I'm half-not looking forward to it, and half am. All I'm going to say is: "Less bullet-time please."

You know, I actually don't mind if they make an actual (mini-)series of the game...

So I finally saw the trailer... everything seems okay until the end. Do they really have to act like as if plasma swords were katanas? That bothers me alot...

Looks promising, though even in the trailer the animation quality was inconsistent.

What do you mean by that? You do realize the project is being done by five different anime studios. It's not just one long movie but actually 5 different short movies in one package. You know, basically the Animatrix and Batman Gotham Knight.

Oooo, it's like animatrix. When I saw the trailer yesterday I thought it was 1 series. No wonder. Well I definitely look forward to this, I'm a big Halo fan and just pre-ordered ODST.

Did i just see an alien in samurai armour?

yes, I saw that when I watched the trailer on my Xbox yesterday night, I was like "WTF? Oh japan...

I have a good feeling about this though, looks like an animated version of the Halo graphic novel, which is a good thing. Also love the rocket sled things and heavy mjolnir armor.

everything seems fine to me.

Aside from the distinct, utter, and total lack of Cortana, you mean. B)) That being said, I'm as hyped about this as you are.

EDIT: After watching that link, I'm fine with the Spartan in question (It's probably Linda-058, the Spartan's chief sniper) jump around like that. Their armour is a strength-enhancing system, so it makes sense that it'd increase jumping ability as well as punching power, etc.

Pfft. A mere poster does not an anime make. Nor does a picture ensure that she's in it. When I hear Jen Taylor's snarky dialog, then I'll be satisfied.

EDIT: That being said... *right-click* *save as* :)

Just finished watching these. Yeah, short of the voices for Cortana and the Chief, totally worthy of the franchise.

Prototype/Be Human was very Macross in the way they handled the animation and combat style of the suit. At least, to me.

Also, I snapped a screen from The Duel, reversed and resized it into a wallpaper. I think it looks 'aight. TheDuel1600.jpg.

IIRC, the director of Prototype used to work for Ichiro Itano, so that would explain it. :p

Is it me or did the suit in Prototype resemble the Studio Nue power armor from Starship Troopers?

Kinda/sorta. The Studio Nue-ST powered armor is has more round limbs. It's probably the head since the heads look about the same.

Honestly, I was quite disapointed with this release. The only one of the shorts that I really enjoyed was Babysitter, followed closely by Prototype, but that's it. I didn't really enjoy any of the others, and the recasting of Chief and Cortana really stood out to me. It would be like re-casting Luke Skywalker for a new Star Wars movie...

Prototype really reminded me of the Full Armor Gundam. If you watch the commentary disc I believe they specifically sate that Murakami(?) who worked in this episode was involved with Itano Circus and so this is Murakami circus.

I was pretty unimpressed with shorts overall. I liked the Cortana intro and the package at least the story/concept was interesting even if I didn't like the animation style. Anyone one else reminded of the Dendrobium when they brought out those booster frames?

Was the Prototype supposed to be the experimental version of the Spartan Armor with the episode taking place several years before the Master Chief Joined/Drafted/Abducted in to the military?

The series explains why the Earth was not making ever soldier a Spartan and why they are not making them any more.

The first episode reminds me of Gunslinger Girls.

Overall, I really enjoyed Legends. It may have had some issues, but I still thought it was pretty good. I wouldn't mind more Halo anime...

Didn't I just say that earlier?

I was thinking the same thing. Watching the GP03 episode of Gundam Evolve makes the similarity even more apparent.

The novels go into more detail in this area--especially The Fall of Reach. Legends doesn't really explain as much. The UNSC did have powered suits before the Mjollnir series; however, the Spartans still got Mjollnir suits early on (the Mk. IV, IIRC), whereas Prototype seems to take place a little later in the war. The original Mjollnir suits could only be used by Spartans because unaugmented humans couldn't withstand the physical stress. The Mjollnir suits were developed in parallel to the Spartan-II program, which started years before humans encountered the covenant.

Spartans were so few because making them was such a difficult and risky process. Because of the augmentation surgery, many of the Spartans either died or ended up with some disability (it may have been half of them, but I can't remember). With that said, they did make more Spartans later on with the Spartan III project (these Spartans are introduced in The Ghost of Onyx).

I'd say "Be Human" was probably the best piece. "Homecoming" was pretty good too but it left me a little bitter at the end. "Babysitters" was not that bad either.

If you like the two Appleseed CG movies, "The Package" was visually entertaining (I still can't get over the Brute strafing at the wall ).

So if Spartans were so rare, why didn't the UNSC fast-track the power-armor project? Power-armor takes a factory to build, thats a lot less than it takes to take a kid and turn him into a super-soldier....

Well they may have been planning to do just that, but the suit (and more than likely the data) was destroyed per the Cole Protocol. Of course the Halo universe would start to resemble Starship Troopers if that happened... :p

Im very much inclined to say that it was already resembling ST.

Ghost said as much when he's getting yelled at for piloting it. He collected all the data and was using the remaining time left on the suit to make sure his people got out safely.

The armor cost was about a match to a small UNSC battleship. And that's PER suit. So each spartan cost the UNSC millions upon millions of dollars.

In Ghosts of Oynx, the SPARTAN-III program was to provide a cost efficient way at a SPI suit, (Semi-Powered Infiltrator) which would be cheaper than the normal Spartan Armor at the time, but still offer some of the same amenities the SPARTANS-II's got.

I did kind of enjoy the series, but it left me feeling like some of these held big contradictions to the cannon. A few like The Babysitter and Homecoming and Package for example were big steps into that as it's reported they had only lost 3 spartans. According to those 3 shows, you lost 2 female spartans, and 2 male spartans, that's 4...granted 1 off, but still. Oh, sorry, they're not dead, they're "MIA"

I just realized that for the first time we have actual pictures of characters like Kelly 087 and Catherine Halsey, thanks to the shorts.

WARNING: Spoilerish links.

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Kelly-087 ==> It's weird though to imagine that she's supposedly 6'5" and in CGI.

Ive only seen 'The Duel' wasnt too bad. Ive been thinking bout getting the dvd/blu-ray but not fully sold yet, whats the best short to those who have seen it?

It's hard to decide. My favorites were Prototype, Homecoming, and Babysitter. If I had to choose one though, I'd say Prototype. I think some of them were watchable individually on Xbox Live; they may still be there if you don't want to buy the disc yet.

That's right, Spartans never die. :p

It didn't seem too out of place. In the novels I've read, I didn't remember them mentioning every single Spartan casualty. There was some ambiguity, IIRC. Either way, with the exception of Odd One Out, all of the stories are considered canon.

I noticed that too. Hopefully it won't be the last time we see them either.

Unfortunately, although the stories themselves are canon, the same isn't necessarily true for the designs of the characters and equipment. They could very well change in Halo: Reach. I mean look at Cortana's various iterations; none of the designs resemble each other in any of the shorts. And Dr. Halsey is supposed to resemble Cortana. There's no telling what she might look like in an "official" design...
