Hey all,

I think I am finally going to pull the trigger and get the Macross Perfect Memory book after staring at pictures of it on the internet all these years.  I have some of the other design books and some of the "This is Animation" books, but outside of the Gold Book, this is THE book. and the definitive book on the original series.

Were/are there bootlegs?  How do I know if its a first printing?  Is there anything I should lookout for?  I know it came with a poster.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

old ref but here you go

https://www.macrossworld.com/macross/books/series_pm.htm

The prices on the legacy site are very very very old and not to be used anymore-this book could be had now for about $40-$50

There was a bootleg in the early 2000s-I think something about the color on the cover-it if was shiny or matte or gray or something was the key

But even if you get the bootleg, it was excellent quality I thought, so you wouldn't go wrong either way. Again they made a million of the things, it is not considered a rare collectors item anymore with the rise of the internet. So find one and just enjoy it! :)

examples of some recently sold on Yahoo Japan Auctions

Thanks for the info!  🙂

jvmacross, so there 2 different sizes of the book?

Just one size....the "shorter" version is part of a BD set and would be difficult to acquire on its own...

I went ahead and bought a copy.  I spent a little more than I wanted, but the seller told me he has kept it in NEW condition since he bought it in the early 80s.   Now I can't wait to finally have this.  I'll post some pictures when I get it.  🙂

A few years ago there was a Hideaki Anno Exhibition, and there was an art book release.
Finally found one for a good price, so picked it up
Has some great pictures throughout his history, included 3 pages of Macross stuff. If you like this art, and who wouldn't, its great. Also-it is THICK.

I would probably say yes, since we see the Yamato being blown up at the bottom of that rough sketch, and that was from Daicon 3 which he animated.
