Vepariga Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 trailer - MGM has provided us with three "SGU: Stargate Universe" posters and the new trailer for the SyFy show premiering on October 2nd. "SGU" follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them. looks cool i think, more serious tone. Quote
EXO Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 It looks good, but reminds me of another sci-fi show... on a spaceship looking for earth... hmmm... Quote
Keith Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Turn-A Universe, that's going to be awesome! Oh, wait, damnit!! There is no Stargate other than the Kurt Russell movie :::plugs ears:: lalalalala! Quote
ntsan Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 LOL Btw the trailer looks awesome.. hopefully more awesome than the "other" show lol Quote
eugimon Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Looks kinda like Stargate Voyager. looks more like Stargate: BSG I'll watch the first couple episodes, could be good, could be blah. I'm kinda leaning towards blah after that trailer though. Quote
Scream Man Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Im sold. But then Im a big Stargate fan. I miss Atlantis Quote
panzertank Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Looks interesting & an interesting mix of stars too. Quote
Freiflug88 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) looks more like Stargate: BSG Or Stargate: Macross if they activate the stargate with music and build a small city inside their ship for the civilians. Edited July 27, 2009 by Freiflug88 Quote
Akilae Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I won't be able to watch this without thinking of the Fully Monty, lol... Quote
lechuck Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I probably in the minority when I say this, but I actually enjoyed Stargate Atlantis. So I'm kind of looking forward to this to satisfy my Sci-Fi fix. Quote
miles316 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I hope Lou Diamond Phillips isn't going to Die in the first episode like Robert Patrick did. Quote
CoryHolmes Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I hope Lou Diamond Phillips isn't going to Die in the first episode like Robert Patrick did. Yeah. After that first episode, I really wanted Robert Patrick to survive, but sadly.... same thing with that guest-colonel who showed up during the first season finale. I wanted him to survive too, but he ended up croaking. Quote

I wanted him to survive too, but he ended up croaking. He survived the initial feeding, and was sent back to Earth. Quote
eugimon Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I prefer Atlantis to SG1 You know, for a while I thought SG1 was better but the last two seasons of SG1 really sucked. I liked the cast changes, it was that Ori storyline that just dragged and the movie conclusion was so fascist... so the answer is to make them see the "truth"? I did like the last SG1 movie though and if they keep making movies like that I'll be a happy camper. Quote
CoryHolmes Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 He survived the initial feeding, and was sent back to Earth. I meant as a regular character, on the show from day-to-day. That would've been neat. You know, for a while I thought SG1 was better but the last two seasons of SG1 really sucked. I liked the cast changes, it was that Ori storyline that just dragged and the movie conclusion was so fascist... so the answer is to make them see the "truth"? Actually, I enjoyed the Ori storyline. I hated Season 8 with a passion, and to this day I simply refuse to spend money on it. I found S9 and S10 to be far superior and enjoyable. Quote
UN Spacy Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I've only seen the Stargate movie. Do I need to watch the tv shows to know what's going on? Quote
RedWolf Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I've only seen the Stargate movie. Do I need to watch the tv shows to know what's going on? Not nescessarily. Just read the wiki on the plots so you'll have a better grasp. Going over the preview I agree that the potential aggressor here is the Lucian Alliance, a conglomeration of criminals mostly humans who tried to fill the power vacuum after the System Lords were wiped out. Last thing we knew from SG1 the SGC is technically at war with Lucian Alliance for attacking the Oddesey and murdering its captain. SG teams were destroying their Kasa drug trade as a retaliation. The events of SGU pilot could lead to a plot for a SG1 movie. Besides the Lucian Alliance is the only major threat left in our galaxy that needs to be resolved. Quote

I think the ori storyline would have been better if they had tied it up and if the conclusion wasn't so silly. I think maybe the movie really colored how I view the storyline as a whole... I've only seen the Stargate movie. Do I need to watch the tv shows to know what's going on? I doubt it, simply put, there's lots of stargates... the stargates were put up not by those glowy eyed aliens from the movie but by an older more powerful race called the Protocul... err... Progenit... uhm... "Ancients", who have since left our plane of reality and now exist as the Q Contin... uhm as powerful energy types who don't meddle in the affairs of mortals. The stargate program on Earth didn't end and now there are SG teams all over the place, leading revolts, awakening evil alien bad guys from the past, etc etc. I'm sure they'll spend the first couple of episodes doing recaps as to not alienate new viewers. Quote
CoryHolmes Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I agree that season 8 sucked. I think the ori storyline would have been better if they had tied it up and if the conclusion wasn't so silly. You mean like how they'd planned to before Sci-Fi announced that they were whacking the show (after spending months pimping it's 200th episode, no less)? Screwed by the network, indeed. Quote
Wes Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Sci-Fi exec: this lineup's looking pretty good, but it could use alittle more Stargate. Quote
CoryHolmes Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 More like, SciFi-exec: "This Sci-Friday thing of SG-1, SGA, and BSG is working pretty good. We should break it up and spread the love over more days!" Yeesh. There really didn't have to be much thought as to why all three shows pulled their best numbers during that Sci-Friday timeframe... RedWolf Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Casts Thread Resurrection Oct 2 is the premier of SGU. Though you may say its a day early ... I'm setting up this thread back at first page for the coming reviews and impressions of the newest addition to the Stargate franchise. Quote
Scream Man Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 u kidding? Ive been saving download space for this! Bring on the series man, Im ready! Quote
Whamhammer Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 u kidding? Ive been saving download space for this! Bring on the series man, Im ready! Is sci-fi making it available for download? We got rid of our Direct T.V. over the winter and never got anything to replace it. My g.f and I loved Atlantis. Quote

ntsan Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 no, Ill get it off a torrent. It wont get released in Australia for weeks yet. And I dont watch TV anymore anyway, just DL shows and buy DVD's. Well if you have sci-fi channel in Oz it will be released on 9th Oct. Quote
Scream Man Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 i cant afford cable. Its stupidly expensive. My wife said we could get it if i stopped buying toys. i onlt DL TV shows, and then delete them as soon as the show is released on DVD in Australia. Quote
aerocombatpilot Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Just finished watching Stargate Universe, and all I can say is that it 'reeks' of Battlestar Galatica (AND I HATED BATTLESTAR GALATICA!!!). I hope they continue playing SG1 and Atlantis because I'm not wasting my time with this one! Quote
Noriko Takaya Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 This kind of reminds me of Space: 1999. The spaceship being what amounts to Moonbase Alpha shuttling along a human crew looking for a new place to settle and running into adventures on the way. Quote
miles316 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Lou Diamond Philip's is alive hallelujah I was going to pitch a fit if they were not going to give him a decent death. Quote
505thAirborne Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I liked it, Not great... but not Bad either, Although I must admit Doctor Rush reminds me of Gaius Baltar for some reason. Will be fun to see where this new Stargate series goes!! Quote
Ghost Train Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Watched it last night, definitely: Star Gate Galactica, but it was entertaining enough to keep watching, at least until Caprica rolls around. Quote
