How much is the Bandai Elintseeker 1984 Valkyrie MISB worth?

Recommended Posts

So I have come across one of these. Robotech Macross Elintseeker Valkyrie from 1984. Its MISB and the box seems to be a 9.5 or 10 from looking at it briefly. Yellowed tape sealed on both sides, clear window, sharp corners and edges. The guy wants $1000 for it. I would like to know what would it be worth as is, and if I buy it, I plan to get it AFA graded, so as a 9-10 AFA graded what would it be worth? Although I may just keep it, Id like to know what you guys think its worth it both states. Thanks for your time and input!!!

If you love chunkies and have a collection of other 1984 Valkyrie or really want to start one then give him the thousand dollars.

If you just want a nice Elintseeker, get the Yamato version which is coming soon.

Do you have pics or a link to this VE-1 you're talking about?

As per your questions and concerns, obviously with the released of the VE-1 and VT-1 version 2 has affected the value of the vintage 1/55 VE-1. Not only that, but a flood of Macross goodies which are far superior than the 1/55 in terms of articulations, anime line art, accessories, tampo, countless features, price, etc...

Even if you want it to be AFAed, I don't think you'll get your money back at all. Unless its for personal collection where you want to put it up like a shrine, sure. Personally, for MISB VE-1 I would probably willing to pay about $600-700 bucks. But that's just me.

I dont have pictures, I saw it in a shop yesterday and been thinking about it. I dont collect valkys but a Robotech fan. I would like to keep it for a while just for the coolness of the figure and it's rarity but may sell it one day and it's been hard to find a price value. MIB ones seem to go for around $800, I would think a MISB one should be around $1300-$1500 and a AFA graded at least $2000...

If you don't already collect and you're just a fan, my suggestion would be to save yourself the money and get a Yamato Valkyrie instead :)

Im not a fan of the Yamatos. I like the old school "chunkey" ones, they are the ones that I grew up with and to me they are a lot better, the Yamatos are thinner and smaller and have to be taken appart to transform. Nothing like thick plastic and metal with the sharp CLICK and the feel of the 1/55. I wouldnt get the Yamato. I am just considering this one Elintseeker. Its so much to spend on a figure, its insane to me...but this is a super duper rare fig. I dont know what would be worth more $$ in Robotech or Transformers than this piece. This has to be so incredibly rare MISB with a c9.5 box, I mean who actually has one of these?

Where exactly is this shop: city, state, number... and the name of this shop??

The seller is asking $1,000 bucks for a MISB, but no one is willing to pay that kind of money for it. Especially, in this economic down turn. Aside from its rarity and its asking price, casual fans are most likely to dish out a near $200 bucks for a detailed 1/60 VE-1 Yamato. I'd would give the seller your offer and wait for a counter-offer.

Ill keep the shop info to myself, thanx! The economic downturn is bad, true...but this is the "holy grail" of the Robotech series. AFA graded, should fetch at least $2000. I need to give it some thought, thats soooo much money for a freaking toy!! LOL! Its not really comparable to the Yamatos at all. This is a lot older and a whole lot rarer...

That was true about 10 years ago. I highly recomend you check out the 1/48 and 1/60 version 2.0 Yamatos before spending a thousand dollars on a 1/55...

Yamato valkyrie don't need to be taken apart to transform. They've developed perfect transformation and the sculpts are totally redone and anime/line art accurate.

But to each his own :)

Hmmm, maybe I will check them out! That sounds pretty good. So Pete, in your opinion, the $1000 price tag is not worth it for the 1/55 Elintseeker MISB? You wouldnt touch it for that? From a collectors aspest AS WELL as if you were trying to make money off of it?

Ahhh come on man! I'm just gonna drop a "G" on a MISB and open it so I can restore my childhood.

Not with all these Macross toys saturated and so many options. It was well worth the "G" before Yamato took over and the released 1/55.

AFA graded, should fetch at least $2000.
Based on what brah?? Hmmm...... no set in stone price. Varies on the buyer(s) and what they are willing to pay!

Prices has dipped. So has the Takatoku 1/55. Even a MIB unused VF-1S Strike Valk struggles to sell at approx. $300 bucks.

Full disclosure: I am biased in my opinions since I actually do sell Yamato Valkyrie - however - I can give reasons for my opinion that go beyond my bias.

I think the most important question is whether or not you intend to collect 1/55 old 1984 Robotech figures. If you do - then of course buy the thing for a thousand bucks. I'm intent on starting a collection of Transformers: Victory toys and I know that they are expensive. I've accepted it and will "get around to it" once I have the money. Maybe I'll find stuff a tad cheaper here or there - but in general it won't be cheap. Same for you if you really want 1/55s.

HOWEVER

If you're just looking for one nostalgia piece...then...

Bandai has reissued other chunky munkies and you can get one of those for a lot less. Why fixate on the VE-1?

If you ARE fixated on th VE-1...then...

You're just going to have to answer for yourself whether you're necessarily fixated on the VE-1 or...on the chunky 1984 TOY of the VE-1?

If you love the VE-1 - then you'd do better to get the Yamato (from me naturally ;) )...

If you love the VE-1 1/55 from 1984 - then of course get it.

I would say if your heart is in it - go for it.

But don't buy it without knowing your options.

Given that you seem to not know that Yamato have advanced radically in the production of Valkyrie since the original 1/60 (which yes, you did have to "take apart") - then I am assuming you don't know all your options.

1000 USD can get you a great collection of Yamato valkyrie (from me of course;) - VF-1s and VE-1s. A VF-1 from Yamato is usually around 100 bucks. I sell them for 110 shipped.

Other people might have better prices.

The VE-1 is coming soon from Yamato.

But again - it's your choice. If you love the chunky 1/55 as you say- then go for it :)

In this case turbolove925. AgentGHQ knows what he is talking about. Everyone here knows his HiMetal (Bandai) collection. He has multiple VE and VT mint and sealed. I would listen to him and not pay that crazy amount of money. If you think just because it is AFA Graded it is worth more. You ARE wrong. Sorry. But the truth hurts.

I don't think the OP is gonna take our advices in our area of speciality JCSaves?!

Ill probably end up passing on it, unless the guy drops the price. Its just a huge ammount of money for that thing...then I gotta pay more if I want it graded...

Im sure you guys are right...not a good deal...

Id also rather have one MIB so I can take it out and look at it, the MISB is cool but you dont get to check the figure out, kinda sucks!

Why not ask the seller to go lower and offer him the price you are willing to pay? Otherwise, link me the seller's info and I'll negotiate on your behalf.

What do you think its worth? Give me a dollar figure you think something like this is worth?

once upon a time I miised a boxed 1/55 vt and boxed 1/55 ve for less than $500 on these very boards. I personally would recommend you getting the yammies... more banais for me.

Yeah... I'm back from the dead and agent's collection kicks my butt.. but I run pretty close.

and nobody pm me as I am still mostly dead and don't know when I will be back. Ecept for dragon, gain, and skull.

Save yourself the cash and buy the Yamato v2.0....CHUNKIES FTMFL.

Dude, I have the the 1/60 Yammie VE-1 and I wouldn't recommend it. I saw it and I wanted it but, to tell you the truth, it sucks. It's clunky and heavy. I would tell you to wait for the new 1/60 scale Yammie VE-1. It looks much better and thransforms 100% better than the old version.

I was going to say, the VE-1 has nothing to do with Rowboattech.

I wouldn't say chunkies are lose. The VE-1 is a particularly nice example of a good looking chunky. It's just the new V2 Yammies are so much better in many ways as long as you get over the idea that it's not a kids toy like the chunkies were.

He's already aware of the Yamato 1/60. His interest was in the vintage 1/55.

Btw, is that a Sikrosky MH-60 Sierra?

>but this is a super duper rare fig

The Hi Metal Elintseeker is desired, but it's really not THAT rare. I've seen quite a few of them come up for sale in the past few years... probably more than the Takatoku Miria!

For what it's worth, the "value" of the toy is either a) what it's worth in today's "market" or b) what it's worth to you. I sold another member here an Elint about a year or so ago (or more? I can't recall) that wasn't perfect, but the flaws were pretty minor. As it went for < $500 on ebay, I'd say that for even a C-10 / deadstock / "NRFB" one, $1,000 is a bit on the high side. I can see some crazy collectors wanting to pay that much just to have one super mint, but those types are few and far between. I'm kind of a condition freak and even I can't see spending that much on that particular toy. "Your mileage may vary" as they say however...

Oh, side note, I think that AFA grading is just silly. Why does it matter what someone else grades your toys (unless you plan on reselling them I suppose)?

My 2 cents.

Posted

I wouldn't say its silly to have it AFAed. We are dealing with a MISB VE-1 here and I have never seen one that is SEALED until the OP drops this thread (assuming his claim is true). I can see it AFAed for the die-hardcore collector and fan who use this as a display purpose or probably lease it to Bandai's museum. At least we know the conditioned will be preserved when AFAed.

Speaking of AFAed, I had mine Transformers Optimus Prime MISB '84 U.S. AFAed and scored a 90. I intended to keep this for many years to come. Until an offer of $8,500- was too much to pass up!

>Next person who mentions the "R" word when talking about the VE-1 gets a 100 year ban.

I assume the "r word" you mean is "righteous" as in the phrase, "the Elintseeker is totally righteous, dude!"

Anyway, a 100 year ban is an OK punishment, but I think a better punishment would have the poster receive 1,000 lashes with MIB Elintseekers. ; )

IF the only reason that you think it makes sense for you to get it is because AFa graded $2000 and you can get it for $1000 now, then fetch it up later for $1400 or $1500. You are totally wrong and 10 years behind to do that.

I collect my toys just because I love the valkyries, not thinking to make money off of them.

There are so many options out there and the wise option is V2 for whole collection, from a collector aspect.

I can get 9 Yamato V2 for a grand.

Next person who mentions the "R" word when talking about the VE-1 gets a 100 year ban. :p

I would have RECONSIDERED if I were the OP. The REVISED VE-1 is done RIGHT and to be RELEASED in September. It would ROUGHLY cost only one-fifth as much as the 1984 Bandai RELEASE REGARDING the price. I have RESERVED my unit RECENTLY and am REALLY looking forward to it. It has a RADOME that you won't see on its other RELATIVES. It would also be REDESIGNED with the a new crotch which RETROSPECTS to the 1/48 design for RELATIVELY easier transformation. READ this page for further REFERENCE: http://www.yamato-toys.com/items/detail.php?gid=1388 .

REGARDS,

P.S. How many years ban do I RECEIVE?

Dude, you should totally get it...like right now! I mean c'mon, it's super rare, the holy grail of 1/55's and it's MISB!

$1000 is a small price to pay to be the envy of countless fanboys. Besides, when the nostalgia wears off you can mark it up to twice that amount once you get it AFA'd and get your money back plus some. I'm so jealous that I can't go and buy it myself!

That's really what you want to hear, right?
