I doubt they really care about specifics anymore, especially when they made most of everything made between 1986 to 2006 not count. It gives them the opportunity to be more ambiguous about what really happened with Robotech.

I don't blame them. The guys at HG must feel almost relieved as the SDF-2 at the bottom of the lake... With their chance to press the "reset" button and start from scratch with WB's reimagined Robotech and all.

I think the 'Supreme Commander' thing is more like a title than a rank.

Back to Robotech though: Leonard is the senior 5 Star General and he gets the title of Supreme Commander by default because he is the old man who has been

It's because on Dolza's homeworld, you give a girl a protoculture flower of life BEFORE kissing her.

Actually - now that I think of it... this is a good point. How did Robotech explain the whole culture shock thing and the whole protoculture thing if in Robotech protoculture was just this fuel?

maybe I shouldn't ask...

Pete

So in the Robotech universe you give a girl a bouquet of star-ship fuel then you kiss her?

Maybe they take the fuel douse someone in it and set them on fire. Then yelling PROTOCULTURE!! As they burn up.

That or protoculture is the power of sex.

That's Robotech for you. HG edited this stuff, but left all these now stupid looking mistakes.

"Now"? No, they were just as bad as when we were younger watching this nonsense on TV. I think that is perhaps why I only really liked MOSPEADA coming out of Robotech, it was the least mucked with and the story didn't seem like such a mess.

Forgive me if it has been discussed before, but I just saw a Robotech toy at a toystore in Japantown SF. It was called a "Stealth Veretech" and it was basically a VF-1S with Strike armor. How is this possible? HG doesn't own the rights to this design do they?

they have distribution rights of all( or most of ) Macross items outside of japan.

If I'm wrong correct me.

HG claims merchandising rights for DYRL also so they can make strike parts. Their "stealth" scheme is also unique. Pics will be up on my site later tonight.

It's also a Toynami-based design so as far as we can tell, it's legal, however much it's a rip-off the Yammie it is.

It is not at all a rip off of the Yamato... you will see.

It was the line" when i put these glasses on I'm totally different person. I'm like Clark Kent with these glasses on." or something along those lines. It had me LMAO.

But he is from the future.

Also the line: "I pull control lever 'B'"

Jenius, I can't help but wonder if you are being sarcastic...

Oh, are there any news on those "enemy mechs"? It was a plural, so I was wondering if Harmony Gold meant to release an Invid or something.

LOL AJAX COULD BEAT THE VAJRA'S LOLOL

Maybe to Doug Bendo the Vajra aren't that tough?

Tobey Maguire must be preparing himself for that "darker" Roy Fokker role:

Nope, dead serious. That paint scheme doesn't look like anything produced by Yamato. In fact, I really wish Yamato had made that the 25th anniversary paint scheme, it's way better than that retro black and gold they put out.

The toys come with all the same accessories as every other release, it would have been silly for them to remove some accessories because they never appeared in The Macross Saga. Maybe Toynami will release all non-canon schemes under the Robotech name and use the Macross name only for canon releases... it seems fitting.

Nothing will EVER beat anything that came from Southern Cross!!!

There's the possibility that this could be the only non-canon scheme they have planned. If not, what do you think they could do next? Another Jack Archer product (I know, it's technically canon)?

By the way, I finally got the connection; Rick/Jack/Jack and Hunter/Baker/Archer. Having trouble finding unique names HG?

I prefer to think that Doug Bendo is just a fool. Hell, after watching the whole series, he didn't even know they were CALLED "Vajra" until someone pointed it out to him.

OH SNAP!

Basara and the power of song got nothin' on Musica and her cosmic harp.

I think they were all proposed names for replacing the Japanese pronouncement of "Hikaru Ichijio" when the Macross Saga was edited into Robotech. I know it can't be coincidence that they are all 3 syllable names and are interchangeable when it comes to synching lip movement in dubbing.

Doesn't really matter if my name has over 3 syllables though because it only takes a Transforming Motorcyle Helmet to feel like Rick Hunter!

Um... if I remember right those missile pods do appear in some episodes of the Macross TV series. It's still a non-issue tho, as Harmony Gold does have the DYRL merchandising rights.

Maybe in episode 27 where it has the shot of the fleet lined up ready to attack, but I'm not sure. Anybody want to confirm or deny??

Edit: I was thinking it could have been seen in a shot like this one.....

When the source material doesn't have any numbers you can make up whatever you want. That Pete Walker guide did it all the time. During battles Southern Cross doesn't appear to be any more or less competent than any other 80's sci-fi show. There's not that many space battles come to think of it.

...Buck Pointer? Or Zack Fisher? Or Rock Boinker?

It's a pattern similar to making up a porno name. For the lead protagonist in past productions, use a generic Western European/American first name followed by any occupation ending in -er for the last name. If they kept the pattern going, we could have seen patterns like:

Rick...Hunter (originator)

Jack...Baker (war orphan after First Robotech War, protagonist rescued from Untold Story)

Jack...Archer (another war orphan during World War III, throwaway protagonist from Battlecry)

Jill...Carpenter

Charles...Miner

Ann...Miller

Tim...Gunner

May...Herder

Or any other variation that sounds fluid like Rick Hunter. Shadow Chronicles ended the trend with mostly generic sounding named relatives of characters not appearing in the film (depending on who you believe the main protagonist in that one is supposed to be).

I thought so too, but I looked all over Episode 27 and none of the Valkyries used missile pods, they go all out with those giant "Reactive" missiles for the climatic battle.

Um... if I remember right those missile pods do appear in some episodes of the Macross TV series.

Same here, but I haven't found a single use of the Missie pods after scanning though scenes all over SDF Macross. I think its likely we are just getting confused over the 3-missile packs that show up frequently in SDF when the Valkyries aren't firing missiles from the "hammer space" underneath their wings or launching the giant "reactive" missiles.

You have to remember Dougbendo is from the future. Maybe that was too far into the future for him.

That or he had pulled control lever "F" instead of "B".

The Ron Jeremy Veritech. Will be the next HG Toynami release/ re branding.

I seriously doubt that he watched the whole series. If he had, he'd know that Ranka was not 14, as he stated.

I suffered through about 5 minutes of his rant, but I couldn't stomach any more.

I guess what really galled me the most was his firm belief that RT:TSC is better... I litterally had to fight the urge to spit out the soda I had been drinking.

Completely unbelievable. That recording gave me a headache.

People still listen to this crap? I thought by now people know that his show is mostly for the sociopath fanboys who can't let Robotech go.

EDIT: Never mind, I forgot. These days the fandom has no alternatives except to listen to his mouth.

Nope, those missile pods are DYRL specific, much like the newer VF-1A head design. And has there been any comfirmation that HG has the DYRL merch license? Or just speculation due to their occasionally dipping their toes into it. Hell, I'd say their attept at a VF-1R was highly dubious, and borderline on crying for a lawsuit from Kawamori.

Second that. The Gianna Michaels VT is much sexier and more proportional then even the Virgin Pink Maya Veritech.

Since they have sold several DYRL? toys now ranging from superposeables to the 1/100 line without any word of them being sued by anyone and with no indication that they're going to stop we're at that point where it's safe to assume they're working legitimately. Even if they originally didn't have legal right to the merchandising rights they've reached that point where whoever did own said rights would have had to have acted to protect their license by now.

We're talking about one company that slowly churns out products compared to the dozens or so that have deals for all Macross merchandise coming out with products almost regularly (at least 3 toy and model companies). Even more so with the limited production of some toys, in this case an even more limited event exclusive item. Is it even worth going to a legal battle over stuff like this? They're going back to releasing other official Toynami DYRL toys at their own pace in the future anyway.

Dougbendo also firmly believes space helicopter>any VF from any of the Macross series.

The thing behind that is to him everything in Southern Cross (Ajax, Robotech Masters, etc.) > stuff from any other sci-fi series in existence. Material from an obscure 80's show made more relevant by someone else wins out by default, even against new stuff. This current outing just includes his passionate hatred for Macross for whatever reason, but it's typical dougbendo and someone into Robotech probably likes it.

This passionate hatred for Macross probably stems from HG favoring Macross (Veritech FTW!) and Mospeada (basis for the new continuation of the franchise) more and leaving Southern Cross/Masters Saga to gather dusts.
