1) Change director - get rid of Bay.

2) Zoom out for the fight scenes.

3) Redesign the Transformers so they more closely resemble the G1 designs.

4) Less screen time for the humans, more screen time for the robots.

5) Redesign Optimus Prime's face under mouth-shield, so that he doesn't look like a toothless old man. Or better yet, don't have any scenes where the mouth-shield opens.

I would rather see Micheal Bay's head mounted on Dennis Leary's six foot erection (in the place of the cheeseburger, of course) instead.

You know, it was only yesterday, on that cool, breezy Sunday afternoon, as I was sitting and relaxing on the weathered gazebo in the front garden, reading a well-loved old copy of Du coté de chez Swann, that the thought wandered into my head: "What would Wanzerfan rather see?"

And now I have my answer: "Michael Bay's head mounted on Dennis Leary's six-foot erection." Learning that tidbit of knowledge has eased the furrows on my brow and cleared worry from my mind.

I feel certain I shall sleep peacefully without incident tonight.

Thank you, Wanzerfan.

It'd be nice if we could limit these threads on TF to you know...news about the movie, rumors about the movie things like that. Not random crap about crucifying Michael Bay, childhoods being raped, or any other bitching that has been posted 800 trillion times. Bay isn't going away, the designs aren't going away. Some of the writers did go away, but its the two the wrote Trek, not the one that came in and helped on TF:2. So it is what it is, you wont ever get G1 Prime walking out onto screen with this series of live action movies. You wont see them fire Michael Bay or anything like that.

The two half-way decent writers left? I didn't realize that.

Well, for what it's worth, I actually like the movie designs, I think they make more sense, and are a nice contrast to animated designs.

Bow.

One of the greatest lines in internet history.

As to the topic of discussion...

I don't know. Honestly - I haven't seen ROTF yet. I guess I'll have to catch it on DVD because I just haven't managed to get to the movie theatre to see it.

I enjoyed the first one. I have it on DVD. It's a fun movie. It does a good job of paying homage to G1 Transformers, although ultimately it'll never replace them in my heart.

I guess I just don't really care about "what happens next."

What I could really use is another season of G1 - animated in the same way, with the same voices - hell - even through in the same style of animation errors...

But I guess that's pointless.

As for Meghan Fox - she's totally not hot.

Don't see why people go ape over her. Every time I see her - on MTV, on a magazine...I'm just like...huh? Why?

Not saying she's ugly, but she just looks like a dozen other hot women you can find all over the place...in a club...on the street...

I will say this:

If, a year ago, someone had said:

ROTF is going to feature the Constructicons!

I would have been like "awesome!" And I would have expected Scrapper, with his penchant for using carcasses of Autobots to build things, Mixmaster the crazy chemist, Scavenger the emo self-doubter, Longhaul the whining proll who wants action, Hook the perfectionist, and Bonecrusher the bully to have had some great character moments and to have their idiosyncracies feature prominently in the plot in some way.

Instead, we just get more forgetable through aways.

And they look like a bunny that someone blew their nose on.

And so..it's in this vein that I don't really care what's next.

What can I say. I like "No Cure for Cancer". ;):p

I can't help it that I absolutely hate Bay.

Oh, believe me, I'm with you there. I hated the first Transformers movie with a rage worthy of Achilles, and never saw the second one, since the stuff people were complaining about most was the same stuff I hated in the first movie.

I'm not sure I've ever seen any other Michael Bay films, though...so I can't really say I hate HIM. I just hate his first Transformers movie. ^_^

Ever see "The Island"? That's one of his "gems".

Oh yeah...I did see that one. All I remember about, though, is that Scarlett Johansen was cute. And that the first half seemed like a Logan's Run ripoff.

One thing in Bay's favor, though.

At least he's not that prick Uwe Boll.

Yes

I find the Megan Fox Pout to be rather unattractive. Like she was some kind of fly catcher. And yes there are a lot of hot women out there. She has no acting talent aside from doing porn which i think she would be good at. I have noooooooo interest in the third movie. Im a very big transformer fan but i have been making a slippery slide to prefering collecting gunpla, SOC and yes even yamato since i Pre-ordered the 1/24 Blue Ingram

Transformers dont seem so exciting anymore. I will hold on to what i have but unless they bring a new season of Beast Wars or a Beast Machines with the designs that got scrapped its good bye to the franchise.

Directors I would like to see to helm the franchise...

  • Robert Rodriguez

James Cameron

John Carpenter

Hell, even Clint Eastwood would do a better job than that freaking hack. Either him or the guy who directed the Hellboy franchise.

"Even" Clint Eastwood...? I take this to mean you don't think Clint Eastwood is a good director...?

He's good, very good. But like all directors there are ones that are better and ones that are worse.

In the case of ol' Clint, there are a hell of a lot of directors much worse than him, and a few (very few) that are better than him. He's up there with Rodriguez and the others I've listed. If I made it sound that I didn't like Eastwood, I didn't mean to. That is far from the case.

Maybe I shouldve placed a sarcasm tag in my last post. ;)

I'm not sure I've ever seen any other Michael Bay films, though.

The only other Bay film I've seen is Armegeddon. I liked it for the most part - the only thing I thought was a bit over done was the pathos with the daughter saying goodbye to Bruce Willis as he blew himself up with a nuclear bomb.

....

Reads that last sentence over one more time.

Never mind! Bay's movies seem to suffer from their virtues - namely they are a major exercise in pathos. And given that all of sci-fi can be accused of being one big lump of pathos - that's a trait that sci-fi writers, directors and producers have to watch out for the most. Bay's problem is that on the one hand he strives for visual realism while giving us visualizations that have an almost zero probabaility factor of actually happening AND lacing that with bad acting and cliche characters.

Words fail me.

Words will fail Wanzerfan when I admit that the only movie-related thing I can think of when he writes "Rodriguez" is that one character who had a shrine in his bunk in Platoon. ("Quite a shrine you've got there, Rodriguez" - the lootenant says to him in that particular scene). Beyond that -I didn't even know there was a director by that name.

Clint Eastwood on the other hand is an exceptional actor and director. He would have been fantastic for a Transformers movie I think - but I doubt he would have taken it up.

The thing with Transformers is that it just got really lucky with Simon Furman and Bob Budiansky, who were foremost writers and not marketers. Michael Bay is a marketers director. He's the kind of guy who can get along with the marketing department of Hasbro I think, because he is able to take what a marketer wants and frame it in a manner that is both entertaining and jolting/enduring (in the short term)...if that paradox makes sense. Clearly the Transformers movies have succeeded in expanding the customer base for Hasbro's products, and to do that, you basically needed to dillute what Transformers were and make it big and explosive.

I'm curious Gubaba - why did you hate the first movie so much? I had a lot more tolerance for it...although seeing...well...not seeing (since I haven't seen ROTF)...where things went...maybe that tolerance was misplaced....

Wow.... there's an idea... Clint Eastwood directing Transformers.... might even be thought provoking. Might even have... character development. Might even have some actual dramatic sparks fly between Prime and Megs?

I can't say it would be the best TF movie... but he'd probably have a very interesting take.... don't talk about it anymore it's too painful.

Robert Rodriguez directed the Mariachi trilogy, Spy Kids flicks, Sin City... not a bad resume.

But up there with Clint Eastwood...?

El Mariachi was, I believe, Rodriguez's finest hour, but Million Dollar Baby and Letters from Iwo Jima blow it out of the water.

Hell, I'd even take Any Which Way but Loose over Shark Boy and Lava Girl (or whatever it was called)...

Well I'm glad he didn't get killed in the Nam and went on to make movies. But I never heard of any of those except Sin City, and that only because I saw a commercial or a trailer or something.

If Clint Eastwood (for some odd reason does) direct the next TF film, I can see Megs new tag line" Go ahead make my day!"

He'd never touch the franchise in a million years. Even if someone DID manage (by freak chance) to get a TF script to within 100 feet of him, he'd probably look at the cover page, furrow his brow, sneer, and say something like: "what kinda crazy-ass Gook sh*t is this???"

And rightfully so.

Michael Bay can't hold a candle to the guy that shampoos Clint Eastwood's crotch.
