taksraven Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Terry Gilliam has been one of the greatest things to come out of Flying Circus, that goes without saying. His films are always visually stunning but if there is any one criticism that could be levelled against him its that he often does not pay as much attention to the actual script. (The other criticism levelled against him would be about funding his films but since that is the concern of FRC studio exec's, who cares) Anyway, I imagine that a few of us will be going to see his latest film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, when its comes out so I thought I would start a thread on it. Anyway, trailer here. Taksraven Quote
Duke Togo Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Early reviews have not been kind, which saddens me. I love his work. Quote
EXO Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Gilliam hasn't been good since the Fisher King.... hang it up buddy! You too Lawrence Kasdan! Quote
Keith Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Now this I'll go see, Terry Gilliam is full of infinate kinds of awesome. Also for those who don't know, he's finally got "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" back on track for production next year. Quote
Radd Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Early reviews have not been kind, which saddens me. I love his work. How often have reviewers been kind to his movies, though? If I'm recalling correctly both "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" got a lot of poor reviews, and those are two of my favourites. Gilliam hasn't been good since the Fisher King.... hang it up buddy! You too Lawrence Kasdan! "12 Monkeys" wasn't bad, and "Fear and Loathing" is probably my second favourite Gilliam movie (I have trouble deciding if I like that or Munchausen more). I haven't seen "Tideland", but "Brothers Grimm" was a paycheque movie where Gilliam had relatively little control. Hardly a basis for saying he hasn't been good since '91. Quote
Duke Togo Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 True enough, Radd, I am with you. But what I read, if I recall correctly, was written by those who like his work. Quote

Don't forget Brazil and Time Bandits, they were both great films. Taksraven Quote
Graham Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Brazil is definitely his best work IMO. Graham Quote
