anime52k8 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Oh come on, you know the story can be fleshed out differently, but even if it's like that, Cr*ssb*ne G*nd*m is awesome so why not? You know you'd like to see Valk in cool pirate getup. actually I would. but not as much as I want to see Valks that look like medieval knights. those would be so cool. Quote
sucker4meltrans Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 do we really need something as silly as Mac7 again? Quote
Gubaba Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 do we really need something as silly as Mac7 again? Yes. Yes, we do. Quote
Killer Robot Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 do we really need something as silly as Mac7 again? I want something with more character development and better pacing than Mac7, and less of the hero mech focus, but silly? Silly's what kept me watching anyway. Bring it on! Not that I hate serious, but not everything has to be totally so. Quote
Macross007 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Mac plus and zero had great dog fights and mecha porn. frontier had great mecha porn but i think its dog fights suffered from some gundamitist (too many screaming teenagers). Alto THE CRYING MAN !!! i think macross can manage lesbian love with out the giggle factor or the dread R word. Your love for lesbians is quite admirable I must say. Quote
REbirth Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Macross TV is always silly. If you want something remotely "serious", watch the Macross OVAs, but come on, I don't think even Macross Zero was "serious". Quote

REbirth Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 No, it was "dark". "Dark" as in "grimdark" ala people die/killed brutally, angsty and stuff? Well, that happens a lot in other Macross, it usually doesn't happen to the main cast though. Quote
anime52k8 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 do we really need something as silly as Mac7 again? I don't see how anything suggested so far would be as silly as Macross 7, (well, excluding lesbian Harem themes ) Quote

Compare it to all of the other Macross series, and it comes up short on the "despite going to hell and back, we're going out on a positive note" ending. I dunno... maybe that was the point? <shrugs and wonders off> Quote
shiroikaze Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) actually I would. but not as much as I want to see Valks that look like medieval knights. those would be so cool. First thing that came to mind was Escaflowne... oh man did I love that series... Ah, the infamous Kannazuki no Miki with the Flute Rape'd scene (and later meme) lol Wait, I don't remember that! RedWolf Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 Wait, I don't remember that! That happened in the manga. Quote

Morpheus Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 anime52k8 Do you know that Escaflowne was once name "Air Cavalry Chronicle" with WW2-esque variable fighter/bomber for Fanelia Kingdom? The concept of the variable fighter can be seen in Kawamori Design Book. If any of you want a "Dark" Macross series, we can make a petition for Tomino or Hideaki Anno to direct the new Macross series. Hmm, Anno mind-screw techinque combined with Tomino kill-em-all tragedy........in the Macross Universe where love and music always prevail....... Quote

The concept of the variable fighter can be seen in Kawamori Design Book. well, Air Cavalry Chronicle kind of evolved into Escaflowne. it's not like they just changed some names and changed the designs from being Valk like to being whatever you would call the final designs. (so basically yeah, I new about that) Quote
shiroikaze Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) That happened in the manga. Ah, I see. I'll look into that someday... I'm completely scared and yet really want to know what he's talking about. This is probably an interesting way to do it... Take these two characters and let your imagination run. Now. sucker4meltrans Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 you know i don't think its really been covered in macross how religion recovered after space war 1. Macross needs more Miko Quote

Zentrandude Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 maybe from a more small corporation/cowboy bebop viewpoint with a common ship (non transforming) where an former anti-un solider goes to planet to planet trying to survive while avoiding the UN and maybe a few potshots into them too.... aka firefly. (the Angel Birds paint scheme is meant to look like a school girls uniform in battroid mode) but I'd like to see valks like the LV-7 and the SeiRan-99 actually worked into macross. Quote

magnuskn Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I´d be completely happy to stay with the same characters on new adventures... for my taste they haven´t been played out yet and need more exposure. Quote
RedWolf Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 The designs look great, but the inclusion of gigantic swords just doesn't seem Macrossy to me. They don't need swords. Those designs are just waiting to be tweaked for the next Macross series by SK. Like so... Air Cavalry Chronicles Fz-109A ErgaZorn Macross 7 Fz-109A Elgerzorene Quote
Kelsain Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) Looking at them recently, I think the Seiran-99 actually has a lot in common with the VF-25. Not everything, mind you, but definite similarities in the torso and shoulders. It may have, at least, inspired the transformation sequence. Edited February 23, 2009 by Kelsain Quote
edwin3060 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 True! Maybe SK should make use of older designs like the VF-4, VF-9 etc that have been seen more in the games as well. It would certainly give us a better chance of seeing them made as toys! Quote
SchizophrenicMC Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Hmm, pirate, knight, what's left? Samurai Valk? lol Well, Kawamori designed a Schoolgirl Valk (The Ladybird) before so all these ideas are possible in context. Schoolgirl Valk = Japanese piloting Angel Birds = fetishy Samurai Valk? Perhaps the YF-19? It kinda had a Samurai effect on me. Mind you the VF-19 didn't. I don't much know why. It was probably the karaoke ninja context... Quote
anime52k8 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 The designs look great, but the inclusion of gigantic swords just doesn't seem Macrossy to me. The VF-25 stabbed a space lobster with a giant Ka-Bar. swords aren't that much of a leap. Quote

Yea but I didn't really like that either--- the first time it happened inside City Frontier looked alot like a homage the Evangelion, and other than that it was only the plot point of normal warheads not working (which in itself requires a leap of imagination) that kept it barely acceptable. REbirth Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 IMO, the Knife is a nice equipment, Ozma used his to kill his first Vajra in the show, and later many more. After all, Valk gotta have something to defend themselves in melee combat, aside from good ol PPB Punch anyway. But sword/beam saber will just break the point. Quote
Morpheus Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I don't think sword based melee weapon will be introduced in Macross, however we do have a plasma spear in Metal Siren. Variable fighter, IMO, is not a close-combat-mecha, it relies on speed and maneuverability. Sometimes we do have melee combat such as YF-19 vs YF-21 and the VF-25 vs Lobster knife fight is shown just to tell the audience that the lobster is nearly immune to gunpod/missile but not immortal as a knife could take it out. BTW, SMS Macross Quarter does have a PPB-Sword on the tip of its Macross Cannon when they sliced Battle Galaxy in epi.25 Quote
