macrossnake Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 this actually suck for the people who can't build models and are stuck with this subpar toy... Well, even if we can build model, this is a 1/60 scale. That would be nice to have to same scale as the rest of my Yamato 1/60 macross collection...
jenius Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 The one good thing about bendy head lasers... you'll never break them. that's been a very common complaint about VF toys over the years... especially S variants.
aaajin Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 GIVE THOSE HEAD LASERS A DOUBLE DOSE OF VIAGRA! LOL! I almost spilled my cup of tea when I read that! But seriously, the way the head lasers bend symbolizes my 'bended' desire to own this toy too.... I dont sound serious do I?
transfan52 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 LOL! I almost spilled my cup of tea when I read that! But seriously, the way the head lasers bend symbolizes my 'bended' desire to own this toy too.... I dont sound serious do I? LMAO yeah that was a very funny comment... But cmon seriously! Bendy ears? I don't know about you guys but I always took care of my yamato valks with the hard plastic ears and they never broke off unless you willingly manhandled the toy lol... and at the 120 dollar price point I don't think many little kids are gonna get this either...
jenius Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 If a Yamato head laser breaks it's normally because it fell from a display stand, a shelf, or what have you. Not because you were handling it roughly... but because it wasn't in your hands. I witnessed a VF-1A LV fall from my shelf and snap its head laser... it was very sad.
CF18 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Soft head guns is worth complaining if Bandai cheap out is didn't provide a second set with hard plastic. Most HCM-Pro Gundams come with two sets of V-fins - the soft set is installed by default and a hard plastic set is included. My SOC spec Dragonar 1 also includes two set fo yellow fins, one hard one soft.
Shaggydog Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Whoa.. the people who've hated it all along, still hate it? and are still spamming the thread? what a shocker!
Hikuro Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Well, if I get this job I spotted before christmas, and my 401K check comes in, I'll get this along with some other stuff i wanted...but I can hold out on waiting.
m0n5t3r Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) nice B-mode poses sans Urkel ankles!... albeit a few mm shorter. but it does looks better... looks so much better. Edited December 27, 2008 by m0n5t3r
NSJ23 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Still getting the 25S despite the antenna issue, wish i had the funds to get both right now. Come on HLJ get these and send my request for payment.
MasterOfPuppets Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Alto's looks pretty wicked, and Ozma fails to impress. And I thought he was a man...
Master Dex Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Alto's looks pretty wicked, and Ozma fails to impress. And I thought he was a man... Ozma is a man, just the 1/60 scale representation of his Valkyrie fails to realize that, while his model does it and then some (for reference I own the 1/72 Ozma model and am 95% satisfied). I won't deny the bendy head lasers and difficult to see neck (it is there, just doesn't want to be seen) is a bit disappointing, but as far as everything else goes these things are looking pretty good. However I was not planning on getting the F or S. I am waiting on the VF-25G with super packs included, and on that topic that battroid always seemed to have a thicker head laser (mostly because there is only one I bet) so I have more hopes for the stability of that one.
NSJ23 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Ok so order stop on 25S and Jan restock on the 25F at HLJ hmmmm. I hope i ordered my 25S early enough.
MacrossJunkie Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Whoa.. the people who've hated it all along, still hate it? and are still spamming the thread? what a shocker! Well, I wouldn't say hate. But don't you think the crooked lasers and lack of neck on the 25S are legitimate complaints? I think the general attitude has changed from hate to acceptance of Bandai's take on the 25 toy. It seems many people like the DX 25 enough that they at least getting the RVF-25 or 25G when they come out. Mirroring other sentiments expressed in this thread, I would have liked to get the VF-25S at some point, but due to the recent pictures, I've decided against it. I do still like Michael's and have it pre-ordered and will likely get Luca's as well.
treatment Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Gallery of VF-25S in fighter mode. EDIT: Now updated with Gerwalk mode. http://www.toysdaily.com/discuz/thread-82795-1-1.html with this pic: http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh242/T...1974/017-24.jpg all i can say is... ...that's a really fugly grey gundam next to a VF-1J
IXTL Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) With all the shortcomings of the current version of the DX, I can see Bandai doing renewal versions some time down the line like they've done for SOC GX-01 and SPEC XS-01. There's enough stuff on the toy they can change and sell again as a new figure. While I've never been a DX hater, now that I've seen the final mass release version of the toys, I just can't help feeling disappointed. Edited December 27, 2008 by IXTL
SuperHobo Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 In all honesty the DX's do impress me except the VF-25S.......it just fails to deliver the goods.
Vostok 7 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Well, I wouldn't say hate. But don't you think the crooked lasers and lack of neck on the 25S are legitimate complaints? Less chance for fail with a single head laser, and so far the photos have looked decent. I was thinking about the -25S but Gashapon'd PVC head lasers are a MAJOR flub on a $100+ DX toy. I consider that a bigger deal than a supposed lack of neck. Vostok 7
Graham Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 just picked up my VF-25F Alto DX and VF-25S Ozma DX toys. I've taken a few quick snaps which I've posted below. No time for proper poses yet though. Here's some points of note: - 1) Sadly Ozma's VF really doesn't have much of a neck. I've posted a pic below showing the neck at maximum extension. Maybe some of our intrepid customizers can come up with a neck extension. My Ozma will be remaining in either Fighter or GERWALK modes, as IMO it looks really sucky in battroid mode. if you want a good VF-25S battroid mode, my advice get the model kit, or perhaps wait for the 1/100 scale toy. 2) The pilots are really tiny, compared with the Yamato 1/60 scale pilots. I'm guesing the Bandai pilots are more like 1/72 scale or smaller. Oh and they are non-removable. 3) The headlasers on both the Alto VF-25F and Ozma VF-25S are soft PVC! At least on Alto's VF they don't look so bad as they are thicker. But on Ozma's VF, they are really skinny. On my Ozma, one of the head lasers is already bent and no longer parallel. 4) The legs do lock in place in fighter mode. There is a peg on the underside of the wing glove, that locks into a hole on the side of the knee. This means that when you pick up the toy in fighter mode, the legs will not drop down. Sadly, the legs do not and cannot sit any higher in fighter mode than has already been shown. 5) No sticker sheet is provided. All the main markings are tampo printed on. 6) There is no storage in the shield for the knife. 7) The gunpod can only be attached in fighter mode with the adaptor piec. There is nowher on the VF to store the adaptor piec when not in use. The VF-25 DX is definitely not true 1/60 scale. In fighter mode, it is about 2cm shorter than the Yamato 1/60 YF-19 in fighter mode. Both planes are supposed to be about the same length. 9) The ventral fighter mode folding leg fins are really small and when open sit vertically straight down. They do not angle slightly out like they are supposed to be (unless I am doing something wrong). 10) The connection that holds the two halves of the groin together is not as securre as I expected, despite being quite beefy. I've had a few incidences of it coming unlocked when handling the toy. 11) The gunpod plastic is too light grey in color IMO. 12) Looks like it's not possible to get a GERWALK pose with the nose touching the ground, due to limitations with the knee and ankle articulation. 13) The hands are a 2 peice construction. The fingers and palm being one piece of PVC and the hand guard being ABS. The hand guard falls off really easily on all the hands and needs gluing on. 14) To fit the shield in fighter mode, you do need to fit the special fighter mode hands. It will not fit with the fists, open hands or weapn holding hands. More impressions later. Graham
IXTL Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) 1) Sadly Ozma's VF really doesn't have much of a neck. 2) The pilots are really tiny, compared with the Yamato 1/60 scale pilots. Wasn't expecting the pilot to be non-removable but given all the other "problems" on the toy, I can't say I'm surprised. Not being true 1/60 scale sucks. Imho, the unpainted glossy plastic makes the toy look cheap in the photos seen so far. I wonder if it really looks like that in person. Also, that knife is reeeaallly blunt. Now I'll have to reconsider if I still want to get the DX VF-25G. Maybe I'll get MP Grimlock with the money instead. Edited December 27, 2008 by IXTL
SuperHobo Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Well the VF-25S neck looks better at full extension, but it still looks meh. VF-25G with fast packs for me.
treatment Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&id=61492 oh, my. that left head-laser (camera-view) on the Alto is really, uhhh, not straight. edit: actually, it's the right head-laser on the Alto. Edited December 27, 2008 by treatment
MacrossJunkie Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Could you take a profile shot of the fighter mode without the landing gear deployed and the gunpod not attached?
ntsan Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I think the VF-25 could be 1/65 like their older cousin
MacrossJunkie Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I think the VF-25 could be 1/65 like their older cousin You're probably right. Comparing the size of it to the YF-19 there puts it closer in scale to Bandai's VF-17 Nightmare toy. Wow, those pilots are tiny! Argh, I really wanted these to be in scale with my 1/60 Yamato valks >.<
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Thanks for the initial report Graham. Can the knife be stored anywhere in battroid mode? In the instruction manual I thought I saw a picture where knife is stored somewhere in fighter mode, I wonder if the area isn't blocked by anything in battroid mode. Do Alto and Ozma's VF-25's share the same neck piece? Maybe the head on the 25S is significantly bigger than on the 25F, resulting in the neck not being as apparent. Is it possible to carve away some of the interior of the shield to house the hands that can hold the weapons, yet still remain functional? Also, is the toy more durable than the 1/55 or 1/48?
badboy00z Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 And to add to the list of the things that sucks/wrong. You can totally see the cockpit from the rear and side profile. I wouldn't want to be kicked in the ass or get shot in the side.
nugundamII Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I think the VF-25 could be 1/65 like their older cousin Thanks for the review and pics Still looks nice tho. It looks sturdy. Is it sturdy and solid. Kinda of upset about the neck thing but my mind is made up now its the G version for me. Still willing to buy one as they are nice. but it has to come with the fast packs also cant belive so many of you can afford to buy multiples of these!!! But then again I also collect a lot of SOC and Transformers and oh yes MP Grimmy is on my list But you wont be disappointed in the Beta fighter. I know it robotech but they are related to macross as the storey was arched together and their still is the Beagle 1/15 Ride Armor which looks nice!
UN Spacy Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Thank you Graham. Definitely leaning towards the Alto.

The G might suck also. I hope Bandai does a complete revamp soon. How long did it take them to do the 2.0 for the other SOCs?

Black Valkyrie Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Thanks for the update Graham, it seems I won`t be buying any VF-25 for now.

Ginrai Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 You know with PVC antennas and such you can always warm them up (I usually use hot water on such parts) and then put them in the shape you want, and then get them cold in that shape and they will usually stay that way.
