jvmacross Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Looks like the Macross Mikimoto book release date has been rescheduled to 3/29 - 4/01 2019.... Quote
sh9000 Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Got the email about it earlier today. The book will probably be worth the wait. Quote
jvmacross Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 (edited) Yep.....has the character designer been announced for the new upcoming Macross TV series? What if it's Mikimoto and they wanted to include art from the show into the new book? Probably not, but would be cool to have him back on a new Macross tv production at some point. Fortress_Maximus Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 @jvmacross For the newest book how many pages are dedicated to Gunbuster? You posted the hanken genga for Noriko which was very nice. Do you mind posting some more pics of GB too? Want to see if anything new or just old material. Thanks! Quote
jvmacross Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Off memory I do recognize a few....Not a fan myself so I don't follow it enough to know if most of the illustrations have been published elsewhere.....I will take pics of the Gunbuster content later this evening and post it up for you Quote

I'd love to but unfortunately my budget right now is focused on the toys and graphic novels and home repairs. Maybe I'll just get this one together with the new Mikimoto book that comes out next year. Thanks for the pics! Quote
jvmacross Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 (edited) No worries.....if the decision is between books or the toys....get the toys first because those tend to go up in price later....most books will not Edited July 27, 2018 by jvmacross Quote
sh9000 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 @jvmacross Are you getting the Music of Macross book? I saw a preview of it and decided not to get it. Quote

jvmacross Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Great cover.....that VF-1J should have been the boxart on the upcoming DX! Will PO mook, although most mooks like this usually end up being sort of light on Macross content....the cover alone is worth the price though. Quote
jvmacross Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Golly....that was quick! Hope Amazon will deliver my DX -1J just as quick! Quote
zard Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Wow! That is a fantastic cover! Hope they turn it into a poster. Would be nice if they also created one for Roy too. Quote
sh9000 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 That’s cool @jvmacross. I still need to order my copy. I’m debating whether to get it from Amazon or HLJ. Quote

sh9000 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I might have to get the Macross Modeling book too. Quote
ScrambledValkyrie Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 You know, it's times like this when I wish I knew how to read Japanese. I'm guessing many of you guys just get these for the artwork? Quote
jvmacross Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 Well.....most of the better ones happen to be primarily artbooks... But if there is something you want to get a general idea of what is being said....Google Translate is handy....for an interview like the one in the Mechanics G mook....it'll be a challenge Quote

I'm guessing many of you guys just get these for the artwork? Most folks, yeah. I'm kind of weird in that I specifically got into collecting them with research as a goal (to fix the many errors in the old Macross II RPG). There's just too much coming too fast for fan translators to reasonably stay on top of things, so the percentage of material made accessible to western fans is presently quite low. (On a lark I got a price quote on what it'd take to get something like Variable Fighter Master File volumes professionally translated and it came out to a bit under $25k per book.) jvmacross Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 25k? Yeah...nothing in these books is worth that kind of money....as I said, most of the better releases are primarily artbooks....so not being able to read the Japanese within them shouldn't preclude anyone from owning them Quote

Individually, yeah... the only way to make that tenable would be for a professional distributor to do a translation with intent to sell, or to crowdfund it. Since neither option is likely to pan out in the near future, I'm just gonna keep slowly plodding away at 'em. 53 minutes ago, jvmacross said: as I said, most of the better releases are primarily artbooks....so not being able to read the Japanese within them shouldn't preclude anyone from owning them True, though since those often include staff/cast interviews, production info, and other goodies on top of the art, being able to read them definitely adds value.
