Brand-X Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Well, just on a whim the other day decided to start putting this together, mostly just a fun project for me as a diversion from my usual work. Figured I'd post it up here as it goes, and see what you guys think. So without further ado, here's my first WIP shots (Please ignore the colours, they're for materials testing purposes mostly.) Aurel Tristen Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Daaaaamn, looks great to me! Very smooth and shiny. Are you planning on it being transformation ready? Quote
Brand-X Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 Yes, it will be transformation ready. And it's sitting at around 25,000 polies so far. Quote
SchizophrenicMC Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Almost too smooth... Little pet peeve of mine. Can we get some sharper corners? Quote
Fade Rathnik Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Had a feeling that you were on these boards too Brand-X. You do such good work over at HLP I am glad to see it here. Quote
Brand-X Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 Agreed on the corners issue. Also, Fade, what is your user name on HLP? And thanks for the recognition, always nice to have a fan Quote
Fade Rathnik Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I don't really post much more of a lurker there. Name is the same, I post here more often. That and I am part of the Macross Aria project. Quote
Star Dragon Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Oh wow, I hadn't realized Brand-X was the same one from HLP SW team. They are doing some great stuff there... I must have zone out for a bit. Quote

I must have zone out for a bit. Yup, it's me, the same one. I didn't expect that there'd be two others here from HLP though. Bit of a surprise, but also welcome to be noticed. Thank you guys for your praise. Quote
Brand-X Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) Bit of an update here, got the beginnings of a gunpod, upper arms, and some more detail on the upper intakes and upper legs, as well as some slight reshaping here and there: Also, back to clay renders for now, the colours were really just for testing purposes, as mentioned. Also, I'm aware of the slight smoothing problem at the back of the upper surface, and also the kneecaps are too big, already fixed Edited April 29, 2009 by Brand-X Quote
blobness Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Lol, I just went through the entirety of this thread on hard light. Someone needs to school Trashman On another note, I also think that the gunpod should be larger, as it appeared fairly imposing in all the shots I saw from the show. Quote
SchizophrenicMC Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Bit of an update here, got the beginnings of a gunpod, upper arms, and some more detail on the upper intakes and upper legs, as well as some slight reshaping here and there: Also, back to clay renders for now, the colours were really just for testing purposes, as mentioned. Also, I'm aware of the slight smoothing problem at the back of the upper surface, and also the kneecaps are too big, already fixed Gunpod is too far forward. Would be under the head unit, should the head unit be attached. Also, the upper legs appear to blend directly with the mesh of the lower legs. Are they separate pieces or are they undivided as of yet? Quote
Brand-X Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 Gunpod is too far forward. Would be under the head unit, should the head unit be attached. Also, the upper legs appear to blend directly with the mesh of the lower legs. Are they separate pieces or are they undivided as of yet? Well, the gunpod matches up with the schematics I have. As for the upper and lower legs, each are still separate objects, but I haven't modeled the intersection between them yet Quote
Wolfman Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 It's looking great to me! Keep up the great work! Quote
SchizophrenicMC Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 And another update here: Looking pretty good. The body seems a bit too rounded, still. There's a definite angle on the fuselage. It's too smooth, once more. That's, again, my only critique. It's pretty good, otherwise. Quote
Brand-X Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) I'd say a lot of that comes down to the lighting. It's pretty bright and nearly directly overhead, so seeing those angles is difficult. From other views they're fairly prominent. EDIT: An example with harsher lighting and a more angular view: Edited May 10, 2009 by Brand-X Quote
SchizophrenicMC Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 looks great to me. He's right; I can see it now. Quote
chillyche Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Sick. Hasegawa referenced? Poly modeling? Hey, Datterboy? One of the old guard. What are YOU cooking up? Quote
Brand-X Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 Actually on the note of Hasegawa references, I understand they were made using CAD techniques, and thus should perfectly line up with itself in all views. Does anyone have any high res pictures of this, as the references I'm currently using are from the Macross Mecha manual, and many do not match eachother in various views when you really get down to it. Other than that, any other high res, orthographically correct references would be appreciated if there are any floating around. Quote
peter Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Looks good, keep up the good work. If fans keep doing things like this, maybe you can all get together and put together a movie or something. Quote
chillyche Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Looks good, keep up the good work. If fans keep doing things like this, maybe you can all get together and put together a movie or something. Macross Aria, dude. Macross Aria. Quote
Star Dragon Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 (edited) Surprised I'm here? Shouldn't be. Granted I came late to the Macross side. It wasn't till I got out of the military that I even knew of the source material. My friend ran an import store and when I checked in he had DYRL on the tube and I was like "What is that!? You mean there's more then SDFM-TV?" Thus my obsession continued and I tried to get all the vids I could at the time. Edited May 29, 2009 by Star Dragon Quote
