But not necessarily for ER and Jurassic Park, which all of the media was mentioning in the obits.

I think that his best works were The Andromeda Strain (good book AND film, a rare combination) and Westworld. He was really plagiarising himself with Jurassic Park, which was a Westworld ripoff.

We will miss him and his genius.

He will be missed indeed. Of the many books I read (Congo, Sphere, Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park etc.) I liked his semi-autobiographical book Travels.

I found his later books rather weaker than the earlier ones; The Andromeda Strain I think is my favourite. And we do have him to thank for making dinosaurs freakin' awesome again.

He will be missed, an excellent author and story teller who made science fun and accessible to the masses.

His later books were pure C-movie stuff, but Andromeda and the dinosaurs rule the earth.

News of his passing came as a shock. Sphere, Congo and Jurassic Park were among some of my favorite books growing up.

He was a much better film writer than a novelist (even his best books seemed more like novelizations of upcoming movies to me), but his films could be thrilling and interesting (still love Westworld, as hokey as it is).

I met him once at a bookstore I worked at about ten years ago. He was obviously tired, but kind and gracious (and very, very tall).

My favourite Novel is Timeline (And the movie was horrendously bad) but after that his stuff became SO-So. Prey was ok, State of Fear was pretty good, but Next was terrible.

Illl miss the guy though.
