari's rabbit, in that case? Should we make a thread about the AKB48 anime even though it may have nothing to do with Macross? I don't think the "no discussions" rule should apply to general Macross news, since some do warrant discussion. I know why the rule is there in the Toy section, since every new toy announcement will bring about its own thread, but I think it doesn't work in this case. Quote

Dangard Ace Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Some discussion for clarification is fine. I didn't delete those, completely on topic and helpful. I did delete the generic "I agree!" "that's what I'm talking about!" "woohoo!!" etc posts. Mari's bunny being ill is a Macross related scoop? Really? I'd classify that more as OT. but hey if everyone thinks the new Scoop thread isn't needed lets lock it and make news thread the usual way. Quote
Renato Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Mari's bunny being ill is a Macross related scoop? Really? I'd classify that more as OT. Exactly, it's not -- but the "Scoop" was that her husband was ill. Which he's not, and if I don't come into this thread and correct that, then she may start receiving "condolences" emails or whatever I'm more than happy to stick to the rule if it means we can keep the pointless chitchat to a minimum, but there is plenty of room for exceptions, so I suggest it be relaxed a little more, so it's not such a hard-and-fast, stifling rule, which, when it comes to news and rumours, can do more harm than good. Strumvogel Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 He's unlikely to be free to do anything if the AKB project in in April unfortunately. It takes close to two years of pre-production for an anime series and on-going support until the last week before the final episode airs. Unless he takes only an nominal role as producer and/or the show is is one of those really quickly flash-like animations, he won't have much time for anything else. Guess his success in producing a succesful anime where music takes an important role has led to this. Quote
Xard Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Translation of Kawamori's comment regarding AKB48 project (guys this is HUGE, this is by far the most ambitious project in the industry right now and if succesful we're talking about sales rivalling Eva here. Macross is a peanut game in comparison) by a friend: I am thinking of fusing the latest CG technology with the "professional spirits" of those idols into a traditional animation that Japan prides herself on, and delivering to the whole world a touching work in which there are laughters, tears and dances and raise the spirit of everyone. I plan to express the subtle expression and feelings of those girls by undergoing them via deformation process with warmth that can only be made by hand-drawn animation. I want to come up with a high quality video work that is dynamic and speedy while the girls' individual character will also come out. The story will also be thoroughly original. It will be a tale that is fresh and can be enjoyed by everybody. Please stay tuned to find out how the AKB48 members and the story will get involved with each other. My take on Kawamori's schedule for 2012? Aquarion EVOL 2012 (1 cour? 2 cour? Who knows) AKB48 spring or summer 2012 (again no idea if 1 or 2 cour show) Then in October on day first episode of SDFM aired 30 years ago we get special airing of first episode of next Macross series/OVA as a sneak peak. This is what happened with Macross Frontier in 2007 and just like the series itself followed in 2008 spring I suspect the "full" next Macross series we get to see comes in 2013. Quote
