Wow...I'm surprised no one's talked about this. The third installment of the Underworld series premiered on January 23. It features Rhona Mitra (Eden in Doomsday) as Sonja. Reprising their roles are Michael Sheen (David Frost in Frost/Nixon) as Lucian, Bill Nighy (Davy Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean series) as Viktor, Steven Mackintosh as Andreas, and Kevin Grevioux as Raze. Kate Beckinsale will not return in this film, despite supplying some monologues during the intro.

So for those who've seen this film, is it worth the ticket? Or is it just rental material?

Michael Sheen & Bill Nighy are awesome, bringing emotion to their characters which is marred by stifling dialogue. Overall, it kinda like Braveheart, with the Scottish skirty-men replaced with werewolves (err Lycans) & the haughty English as the vampies.

No gunfest here, just straight up sword & arrow slaughterfest. Gore & blood definitely. Storyline, mehhh, but proved to be satisfying enuff detailing the earliest long running Lycan-Death Dealer wars that briefly hinted in the early two movies.

A popcorn movie, so left your brain out before entering the theatre. Better yet, remember when your wife / girlfriend drag you screaming to watch the lame romantic vamp movie, "Twilight", its time to get a sweet revenge by bringing 'em to the Underworld screening .... there's romance with doomed Romeo Juliet thingie tragic there, with more gore, blood, action, hair, & fangs ....

Did I just say ... more hair ...

I would like to see it. Even without Beckinsale and Speedman, we are left with brilliant actors like Nighy, who can do wonders with crappy scripts, so it should be OK at least.

I think that most of the story has been told in the two previous films though.....

(I think that the Beckinsale dialogue was supposed to be taken from one of the other films, its not supposed to be new)

( I was out getting a pizza last night and I saw on the side of a small corner shop a huge poster the same as the one as the first post in this thread of Bill Nighy, and I thought, "Thats really cool", a British actor like him in that sort of context)

Surprised this didn't get a mention here before this as well....

I think the first film is being released here in Poland now. I had no clue this existed - but suddenly when I saw the sub-heading, that it was hald Rise of the Lolicons (or whatever) then I recalled seeing a Rise of the Lolicons poster in the metro a while back - something about all wars having their beginning - so I gather it was the first thing.. although...it was called Rebellion of the Lolicons - which is like Rise... so maybe it is Rise? Who knows. I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I guess this film isn't as obscure as I thought

Rise of the Lycans, the film being released now, is a prequel. So *technically* it is the first, but it was not the first made, it was the third.

Posted this originally in the BSG thread, but it pretty much sums up why I won't be paying to watch Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (aka "We can be slaves, or WE CAN BE.......LYCANS!!!!!!!111!!!!!").

So, after watching each webisode and their related commentaries, I think it's safe to say that any shred of interest I may have had in Underworld 3 has been crushed by having to sit through that bloody trailer each and every frakkin' time!!!

Who's bright idea was it to have that trailer pop up every single time (without fail) when we decide to click a webisode link? Yeah, yeah, advertising and such. But is pissing off your target audience the best way to generate interest in your film? There's no chance it would cause a backlash and blow up in the marketers' faces, would it?

Heck, why not add a Quizno's survey at the end of each webisode too for good measure?

I'LL KILL YOU!!! ALL OF YOU!!!!!! (Well at least Sci-Fi's or BSG's marketing folks :p ).

It might be a good fluff/popcorn movie, but a man can only take so much of one crappy trailer.

Watched it without prior knowledge to the 1s 2 series....since i heard it wasn't that great when they were released. Part 3 was pretty ok actually.

Its very Romeo & Juliet story and alot of getting in and out of the castle but otherwise pretty cool.

I find this movie series entertaining enough, but for me the main problem is the way it interprets vampires. (The best example for me is in the first movie when one of the major plot points involves a vampire staring at their own reflection.)

For me, the best vampire story in the last decade or so has to be the BBC series Ultraviolet, from 1998.

Its great stuff, very scientific, check it out if you get the chance.

Wait - it has vampires in it?

My girlfriend recently got into vampire novels and wants to take me to a vampire movie - but she says it's a comedy about vampires who only suck animal blood vs. vampires who suck human blood. Maybe I should take her to see return of the Lolicons - if it's got vampires that is.

Do the vampires play a big role in this movie?

seen it, it was good but I think the best in the last decade has to be Night watch

as for underworld; there ok as far as violent action movies go (I love any movie that involves decapitation and blatant gun porn) but nothing special. I miss the old vampire movies of the 50's and 60's though, before Anne rice came along and ruined everything, those were by far the best (indicates avatar as proof).

Forgot about nightwatch & daywatch & whatever the name of the last one will be. Yes, a very good series, some fantastic ideas and generally done on a minor budget, but I still prefer the scientific nature of Ultraviolet. Each to their own, I guess.

I actually thought Daywatch was really disappointing. Felt like they rushed two sequels into one movie.

I haven't read the books yet, so maybe that's the way the second book played out as well.

After hearing that ooo...X-number of times watching the BSG webisodes...Yeh, that line is permanently craved into my brain. I watched the first one, skipped the 2nd one, and have no intention to even rent/download the DVD when it gets to that point. You can that the promo that showed up before the BSG webisodes for that.
