ruskiiVFaussie
BTW, there will be sacrifices! I won't be collecting half of the v.2 1/60's for ages to save up for this baby. Just noticed all the bitching and in-fighting. Way to go guys! I plan to add in LEDS or whatever i can to make those feet boosters light up! ruskiiVFaussie
Well not going to debate economy or recession/depression since there's already is a thread devoted to that (also it could go political which is against the rules). VFTF and others are already having a lively debate going on in there. Back to the SDF 1/2000: I still love the fact that it's 2ft tall. I don't support the $500 price tag, and like everyone, would prefer it to cheaper. So far it's only a prototype and the yet to be announced gimmicks have better be significantly better then the 1/350 Space Battleship Yamato to justify the rumoured price. The Uchuu Senkan Yamato ship is MORE beloved then the Macross and it's gimmicks are awesome but it's a shelf warmer. Yamato may want to rethink their gimmicks and pricing strategy. I'm still loving the size though. I think I mentioned that. I do remember supplying that link for the 1/350 SB Yamato in one thread, and i think it's fantastic but they won't be able to give us little figures, (the valks are about the same size as the human figs! lol) but they CAN, give us Destroids, Battroids... especially the Mac II. I want a Bridge that can light up at the very least, give it a clear inside, with small panels that kinda resemble the monitors and holographic data reads, i can see it happening, i don't want to need to modify it myself But can totally see experts like PetarB and NMB4M doing so! If only we can see city detail... that would be totally awesome. I want to see the concert bowl!!! Extremely BRIGHT Light up Thrusters, Sound for the Main Cannon Charge up and FIRE complete with Capt. Global's legendary words! And Misa's voice grab from the TV series... DROOOLLSSS..... Yeah these features would totally make it worth 500, but if it just transforms... gah hard to swallow. But im still getting it. Just won't bother with Max 1S for a while, and the CF-1A (totally not getting the 1J-CF now) Prioritize! Morpheus
Yamato now needs to make some Zentraedi vessels to the same scale as the 1/2000 SDF-1 to put things over the top for Macross fans. An oversize pickles would do, they are relatively cheap and makes great exploding effect when you perform ARMD punch

UN_MARINE
i just realized this thing's gonna be the size of a cat looks like it'll have to replace the cat next year. display space problem solved! AND THEY BETTER MAKE THAT BRIDGE LIGHT UP!!!!!! hell yeah! lights & a sound chip would really sweeten the deal. but are they still open to suggestions at this point? things like... using lots of POM. who knows, they could end up using the same stuff they use on jumbo grade gundams. I was thinking 1/350 to go with my Tamiya big battleship collection. Yeah, I know....not a chance in hell. Maybe MechTech will build the rest of the SDF-1 to go with the Daedalus he's putting together. I hear he's mass-producing it as an exclusive for MW members. westfall
I actually like the wave version. This yamato version is gonna have to wait to see it pan out into a production version. Don't get me wrong, i love the little bastard. It has very nice detail and its a lot more managible than this monster will be. I keep mine in Fortress Mode, after transforming it once i felt it holds up a lot better that way. But this... this is one of those figures that, if done properly, will be a fans dream come true. I hope Yamato does this properly, it will have to be pretty solid, a lot more solid than their 1/60 Valks, if not it will break apart in the first transformation. Surface detail should be a concern, lots of small pannel lines so it gives a proper feel of scale that, with a figure this big, is important. The bigger the figure, the more detail it needs. And some lighting, as some have suggested, would be nice. Unfortunatly, all this comes at a cost. Not only will this beast be expensive but probably also heavy as hell, for a figure, that is. Shipping alone will probably cost as much as one valk. But who among us can honestly say they wouldn't love to have this thing towering over their collection, keeping guard at your house during the night while you fly a VF-25 in your sweet, mecha-porn filled dreams?... ... Huh! Sorry, wondered off there for a bit... Nah, make it in scale with myself. Wish i could see one of those in my life time. Kremmen
hahaha!! I'm gonna get this SDF-1, then a repaint TV version, and then the SDF-4 Global repaint, etc, etc... There were a couple of comments like this back a few pages which didn't really get addressed. (Or I missed the responses, sorry if so.) You *can't* repaint this as the 'real' SDF-1. It's, IMHO, an ugly, mutant design and has a differently-shaped hull and less appealing proportions. SDF-4 would be pretty much OK I guess. I'm not buying. This thing is just too small, an ideal 'big' SDF-1 would be 1/1200 scale. (1200 metres down to 1 metre - perfect.) At least this leaves the way open for a "proper" large version of the "proper" ship. </snob> Good on Yamato for having a go though. I hope it sells very well. Vostok 7
I guess it goes to show you can't please everyone. Tons of people complain that 1/2000 is too big and too expensive. Tons of people complain that 1/2000 is too small and too cheap. But here's the kicker, if Yamato made it bigger, it would be insanely expensive and probably most of the people who complained it was too small would now complain it was too big or too expensive and not buy it. On the other hand, if they made it smaller people who complained it was too big would now complain it was too small and too cheap. It must be tough being in a no-win business Vostok

Kremmen
yamato just needs to find the sweetspot If it was the TV version, I'd buy. (I'd just still pick up a larger garage kit, if one ever came out.) A lot of people are buying anyway. I guess they've found a fairly-close-to-sweet spot. Vostok 7, amen to that. I'm stunned people are complaining it's too big. It's only two feet long, for heaven's sake. It'll occupy less overall space than a PowerFX X-wing. Ack...yeah, there's that, too. I'm in Oz also. Oh well, got to keep reminding myself it's DYRL. I have to say I doubt that Yamato would be interested in doing the TV version even if this one sells very well. It's not like a Valk, where one mould will provide the basics for a bunch of variations. A TV version couldn't use even one of the DYRL moulds. Well, maybe the bridge. Hey man, stranger things have happened. A few years ago, I found myself standing on the deck of a 1/1 scale IJN Yamato in Onomich, Japan. I'd always dreamed that it would happen, but thought deep down that it would never in a million years happen. Then they decided to make a movie about it, over 60 years after the sinking. Who knows what'll happen in the next few decades. They may just decide to make a half-decent live action Macross one day, and may just have to make a partial 1/1 scale mock up of parts of the SDF-1. If you don't dream about it, it'll never happen. It takes the dreams of fans to make these sort of things happen.
MilSpex
I appreciate DnD's point of view. Sometimes it seems we buy this stuff without a second thought and when we have it we want the next one, and then the next one, and then the next one... And this does not have to to with them being expensive. Cheap or costly, we are always waiting for the next one... At first I though I would be satisfied with a good looking VF-1. Now I have a closed full of different toys and yet I want to get more. I mean WHEN is it enough? What would "complete" ones Macross/whatever collection? This is a good/interesting question. I`ve just started my Yamato collection and I`ve limited myself to 1/60 DYRL? for the time being. I think the key is dividing your collection into smaller completion goals. Then I can be satisfied sooner when I have all in that mini set. And then I can move onto the next set. I haven`t decided what that would be yet but probably 1/60 TV. Vostok 7
yamato just needs to find the sweetspot That's why I'm saying that I wouldn't be surprised if this shrunk to 1/2500 by the time this is all said and done. Twice the size of the WAVE would make it plenty big for detail, but not ridiculously so. At that scale it would be close to the size of the bigger 1/60 valks or the 1/48s. Just bigger enough to be imposing to display, without being 1/2000 imposing. Vostok

Kremmen
Yes!!!! Urm, guys, guess I haven't made the point clearly enough have I? You can't DO a TV add-on pack. The ship has a different front hull, different middle hull, different engines and different shoulders. It would have to be a whole new mould. Can you see Yamato releasing *two entirely different 1/2000 Macross pieces*? No, neither can I... Sorry to belabour the point!

Can you see Yamato releasing *two entirely different 1/2000 Macross pieces*? No, neither can I... Sorry to belabour the point! I think a TV add-on pack is possible if you look at it this way: I think most people that want a TV version of the SDF-1 want the design quality and intricate detail of the DYRL design, wich, lets face it, is totally laking in the TV design wich was, IMHO, too plain and simplistic. But instead of the ARMD's for the "arms" they want the Prometheus and Deadalus. With this aproach, Yamato can simply produce the Prometheus and Deadalus with a DYRL redesign, wich in the Prometheus case was already done (I love the scene where they find its rusting hull, its look hit me like a ton of briks). It would be a simple case of switching arms. For that matter, the toy could already come with both sets (Yeah, i know, wishful thinking) I speak only for myself in regards to the TV design, don't get me wrong, i love the ship, but its too plain for a figure this big and pricey, it would end up looking like the old toy that was about the same size. I would not buy that. (Sorry for the blasphemy) The DYRL design style, filled with panel lines and detail, gives it mass and more depth (and if you really want to go overboard, use the Macross Plus design, wich is even more detailed) Everyone has his taste and many want a faithful replica of the TV version. But to make a faithfull replica of the TV design, as its been said, Yamato would have to make a totaly new mold for that, too many details are diferent. I think making replacement arms with the DYRL design is a good compromise. But thats just me...
UN_MARINE
DYRL-style swappable Prometheus & Daedalus would actually be cool. it would give us a compromise or the TV version, and a couple of ships to park beside the thing. whether or not people choose to display it in DYRL or TV mode. think of the semi-limited possibilities! -parked DYRL Macross w/ Deadalus & Prometheus parked along the shoreline -TV Macross w/ ARMD1 & 2 as escorts oh well, we can only dream. That seems to be a widespread opinion, but it's not actually correct. Pull out your copies of Perfect Memory and the gold DYRL book, open them both to the SDF-1 pages and you'll see what I mean; there's absolutely no shortage of intricate detail and design on the TV version. Sure, in the animation you often don't see it, but it's designed, it's canonical and there's plenty of detail for a model. It's not the surface that's lacking - it's just that the DYRL version has a lot of extra lumps and bulges, sharper edges and harder angles. To me, it's basically like taking your Porsche 911 and whacking a really bulky body kit on it. But as you say, to each their own. with a DYRL redesign, wich in the Prometheus case was already done (I love the scene where they find its rusting hull, its look hit me like a ton of briks). It would be a simple case of switching arms. For that matter, the toy could already come with both sets (Yeah, i know, wishful thinking) Yeah, probably. I really don't think a hybrid version would go down too well with the licensor, for that matter. That Prometheus scene was great.
