locidm Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Thanks! I thought I saw something somewhere but couldn't remember. Actually doesn't look too bad. I may pickup some. But then I'd be suppporting Harmony Gold....... Quote
DuffCon Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Does anyone believe that the "robotech 30th anniversary" re-release of the toynami toys will actually happen? http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TOY10612&mode=retail Quote
aaajin Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) I thought I saw someone selling the new set with the new box art on ebay just a few minutes ago...lemme find the link EDITED : here ya go (not my listing) : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toynami-Macross-Robotech-1-100-Transformable-Veritech-Fighter-VF-1j-VF-1A-VF-1S-/301439071117?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item462f2b338d Edited December 21, 2014 by aaajin Quote
rasky Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 On the robotech.com website, it's listed as "expected third week of December," which is right now. I really want them too! Quote
aaajin Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I hope toynami goes full retard and release all their planned VF-1 variants and accessories (GBP esp). Quote
DuffCon Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Before the pending reboot of the hi-metal line, I was going to grab a few of these. Now I'm not so sure. Though it looks like $30 vs $90 per valk makes it tempting. Quote
anime52k8 Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I wouldn't pay $30 for one of these, I wouldn't even pay $10. Quote
jenius Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I might buy the one new one to look for differences. Quote
spanner Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I wouldn't pay $30 for one of these, I wouldn't even pay $10. agreed! I thought I saw someone selling the new set with the new box art on ebay just a few minutes ago...lemme find the link EDITED : here ya go (not my listing) : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toynami-Macross-Robotech-1-100-Transformable-Veritech-Fighter-VF-1j-VF-1A-VF-1S-/301439071117?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item462f2b338d Definitely wouldn't ever buy one myself either but I do like what they did with the "BO" letters to incorporate the 30th anniversary into "Robotech" cool! still wouldn't buy one! Quote
rasky Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Bah, I love them because I can pose them like crazy without worrying about breaking a really expensive toy! Quote
anime52k8 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Bah, I love them because I can pose them like crazy without worrying about breaking a really expensive toy! I'd rather have a 1% chance of breaking a $100 toy than a 100% chance of breaking a $10 toy. Quote
aaajin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I'd probably cave in for one if they do release the GBP. else, Ive owned one once but sold it few months down the road and prolly will do the same if I were to get one this time..price is tempting though (assuming they come with fastpacks). Quote
Hoptimus Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I had a few of the older ones and I would agree with most folks. Don't even bother. Floppy ugly mess of plastic. Quote
aaajin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) I take back what I said. seems they do not come with FP..so $30 is not worth it. I am however tempted to get a 1A-standard, which I think has the best looking head of the three head types + it comes with FP, for $35 shipped on ebay...hmmm decisions...decisions... Got a 1A max for $15 the last time...dont feel like keeping so I sold it off so others could judge for themselves. Edited December 23, 2014 by aaajin Quote
CoreyD Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I had a few of the first run. The holes that the arm pegs plug into were all cracked out of the box, so no poses would work. I hope they've fixed the durability issues, but I doubt it. Quote
jodokast Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Oh yeah, these things were just terrible. Holes for the arm and leg pegs would break. Plastic was too brittle, I had one of the heads break off from just rotating it left/right. They're definitely not worth $30 even with fast packs....maybe $15. (I'd call them Dollar Store transformers) However, even with teh crappiness, they did make some nice little custom jobs; that and they display well at the office if you don't want someone taking a $100+ toy. Quote
EXO Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Please, don't buy these... the pegs on the joints break right into the arms and legs. It's almost impossible to replace with other ball joints. AND you have to buy other ball joints! Even the little one for the stand broke. Toynami uses the cheapest plastics with the cheapest manufacturers... the fit sucks... everything is loose and floppy. I already learned from MPCs but people give me these because they don't know any better. I still have some boxed that I wouldn't sell to my worst enemies. Unless you really want them then send me a PM... lol. Quote
Boss Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Did the Glaug ever make it out? Since the last picture of it was posted in 2012, I'm assuming no Quote
EXO Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 It was 2011 when they said not to worry, that the shipment was just delayed but they were indeed sitting in a boat on a dock in China. Quote
CoreyD Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I assume that boat was the Maersk Alabama? Quote
Boss Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 It was 2011 when they said not to worry, that the shipment was just delayed but they were indeed sitting in a boat on a dock in China. That's fantastic Quote
jvmacross Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I think they are OK if you can get them for 20 bucks or so.....at least they look better than Toynami's own so-called "Masterpiece" line....with that said...I'll probably only buy the TV Max VF-1A from the current set.... Quote
CoreyD Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I thought the skull icon on the heatshield was raised on the toynami valks? Quote
jvmacross Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I thought the skull icon on the heatshield was raised on the toynami valks? Series 1 had raised skull and crossbones on the heatshield Quote
CoreyD Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 At least they fixed that. Looked atrocious. Quote
Valkyrie Magnus Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I had a bunch of these but they had a ton of problems listed by everyone here. I sold it at $10 a piece just to get rid of them. Quote
rurouni Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Haven't visited for a while but I am looking around for 1/100th scale valks for my desk. Does anyone happen to own any of the new 1/100 30th anniversary series from Toynami? Wondering if the quality has improved? (While I am not likely to fiddle around with the toy all the time, I would like to put it into several different poses from time to time) Edited January 6, 2015 by rurouni Quote
DuffCon Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 With these selling for $30; I'm wondering If the new hi-metal reboot is going to be in the same ballpark. $60-ish for a much better toy might be worthwhile, especially for 1/60 costing in the 150-200 range. Quote
CoreyD Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm definitely holding out for the Bandai version. Quote
rasky Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) I just got my set in the mail today! So far I have opened Hikaru and it's much improved. Design is exactly the same, but the plastic feels like it's of much higher quality. Everything out of the box is tight, and no cracked joints. First impressions are positive. I'll definitely be playing around with it some more, and hopefully it doesn't get loose and the joints don't break. VF-1A Max is a floppy mess from series 1. VF-1A Cannon Fodder is tighter but still needed fixing with glue. So far VF-1J Hikaru is perfect. (Sorry photos aren't great.) Edited January 29, 2015 by rasky Quote
atreyu2112 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Got the VF-1A TV Max from this series and all is well. Nice tight joints, no stress cracks. Every one I have are great, no issues. And I have all but series 1. Quote
bluecyclone Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I picked up Max and Roy's a few weeks ago and I agree, these are well made. I was a little surprised being Toynami valks but these are sturdier and transform well. Definitely going to pick up the other two. Quote
rasky Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Jenius, are you going to pick these up to review? We'd love your expert opinion! Quote
