David Hingtgen Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Slightly OT, but one of the more annoying facts about SDF:M to me is that a disproportionately large number of Milia scenes/episodes, are the poorly-animated ones. She looks bad most of the time you see her!

Marzan Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Y'know, I've been watching "Virgin Road" again, and while everyone remembers the knife fight, the VF-1D that doesn't LOOK like a VF-1D, and Milia looking absolutely butt-ugly...I wonder if anyone's noticed that Hikaru's got some pretty strange expressions on his face... I don't know who they outsourced that chapter to, but everytime I see it I can't help but thinking that the designs and animation were just atrocious... IN some of those shots Hikaru almost resembles Kakizaki

VFTF1 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Not really because when I see that scene - all I can think of is poor Misa running off in tears Love triangles only started to stop being sad when Ranka and Sheryl did a lesbian lap dance for Alto Before that- we were in the dark ages of SDFM TV where it was impossible to concieve of Minmay and Misa doing any thing more than shaking hands after 27 episodes....although DYRL did kind of break the ice with those wordless smiles and general sounds of female pleasure IIRC.... Yeah - that's true of course. I guess if the guy she loved ASKED her to wear that outfit in private - she would. But of her own accord and in public...I doubt it. On that note - I guess I'm not a fan of the outfit on her either. It's way too athletic and hip/youthful. I actually prefer the outfits Misa chooses to wear on her own accord as seen both in DYRL and in SDFM TV. In DYRL, when she and Hikaru go out into the city after returning from Earth/captivity - I love what she's wearing. In SDFM TV when she goes to see Shao Pai Lon - I again really dig her civilian clothes. They are not scream out loud sexy like Sheryl, but rather classic, elegent and tasteful. But because of the way she conducts herself, they look very sexy on her anyways. Misa is the Lauren Bacal of Macross. Lauren Bacal never had to wear anything less than the well cut blouses, dresses and skirts she wore to look attractive. Misa need not be that glamorous - she wears "simple" 70s style jeans, skirts and sweaters - but they are enough. The only get up I think she doesn't look good in is - ironically - her uniform. The only time she looks good as a soldier is in her flight suit- AFTER getting all wet I'm not trying to say that all girls should dress like Misa, nor am I dissing lace and lingerie that Macross Frontier excels in (how could I) - but I guess I just don't want to see Misa in contemporary sexy get ups because for me - what makes her appealing is the same thing that appeals to me in my girlfriend - her tasteful tradionalism...or at the very least, let's call it her classic sense of sexy. polidread Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 awesome awesome! that 1982 design style got updated beautifully! i mean, this decade's pop fashion styles are inclined to channel the 1980's (fashion nearly always does a retro for every decade) but, yeah with a modern inspired flare! my friends mostly snickered at the green polka dot dress when i show them clips of Minmay in the old anime, but Mr.Mikimoto's update is great and actually looks like what some of my officemates wear when we go out!

What surprised me is that the original pachinko Minmay artwork is the exact same dress, just a different color scheme. I'd reckon a lot us said, "Oh, Minmay in another polka dot dress! That's pretty," without realizing it was that polka dot dress.

Macross the First needs to fast forward to some scenes where Misa stops looking so stiff and starts looking attractive !!! Mikimoto's so mean - even in this litle picture Misa comes off as this utter stiff bore... I mean...insofar as Cathy in MF is somewhat an emulation of Misa - she's not ... because Cathy's just strict, and she's certainly got a sense of her own sex appeal - and besides, she dated Ozma. But Misa...dag... looking at her you wouldn't imagine she even had any feelings buried beneath that exterior... Mikimoto really really did a good job with these redesigns - but I am positive that later in Macross: First we will see Misa in a "new" light - and I'm really curious how Mikimoto will animate her then. But for now- dag! That Minmey makes me happy that I have Minmey in my avatar! Pete
