Seto Kaiba Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 The only time I've ever been banned from an internet forum was back in 2004 or so, for posting several choice remarks about Doug Bendo, who at the time was doing his damnedest to draw me into a flame war. I got a temporary ban that was lifted after only a couple of hours, and Doug Bendo got a permanent ban. (I still say that's possibly my greatest service to the Robotech fanbase) Quote
Einherjar Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) Don't remember names, what was the subject? I think it was either about why his computer games suck (Battlecruiser 3000AD, etc.) or him just starting flame wars because he wanted to. Also, if for some reason you remember someone threatening to sue you for comments made about a game, that's probably from Smart. Edited July 17, 2009 by Einherjar Quote
Gubaba Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 (I still say that's possibly my greatest service to the Robotech fanbase) Unfortunately, by freeing him from the well of Robotech.com, you let him loose on the world at large... Yes, I'm comparing Doug Bendo to Sadako... Quote

Phobos Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I was once banned from a From a Firebird site for having different political views than the majority of the site during the last U.S. Presidential election ( think of a stereotypical Firebird owner, then go 180 from that, or AKA tyranny of the majority) It really sucked cause i was in the process of doing a resto-mod to my 90 bird... bastards.... Omegablue Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Thought I was gonna get a warning after my topless image here yesterday. LOL Like many of you, only the Robotech site banned me as I too got bored one day and founded entertainment in taking on the Robotechies. Was initially warned when I opened a thread about Yamato Valks there. Their excuse, no talking about products not licensed in the US. But I was in Holland at the time... LOL Quote
taksraven Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Back in my more rebellious internet youth, I mostly posted on un-moderated sites where flame wars were epic and free as the old west. And then of course there was usenet where there was never anyone to give a f^ck. Heaven help anyone who aws naive enough to post anything even remotely fanfic like on AFM, I'd dissect that puppy & rip it to shreds sentence by sentence. Good times. And then there was my peroid of time as epic Eva guru. Yeah, the good ol' Usenet was the internet version of the Wild West. Anything went and it often did. Taksraven Quote
areaseven Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I've been banned from Robotech.com around three times. The first was because I called someone a dumbass because he suggested Macross Plus be part of the RT universe. The second time was when Toynami had the incident where their DYRL Superposeables were missing their Gun Pods. I said Toynami sucks, and that got me the boot. I don't remember what got me banned for the third time, though. Quote
VFTF1 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 On a related note - it's not the same as being banned... but have you guys ever left a website or stopped frequenting as often as you might because you figured they MIGHT ban you? I basically have stopped frequenting a whole lot of Transformers sites that I used to hang out in - largely because I have become so dissapointed in Transformers that at one point, I noticed that all my posts were critical (kind of like my posts in our MW TF thread). It was just 'this alt mode sucks," that sucks, this is terrible, G1 rulz... bla bla bla Noticing this, I have tried to really limit how much I post in TF forums and follow the rule of thumb that if I don't like something, I just shouldn't stand up in a a virtual crowd of people who love the thing saying "this sucks!" Then again, sometimes people ask questions like "what do you think of.." and get mad when you actually answer them... Pete Quote
areaseven Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I quit on all the TF forums (TFW2005, Seibertron, even the dead ones like TFans and TransFandom) and a bunch of car forums. Quote
Bowen Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Once got a 3-day ban over on the WotC D&D boards when I nuked a thread with some Tubgirl (it used to be a constructive and useful thread but turned into a flamewar). At least it got the thread closed... Quote
Wes Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Yeah, twice, from a major TF site from Illinois, and I hate that site. All stemming from one incident. I bought a single lot of Armada/Energon/Cybertron stuff from a mod there about 3-4 years ago. He claimed they were all complete, some were MISB, etc. So I pay him, and it shows up about 2 1/2 weeks later, some missing pieces, some broken, and no MISB stuff. So I emailed the guy, saying I wanted my money back, and he told me he "took the liberty" of opening the MISB stuff to save on shipping, when he overcharged me for shipping by 15 bucks anyhow. He also said that they were all "complete and unbroken" when he sent them, basically accusing me of lying and said I wasn't getting my money back. So I started blasting him in his for sale thread, and anywhere else I could. Our PM's got heated, and he used those as evidence (I'm guessing) and banned me. Sold the lot on ebay and luckily got most of my money back. So about a year goes by, I signed up with a different IP address, and was a member. 2 of the mods there knew it was me, but kept their mouths shut because they knew I got the shaft. So I post on there for maybe about 6 months, and I wrote a post that hinted at who I was by accident, and the evil mod PM'd me. So we got into it again, and I said I was going to go to a site admin. about it if he didn't leave me alone. So I get a PM from a site admin. there, saying that if I didn't drop it, I'd be banned again. I then PM'd the evil mod, saying he could ban me all he wanted and that I ought to go out to where he lived, since I had his address from the shipment I got (which was about 4 hours from me at the time), and beat the hell out of him. He said he'd love to see me try it, and banned me again. So 2 weeks later I went on a road trip with a buddy from work, went to his house, and he showed up about an hour later. I confronted him and told him who I was, and he just kept yelling "leave me alone" and trying to walk in the house, to which my friend was blocking his way. So I hit him in the face and he dropped, then I hit him a couple more times. Never even hit me back once, just screamed and yelled. I jumped in the car and left right away. Never heard anything about it again. I don't advocate fighting, I really don't, and this isn't some BS story about being a badass, it just got to the point when it was about justice. I wasn't even going to fight him, that wasn't my intent, I had my MP3 player set to record and I just wanted him to admit he wronged me. But when he started trying to run away, I just got so pissed off I snapped. Anyhow, it wasn't worth it, and I regret it. I didn't even care about that site anymore, I wasn't even into TF's really anymore. I will say however that I think that site is nothing but a bunch of favorite-playing, nasty little cliques, and suckups, IMO. I don't miss it, at all. This site totally blows it away. That's the man's way of handling it! I've been banned yes, but sadly not in anyway fun or amusing. Just for pointing out when the mods are being dicks or whatever and can't handle criticism. Sure I get banned from L4D matches all the time but that's because life isn't going my way and I take it out on other people. Quote
Roy Focker Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Here's a situation for you, With in the last week on another forum I made minor mistake. I over looked something. To me it was no big deal. Nothing worth banning but got some people upset. One resorted to calling me a name. I pointed it out without insulting them back. They responded back with another insult. My gut tells me to say "I'm sorry so, FU!" but that might cause them to say something back. Next thing we know there's a big flame war. I'll get banned. On the other hand I think another MWer is either another member or a moderator on this other board. Would it be wrong to use my influence over here to get them to give that person on the other board a light bitch slap? Honor would be restored without a huge flame war. I could also just ignore them and make my self really annoying just to piss them off some more. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Hmmn. I like the "abuse of mod-status" option, but I think I like the last option even more. Quote

If you owned up to your mistake, they called you a name, and you're reply was something like, "Hey, I said I was sorry, it was a mistake, there's no need for name-calling," and they continued to insult you, I'd take it up with a mod regardless of any cross-board influence. It's one thing to call you out on a mistake you made, but personal attacks cross the line at most of the boards I visit, especially if you've apologized. Quote
EXO Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 this is a good way of keeping an eye on the troublemakers... *takes notes* Quote
Ghost Train Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 On this other forum I go to, they setup a special section simply called, "Flame Wars," where you are quite welcome to start inflammatory threads, flame, insult, and degrade yourself all you want.... as long as it's in that section only. We should seriously have something similar here. Quote
taksraven Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 Hmmn. I like the "abuse of mod-status" option, but I think I like the last option even more. Agree. Ignoring them is a great option but it can be infuriating for both parties involved. Taksraven Quote
Greyryder Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I've not been banned from anywhere, yet. But, a few years ago some dipshit mod over at the simhq.com forums threatened to ban me. Guess that's what I get for civilly argueing against software piracy. Quote
RedWolf Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 (edited) Well I only got banned from 4chan for a month for what they consider a spoiler. I only posted it a week after the ending they still consider it a spoiler?! Anyway mods are virtually non-existent there nowadays with the spam bots getting through. I doubt they even read my pettition. Other than that never been banned. On one time in the Macross section of Animesuki I got a warning for supposedly flaming a poster. The real reason I was reported by that guy is that I was calling on him to adhere to the rules stated in the Macross technology thread that is to talk about Macross Mecha and tech. What he did was go on and on about orbital weapons as if he had something to prove. He was an egoistical douche that could not take a counter argument even if his argument was successfully refutted. I called on his behavior on derailling the thread for his own satisfaction. Others were getting frustrated in his behavior also called him on it. He threatened to report everyone who told him off. By that time already called on the mod explaining the guy's rude behavior and ignoring the rules. The mod told me and the rest to put him on the ignore list. But further reading the thread the mod asked him if he was really posting in adherence to the rules. The mod noticed he was repetitive annoying prick. Probably the part where he said Macross wasn't relevant to the thread tipped the mod off. Edited July 18, 2009 by RedWolf Quote

Vile Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 (edited) Got myself (literally) perma-banned on a Traveller RPG forum. I got so angry at certain board policies that I had to ask them to ban me permanently so I couldn't come back and get annoyed again. Edited July 18, 2009 by Vile Quote
Dante74 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Gotta love how almost everyone here, that got banned somewhere, thinks its some mod's or other member's fault but never their own. BTW: Never been banned from anywhere, but I think I was close to maybe getting a temp ban here for starting the Zardoz incident. Quote
Scream Man Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 i got banned off a Star Wars board for rigging an election to become a District rep. Which was funny coz i was away on my honeymoon the week the elections happened. this was later reversed. got banned again for daring to suggest that George Lucas hadf every right to alter his films as he saw fit, whether we like it or not. Was told that the films were "The Peoples" nowand that we should have final say, and not to be so insulting Week long suspension, but i never went back). Got banned off a film site for suggestign someone elses film was too pretentious for my liking and suggesting improvments (This was a short/amateur film site) Thats all that springs to mind, though i had a feelign i got suspended here long ago for a time. If you've been around the internet enough you find that if the "community" is really small it's just a bunch of "friends" who want everyone to agree with them, or if it's rediculously large they'll have a number of mods who like to powertrip. Good communities that have been around enough get mods who do stuff for hilarity sake, like I think it was Roy when somebody called him on a mistake he edited his post and the post of the guy that called him on it. So yeah MODS = FAGS Quote
Roy Focker Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Well I only got banned from 4chan for a month for what they consider a spoiler. Warmaker Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) The only place I've been banned was on Age of Conan's official forums. I was happy at first with that game until I peeled more layers off the onion and saw the direction of development (or lack of it). Let's just say I didn't pull back any punches with my comments there. On a Permabanned status there. Edited July 19, 2009 by Warmaker Quote

VFTF1 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Gotta love how almost everyone here, that got banned somewhere, thinks its some mod's or other member's fault but never their own. All I know is that the one forum that I am permanently banned on now has about 3 people actively on it. Down from 200+ active members when I was there. Heck - not even the Admin even posts there anymore... So not only are other people to blame, but once I'm gone, apparently the fun ends How's that for internet megalomania? Pete Quote
gerwalk25 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 RT.com for expressing an opinion on the bad qualities of Toynami's 1/55 VF-1J. And that's when I chose another forum, MW! Quote
RD Blade Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Never been banned, but got an infraction on a TF forum. I called another member a jackass. It's strange though. I get the impression that the mod agreed with me. Not only did the member get banned shortly after, but my infraction history showed up as "improper sig" rather than "insulted fellow member". Quote
