The original Toynami press release on MPC Cyclones (way back before the announcement of a partnership with Beagle) did specify they'd making Shadow Chronicles variants. At the time, that meant they were going to make Vince Grant's bike which is a slighty toned down version of an original Mospeada design.

That's the Super Cyclone and Devastator that I mentioned above (though it wasn't called Devastator in the original MOSPEADA designs, I'm sure).

Thanks guys for the info on Invid/Inbit crabs...I will keep an eye on them.

I am a lousy modeller and don't own an airbrush so customization is out of the question, the only 2 models I've built in the recent years was 1 Zaku II V2.0 that was basically snap fit (some sanding and transfer decal) and the VF-25F that came out pretty nice but after some handling I am afraid is coming down to pieces soon.

I need a toy, and I know my wallet and wife will hate me, coz after the Grab will come the Blowsperior. If Beagle made a Fuke/Houquet red ride armor, I am probably going to have to rob a bank to get it under current financial circumstances.

Here's that CMs Wolf set on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/cms-Mospeada-Riding-Su...A1%7C240%3A1318

CMs is totally missing the boat here. Pardon the RT names for a second (I always screw the inbit up otherwise) but they should have released a 1/18 Invid Scout (with attachable guns) packaged with a couple 1/48 Scouts.

I have no idea what i'm going to do with a Wolf figure and a random greeny... There should have at least been something exciting sold with them.

Got my red beta from BBTS today. Putting my red alpha on it, the alpha's arm fell off. Niiiiiiice...

Also got my Toynami/Beagle from Robotech.com. Love the interpretation, enough articulation to pull off some cool poses. Leaving it in bike mode for now. Sorta fragile, but to be expected with this many small pieces put together. I really like the stand too.

My post fro m the other day got buried when the page count ticked over.

Is Stick's name proven to be his birth name?

Could STICK be a call sign or nick-name?

I had the same thing happen to my 6Z. It sad untouched in a display case for a year and then I picked it up (in fighter mode the whole time) and an arm fell off. Weak. I guess you'll have your Alpha permanently in fighter mode now.

Where the Aoshima Legioss priced lower than the MPC Alphas? I'm saying this because I don't know if it would be better to wait for a Aoshima Tread.

Also: has anybody tried to link a CM Legioss to the MP Beta?

There were several pictures of this in the previous thread. You can make it LOOK like they're linked up, but they don't really link up.

As for the Aoshima Alphas, I've usually seen them for the same price as Toynami, or even $10 or $20 more (I think because of lower production numbers).

I think we're at the point where any and all of that is down to personal preference.

It looks like the Beta was named, by the creators, as the TLEAD, so this is probably the real name. However, I still prefer the name TREAD.

I prefer Ray to Lei.

As for Scott, Stick as a nickname sounds better to me, but Stig as a Nordic name makes some level of sense too, but I don't know if their is any merit to this, or if this is a coincidence and something that ADV made up.

Perhaps if the blind-boxed DORVACK PVC powered armors they're selling this spring (like the pair included with their Brave Ghokin Mugen Calibur) do well, they'll expand into PVC items and offer Inbits/Invid.

I think they would lend themselves well to PVC treatment with basic articulation.

Wrong. They do link up, as they are essentially the same design (except for the addition of a few ratchet joints, the extra missile launcher thingy, and the extra missiles under the chest intakes).

The problem is that the lighter blue Aoshima Legioss won't match up colorwise with the slightly darker blue Toynami Beta.

Jenius has a pic of the two linked up at his review site.

EDIT: Sorry, thought the original poster was asking about the Aoshima and Toynami connecting, not the CM's and the Toynami.

Still half asleep here.

Humm..i don't want to annoy but Tlead is the real name....proved by pic...isn't it?

I'm just going to keep denying it and refusing to look at the dozens of pics proving it IS indeed a TLEAD... sooner or later, someone will find that one magic pic that calls it a TREAD first... just have to keep waiting... keep denying...

Kinda, except "Tlead" doesn't really work in English and the l/r is always a tricky romanization issue. Maybe that's how the creator thought it'd be Romanized but the creator wasn't necessarily an English or Romanization expert. So, I'd still say there's some fudge room to believe it's a Tread... after all, it became a Dread according to that modernized line art.

I know I asked this in the previous thread, but can't remember what the reply was, and am having trouble finding it now.

What was that page taken from?

I LOVE these designs!

Well, ok...

Tlead pic shown before is issued for original official production lineart, official lineart used for anime production and after for artbooks, illustrations and co (Entertainment Bibles, Artmic Design Work, several old japanese mags and many others...).

Also, this is a a part of this page with famous kanji translated by Save (thanks to him):

We can see the kanji who says: "Finalized

Kettei kou"

So, it's written officially....

I don't want to insiste...it's just a precision.

I'm just going to keep denying it and refusing to look at the dozens of pics proving it IS indeed a TLEAD... sooner or later, someone will find that one magic pic that calls it a TREAD first... just have to keep waiting... keep denying...

Why not...

Maybe...but they write it like this....maybe they've done an error when they put it in english...but there is a fact...

But i don't think it's an error or romanization translation problem...Roger (and papers found few years ago in japan) said he found explanation of TLEAD :Transport Legioss Escort Armored Dreadnought ( Super7 mag.#15).

About Dread, i just say they can revisite the anime ( story, design, name...)notice the word Dread...(reduction of Dreadnought?)...but original serie will keep this name...sorry (ok i think i've insisted enough...).

The final word will come from creators...if someone would ask them?

akim.

PS: About your Dread pics, Ravenhawk, it's from Hobby Japan 06/2007.

Cool, thanks. I'll have to see if I can find it on eBay or anything.

I wonder if TLEAD, MOSPEADA and the rest of the show's wacky naming style comes from the period fascination with things like the AWACS back in the early 80s.

Remember those?

Episode 20 was a standout for me too. The man betrayed by his friends with the kick-butt missile sidecar.

That would sure come in handy in traffic jams.

He seeks revenge only when its raining.

Does anyone have a good source to order the new Mospeada Book? I saw one link but it was all in Japanese.

I'm getting mine through Overdrive, there is no pre-order yet, so you need to e-mail them.

I asked why wasn't there a pe-order, as in the last thread when the book was announced, damn i thought everyone was wantin to get it, myself included.

NOT going to miss out on this book. Really hope the 2nd book comes out though. :(

I'm definitely getting it, through prefer a US site if at all possible.

Ginrai said that the acronymns in Mospeada were actually "backronymns" meaning that random letters were applied to mechs and then given a meaning later (I'm gussing the actuall MOSPEADA had to be different since it's in the name of the show). Maybe he can quote his source and help us with the TLEAD/TREAD debate.

That would make more sense than the acronyms do!

I don't know whether the acronym was applied before or afterwards (I think it was on some model/toy boxes), but I'm told "mospeed" is a Japanese slang word for racing through traffic. There are also some sketches of the bikes that identify them as "moto speeders." It wouldn't be a Japanese show without some double entendres.

Speculation: Toynami is apparently releasing a 9" vinyl Golion/Lion Force Voltron. I'm hoping they'll expand their vinyl offerings to Inbit/Invid...

While I'd rather have a vinyl Inbit than no Inbit at all, I still prefer toys with actual movable parts and joints rather than vinyl.

Posted

Oh, you can still get some decent articulation out of vinyl. It just depends on how ambitious the designer is.

But, I think typical sofubi articulation would serve most Invid designs.

Posted

Some of the Evangelion vinyl angels seems pretty good (if a little stiff).

The cheaper they are, the easier it'll be to buy a few for the purposes of "army building".

I'd pick up two or three to do that. Articulation wouldn't even be a concern for me.

Posted

Would there be any way to take a beat up Legioss or TLEAD and make them into an Inbit, while maintaining the joints? Or would trying to mold on new shells to that skeleton just be way too much work?

Posted

Yeah. Just coz they are related to the show it doesn't mean they'd be good bases.

There are probably a dozen other, reasonably priced, toys in Toys'r'us that would do.
