Just the latest "Who's who and what's what in the World of Macross" book.....nothing that hasn't been published before.  Basically. just the kind of quick summary of every Macross animated series through the latest Delta movie.  About what you'd expect to find in a sub-100 page book covering 40 years of Macross.  Nice book to have if you wanted the latest in a long line of similar books, but not a must-have.  I did like how they arranged the major characters from each show, but other than that, pretty standard stuff and pics.  I am sure the interviews are interesting, but have not had a chance to Google translate through them.

I just got my copy. Haven't looked through it yet but it seems like a good addition since I only have the first edition of Macross Chronicle

Yeah, it's a good general overview of Macross as it currently stands.  It's more broad than deep, as it touches on a lot of different topics but doesn't get heavily involved in any of them.

The sections about the setting and stories are mostly the old familiar tune, though it does have a few minor points of interest.  It doesn't draw a distinction between the Protoculture's different backstories from the TV series vs. Movie.  There's also mention in the Macross Frontier section that the massive suborbital ring and Vajra nest over the surface of the Vajra's planet is actually composed of native plant life affected by fold quartz, which is a detail I don't recall ever hearing before.

Did I not post enough pictures for you Noel? ;)

So, to MW members, mods, etc., I'd like to know if it's ok to post practically every picture from a newly released book again?  And yes, linking or redirects to the pics on another site is the same as posting the pics yourself. Just want to make sure....I recall doing so used to elicit complaints in the past so I stopped doing so out of courtesy to the differing thoughts on this subject...if it is not a problem anymore I will gladly post more pics from future releases as a "service" to MW....no need to have to go to Facebook to keep from paying for a book....

I didn't know it was an issue. I just shared what was put out there in the wild. I also don't think what was posted above is the whole book. If it's an issue, I'll just delete it. Please edit your quote post so it will not have the images there too. Thank you.

Edit: Original post above deleted.

I'd still like to know what the general consensus is on this....or at minimum how the mods feel...I do not think there is any specific MW rule, it was just an "unwritten" understanding I suppose....as I said, there was a time when it was frowned upon to post "too many" pics from a new release, but perhaps times have changed...

The general unwritten rule is to tease an available magazine or book or whatever, something what a reviewer would do under a fair-use type thing
Enough to tease some good stuff to encourage sales or gain interest for the item. Definitely not full scans of the item, and yes there will always be 'what about' exceptions....e.g. the old Imai booklets or something odd like that.

Even in the old days when I did the magazine scans for the legacy site, I tried to balance what to show from articles from 1983. It seems silly I know, but it seemed like a good policy at the time. At least it let me sleep at night.
So just use common sense and imagine it was your intellectual property being shown as your internal limiter on the previews. Easy enough! :)

Chiming in on the general consensus:

What Shawn said.

I'd also like to add a bit on the "why" side: to get more things printed.  If publishers are continually getting ripped off, they're not going to publish as much, and we all lose out.  As there are less and less Macross books being published, I think this unwritten rule is even more vital then say 10 or even 5 years ago, when we were getting a glut of Macross F related publications.

This issue is also one of the reasons why on my Macross translation's website I have the line: '(We) strongly encourage readers to purchase a legitimate copy (...)'.

I mostly agree....I don't think we are in some dryspell...quite the opposite....however, when it comes to Macross books...I think there is pretty much a group of consumers that will either buy all, some, or none consistently that has not changed for a long while....who knows though, the rules have changed a bit in terms of Macross' awareness to a larger audience....but I kind of doubt the disposable income for books amongst Macross collectors will change much in either direction...

While I agree that there is a subset of the fandom that'll can be counted upon to consistently buy any new book/mook/magazine/etc. that comes out, I do think we're in something of a publishing dry spell right now.  Not for lack of publishers interested in the property or lack of an audience... but for lack of anything new to write about.  The Macross Delta TV series and its two movies are such painfully threadbare stories that they didn't leave the publishers much to work with.  It ticked the obligatory licensing checkboxes of a light novel version and a few short manga titles, but it doesn't seem to have achieved the level of interest that earned its predecessor an ONA, 14 short stories, a spinoff light novel series, four drama CDs, multiple video games, a TCG, and all the accompanying coverage.  There's only so much publishers can do to milk something worth writing about out of shows from 10+ years ago.

What little we've gotten from the latest series has not been very substantial either.

Yeah...it would not bother me if they decided never to print another MacF or Delta book....just keep making those SDFM and DYRL rehash books....lol

It would be nice if Macross Chronicle was picked up by another publisher and re-re-released with additional Delta content.  But—given a multitude of reasons—that's a pipe dream at best.

I got a Macross #1 Japanese Comic in the mail Friday.  it was signed by Minmay & just $20. It's small looking not the size of western comics. not sure who made it? not sure if they make holders for them? its on OK condition 5.0 out of 10 scale, it looks like a book.

Nice autographed find! Do you know when she signed it?
Now you just need to find the other 6 volumes to have the entire set if you ever wanted to complete it.

Thanks! did not know it was part of a mini series and it would be a challenge to find the others:). not sure when she signed it but I might just join her fan club soon then have her sign a mint copy of it.   at least with this one I wont feel too guilty looking through it.

My 31AX Master File book has been shipped via something called ECMS from Amazon Japan.  Anybody have a clue what that is?  Reviews online make it sound like I'm going to be waiting months.

ECMS Express.  The most recent book I ordered from Amazon JP was shipped with that service and it didn't take long for it to arrive.
