shadow3393 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I need an opinion on the approximate size of the vajira destroyer. Here is what I have now, compared to the NMC and the Uraga, both are to the length specs given from the Macross Mech Manual. Quote
sketchley Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Psst: it's referred to as バジュラ母艦 - Vajra Mothership. Quote
Mr March Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 We don't have much in the way of figures for the sizes of the Macross Frontier ships. About the only fact we know is the Macross Quarter is supposed to be roughly 400 meters long. If that's the case, your Vajra warship looks a little too small, since the Macross Quarter was shown as much smaller than the Vajra warship in Macross Frontier episode #7. In fact the Macross Quarter half-fit in between the two forward booms of the Vajra warship main gun. While this is all just a guess, I get the feeling the Vajra warships are around the 800+ meter mark, making them just over half the length of the New Macross Class. Quote
shadow3393 Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 I thought this was the mothership http://www.new-un-spacy.com/macrossf/vajra-mothership.htm I approximated the new size from ep 25, when it was attacking the NMC in the beginning, assuming the CIC display had everything in scale. Side note: apparently Battle Galaxy was projecting Ranka Ree Quote
Fade Rathnik Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 The proportions look right for the scale, i think that the tail is a bit too long though. Quote
Mr March Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 It looks about right, but like I said, we don't really know what's right at this point, so this is all just guessing. Quote
sketchley Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I haven't seen anything specifically identifying it, in Japanese. Though, given what a mother ship is, it can also be labelled as one. I thought this was the mothership http://www.new-un-spacy.com/macrossf/vajra-mothership.htm Quote
sketchley Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Ga! Checked another source. It's referred to as a バジュラ空母 (Vajra (aircraft) Carrier) in it! 母艦 comes from "Macross F: 2059 Memories" and 空母 comes from Hobby Japan, a modeling magazine. Quote
shadow3393 Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 I guess its a carrier then, because in Chinese, 母艦 means carrier, but the literal translation is mothership. Dunno if its the same in Japanese. But then again my Chinese is pretty rusty. Quote
Mr March Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 When we say "it" (in reference to the ship) are we referring to the smaller Vajra warships or the BIG Vajra warship that I've called the mothership? I'll note the name and make a change in the next update, as soon as I know what ship we're talking about. We should also include this in the translation thread (even though it's not "technically" Chronicle related). It's just good to have all the stuff in one thread. Quote

I was talking about the smaller one, given the kanji from sketchley's first post. I think it translates to carrier but I am basing it off of what I know from Chinese. shadow3393 Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Made the tail sorter and re-tweaked the fins. New comparison shots Quote
sketchley Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 The small one. Two publications refer to it by different names. The Macross F dedicated book refers to it as "Mothership", the modelling focused magazine refers to it as a "Carrier". The big one has yet to be identified in any print source that I've come across. Quote
Mr March Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Hmmm. I think I'll choose Vajra Carrier. Quote
sketchley Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Your choice, but just keep in mind that the Japanese word for carrier is "Air Mother". So, "mother ship" isn't that far from either term ("Carrier/Air Mother" vs "Mothership/Mother Warship". Quote
