reddsun1 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I've always been partial to metallic greens...way to go, GM! Although I am a little disgruntled at the V6 only/non-RS thing Meh, I'm just not feeling that boy-racer tack-on on the rear decklid. LOL, is that molded plastic, or wood? It only draws attention to itself in that it looks so un-like a real spoiler; appears to have the profile of an inverted doorstop rather than an aerofoil. Form should follow function, I say. If it doesn't actually reduce drag or add downforce, just leave it alone. But yes, that shade is pretty eye-catching...
ambient73 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Yeah, I could definitely do without the tacky add-ons I understand that they will be a dealer added option(for the goofballs), thank god. It's the color that has me salivating! The rumours are that it will be a limited, extra cost color and probably be rolled out late summer/early fall 2010. I hope it does well, so GM will see fit to come up with some more interesting non-basic colors.

Beltane70 Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Another one bites the dust... R.I.P. Saab I guess Saab wasn't as big a car company that I thought it was!
David Hingtgen Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Maybe old news to some people but: http://www.compnine.com/vid.php VIN database, that can compare everything and see how many cars were built EXACTLY like yours, based on paint color, interior color, options, etc. My current car is 1 of 2, my last was 1 of 13. Also shows how many were built with each individual option.

Chowser Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 my BMW isn't listed, my wife's Buick LaCrosse (2008) is, it has 14 other exact builds. Let me check our old Buick and Oldsmobile... cant find her old VIN, but my Oldsmobile had 7 other exact builds. I will see if I can find my old Camaro vins and run them.
reddsun1 Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) Apparently, GM sent out letters to dealers in early Dec' urging them to have "fire sales" on all remaining stock of Pontiac and SAAB models. If I get the gist of it, the dealers will "buy" the remaining stock, giving them pre-owned status and allowing deep discounts, "up to 46% off sticker price" in some cases. Damn, now if only that meant that somewhere, there were a G8 on some lot about to be sticker-slashed by nearly 1/2...I'd haul a$$ down to the dealership then... Edited December 30, 2009 by reddsun1
David Hingtgen Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Yeah, I'd like a G8 too, but there's none for quite a few miles around, and having a Pontiac as a trade-in isn't worth what it used to be. (plus, no way I can get a new car now, regardless of how much they take off----I'll just hope that the 2012 etc cars from someone are awesome)
Gaijin Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 IF you can find a G8, run don't walk. I love mine.
emajnthis Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) None of my cars are in that database, 00 Subaru Impreza Outback, 98 Audi A4, 02 Ford Explorer. If someone told me a G8 was half off i would run as fast as i could to buy it. Such an awesome car, i would probably get rid of the Pontiac specific body treatment and import over the Holden/Vauxhall parts with the money i saved. Edited December 31, 2009 by emajnthis

peter Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 What, no trucks in this thread???? I've driven street cars all my life. My first car was a '93 Honda Prelude - loved it. After driving that for a few years, I got myself into NSXs and first gen civics. My Civic was supposed to be my beater, but I started pouring money into it and I can`t drive it in the winter anymore. So, I had to get a real beater and got myself a `93 Grand Cherokee.....the cycle is starting all over again and money is starting to trickle into it. Shadow Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Don't know if this was posted yet but for those that keep up with Formula 1. Lotus is making its return to the sport with Trulli and Kovalainen as its drivers. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/auto_ra...ory/240690.html
Agent ONE Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 notice not a single profile is taken of that car? Seriously... NEVER. Thats because it looks like sh!t.
areaseven Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 (and f**k you, the Panamera looks awesome stock. ) Wow...you're the only one so far who has used the words "Panamera" and "awesome" in the same sentence. Never thought that would ever happen.
chen Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I think you could use the word awesome to describe the performance of the turbo Panamera, that thing is wicked fast I believe Car and Driver tested one and got acceleration times faster than the last 911 turbo they tested. That's fast period, four doors or not as for looks it's different. But honestly it looks way better in person, much lower and wider than you would expect plus in a dark color with nice wheels and a subtle body kit it does look pretty nice.

I think most people would find that super cars look much better in person, there are just some things that even the best photography can't do justice to. I saw a black R8 yesterday, and i've seen them before, but the owner was in front of it and he let me get up close and personal with it. That car is stunning, i've always admired it in a strange way, but also kind of thought it looked like a TT with more vents. After really getting a 360 walk around and being able to sit in it, that car is really worth the price tag. My friend (mechanic) noticed the same thing, it's easy to criticize a vehicle until you've experienced it on some kind of personal level. He used to think Ferrari's were viagra in a glossy red, but after being able to work on and drive a 355, his opinion has 180'd.
emajnthis Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Are you going to turn it in to a GTO? I here they Build a version of the Famouse car. We have the GTO state side, but i'm more interested in turning it from a Pontiac into a Holden, the Holden body treatment (front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper) has (IMO) always looked better than the Pontiac doppelganger.

Agent ONE Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 It's about goddamn time... Fuel is more expensive than ever... Awesome time to bring out a larger engine.
reddsun1 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 but .4 litres of displacement wouldn't have that much impact on overall fuel consumption though, would it? They likely consider the brand identity strong enough to overrule any concerns about economy amongst Mustang fans.
David Hingtgen Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 But .4 liters smaller and some forced induction added would be better though IMHO. (that pretty much goes for every car/engine in existence nowdays)

I thought the GTO's in the US were imported from Australian GM/Holden or did they start building them in the US.
areaseven Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 I thought the GTO's in the US were imported from Australian GM/Holden or did they start building them in the US. The last-generation GTOs had always been imported from Australia.
emajnthis Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 The last-generation GTOs had always been imported from Australia. but branded with Pontiac trim and emblems, i'm more akin to the Holden trim and emblems.
