What does it say?

Scanlation:

"If you only want to cry, please cry

Laugh when it's time to laugh

(best guess for the last part is): one step at a time"

Macross Ace magazine informed us of a Mikimoto exhibition in Roppongi, on the day that it finished. Thanks a lot, guys.

http://www.academyhills.com/library/book/entrance/tqe2it00000eembe.html

According to the mag and some other sources, the last day was supposed to be the 31t of March, but the Roppongi Library's official page (above) states that it was on Sunday.

I really wanted to see those sketches. :(

Anyone interested in bidding on some items Tenjin is auctioning off for quake charity?

http://page3.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c273910088?u=;standupjapan_charity#enlargeimg

Just to fill in some details as to what he's actually auctioning off -- it's the RIGHT to commission him to draw your most beloved machine/vehicle/whatever. So if you own a car, or a cherished mountain bike you want immortalized "BOX-ART" (model kit packaging illustration) style for posterity, Tenjin will draw it, paint it up in his own inimitable way and give you an A4 version.

Sounds wicked cool to me, and the chance of a lifetime. B)) I doubt you can just say "oi, draw me a VF-1, mate", though. :p

That is very cool indeed... I imagine that the winner will have to spend a pretty penny to win. Let's hope he/she has machine that is worth Tenjin's time and talents.

Interesting tweet today by Danny Choo.

"Working with Big West and Tatsunoko Production on Macross stuff. Its all approved and am just over the moon."

He also tweeted a similar tweet in Japanese. Going by the Japanese tweet he means the original series which he would probably have to work with both on for a project since he is based in Tokyo.

Actually, his later tweet kinda gives more to the story:

The Culture Japan that features Macross will obviously be called "Deculture Japan"

So yes, Danny will be featuring Macross in an upcoming episode in Season 2 of Culture Japan. Stay tuned for details...

Or follow Danny on Twitter and Facebook.

Probably not. Probably interviews and a feature on the history , cultural impact, etc.

Cultural impact? It no doubt had an impact in the anime culture what with all the homage in other animes and being the first anime to utilize music as an integral part of the show, and do it successfully, but culture at large? I must be missing it.

Ponder the origins of the word "otaku" in the derogative sense in the Japanese vernacular, among other things.

Posted

I suppose so on that use of the word would have been popularised by the show, or were they just the first to do so in popular media? That word must have been around way before then wouldn't it? That is one of the things I'm still pondering about.

Mr. Patrick Macias came over to Meiji University, where Professor Kaichiro Morikawa showed off some priceless (?) Shoji Kawamori original preliminary Valkyrie design sketches (skip to the 17min mark for this, though the whole thing is worth watching).

Wow. They're all done on A4!

Those truly are a piece of anime history.

All in all that library just seems like an awesome place.
