thegunny Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 That So Ra No Wa To looks like K-On joins the Army The saviour for me is Hidamari Sketch
Rbstr Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) From what I gather So ra no wa is supposed to have some fairly heavy "dieing world" vibe. The words "Now and Then Here and There" have been thrown around a bit. I'm gonna be on the lookout for dead cats. Edited December 25, 2009 by Rbstr
Ghost Train Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 K-on.... season 2.... it's coming: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-...eason-green-lit
ron5864 Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Just finished watching Rideback. I didn't expect anything from this show but came away impressed with the character and story developement. The mecha design of the Rideback was simple but elegant. It was nice to see a story that puts a bond between the operator and mecha since that doesn't happen much in mecha anime. The other recent anime I can think of is Setsuna and his Gundam 00 which had the same bond.
Vile Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Just started watching Last Exile. A little slow going and a tad Porco Rosso-like (I like Porco Rosso), but it looks promising. You can't really go wrong with aerial battleships. Well, not in the universe inside my head.

wolfx Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Angel Beats, a collaboration between Visualarts KEY, Aniplex and G's Magazine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQNipo08ejM...player_embedded it looks gorgeous. And probably KEY's 1s foray into the action genre.
Vepariga Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 kinda want to watch Ikki Tousen, can anyone tell me if its any good? I liked Tenjou tenge and still read the manga of it.

XD haha,I thought as much, I guess i wont rush to watch it then. but a school-fighting anime without ridiculous dialogue is a rare find lol, unless you mean extra ridiculous
Ghost Train Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 If you like softcore porn ,ridiculous dialogue, and bastardisation of the romance of the 3 kingdoms, then yes. XD Well, that is a pretty accurate description of anime in general today lol.
Robelwell202 Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I just started 'Ghost Hound' on the recommendation of a friend. So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing. Anyone else watchi this one?

ron5864 Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Just watched the movie version of Eureka Seven. How come the movie version has a different story line than the TV series? Didn't Renton first met Eureka when she crash landed her TypeZero onto his grandpa's repair shop? The movie had Dominic and Anemone in a different role. The other differences are the way Renton joined the Gekko State and the background of most of the supporting characters. Eureka seems more lively and normal than her expressionless TV counterpart. At least it ended in a similar way for both main characters. Man, I think this Eureka Seven version just got the DYRL treatment.

Man, I think this Eureka Seven version just got the DYRL treatment. nearest we can figure, the movie is either the "legend" retelling of the story OR the movie is the first time these characters were in this cycle and because they screwed up, they all came back and had a chance to redo it which were the events in the TV series. There's stuff to support the later idea, like the megaroad leaving and how the planet gets changed. If you remember in the TV show they talk about how they "colonized" the planet.
Vepariga Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Ive been watching a few episodes of ADV's english-dub of SDF Macross ,I dont really like the voice cast much,i have to admit i prefered the robotech voiceactors, but seeing minmay is voiced by Mari Iijima surprised me good and proper! shes abit engrishy but hey i can live with that. other the poor choices for everyone else,i can let kamjins voice slide aswell, its not bad.

My personal taste has always been in favour of subs over dubs , not just for Macross but for all anime in general. Having said that, I believe there's a couple of dubs out there that are excellent, in particular because they're very context relevant. The 2 that I often mention are Cowboy Bebop and Hellsing.
Ghost Train Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 But the best dub ever is "Clash of the Bionoids," it introduced me to a style of the English language I had never encountered before.
VFTF1 Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 If you like softcore porn ,ridiculous dialogue, and bastardisation of the romance of the 3 kingdoms, then yes. XD I was also wondering if I should watch Icky Toes End... I like softcore porn (although prefer hardcore), often really love ridiculous dialogue... but I've never heard of the romance of 3 Kingdoms...so I wouldn't know if I like a bastardized version of it or not? Also - is Queen's Blade an anime or manga...or is it just a game that apparently got popular enough to have poseable milk spilling figures made for it? I'm kind of trying to figure out what to watch this year... Still haven't seen K-On either.. Man..I wish I could just walk into the damn store and BUY this stuff. I swear - watching anime is like so kind of frickin' search for the Holy Grail or something... first you wonder if/when/where you'll even find the stuff...then the time spent downloading.. ... then (in my case) the constant "oh my computer died" ...or at least seemingly constant...3 times in 3 years ain't bad I guess..but still... gotta finally burn this stuff onto CDs...seriously... I walk in to the anime section of movie stores in Poland and all I see - that I recognize - is Gundam (mainly SEED movies), Ghost in the Shell (which I even bought out of desperation) and...the rest of it..beats the hell out of me what it is...I dunno... Oh well...I need to stop procrastinating and just get to it! Pete

Queens Blade and Ikkitousen are tournament anime with big breasted bimbo's slugging in out while getting undressed in the process. Think of superheroines and Streetfighter type videogames with nudity. Queens blade is connected to Hobby Japan, a modeling magazine. It's very popular over here with teenagers for obvious reasons. Doubt it's interesting for people in a less hormone driven stage of life. I'm kind of trying to figure out what to watch this year... Still haven't seen K-On either.. There is tons of great material out there, the more I see, the more I realise what I haven't seen and still want to see. There have been over 2000 anime made the last decade, even if 90% is crap that still leaves 200 great titles to watch out there and there is more before that. Why don't you buy a region free DVD player? Those things cost next to nothing and then you can order anime from the States (very cheap if you buy season boxes). Sites like Right stuff, DVD Pacific, Play and Deepdiscount all offer large selections and inexpensive shipping. Edited January 3, 2010 by Bri
wolfx Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 queen's blade is some illustrated game book with stats or something. I'm not entirely sure how its played but it has to do with you exchanging your character's book with your opponent's? Didn't really cared enough to find out more.

RogueTrooper Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Finished Gundam ZZ and Char's counter-attack and moving on to the Giant Robo OVA.

Ghost Train Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I was also wondering if I should watch Icky Toes End... I like softcore porn (although prefer hardcore), often really love ridiculous dialogue... but I've never heard of the romance of 3 Kingdoms...so I wouldn't know if I like a bastardized version of it or not? Pete Romance of the 3 kingdoms is basically the most famous Chinese War Epic - for Chinese literature, it's kind of like what The Iliad is for the Greeks. Anyways, it was written in the 14th century, but deals with the period of history following the collapse of the Han Dynasty ~ 220AD. The story is quite popular in Japan (and Eastern Asia in general) as well, as evidenced by the myriad of games made like the Dynasty Warriors series.... there is even a SD Gundam series based on the tale I think XD.... and of course Iki Tousen. You would think that as a biblio-phile I would be offended by Iki Tousen, but I'm not... I like boobs too.
The Shade Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I went a bit retro (now that we're in the 2010s, is the 1990s now considered old school?) and decided to watch "Now and Then, Here and There" from 1999. I've watched 6 episodes so far. It's good, but sort of depressing. The lead character, Shu, is basically thrown into a war and is totally powerless to do anything about it. Even the soldiers around him basically just do as they're told, even though they know it's wrong. Can't wait to watch more.

Nearly all DVD-ROM drives give you the option of changing the region a set number of times (somewhere between 4 & 10) before t hey perminently lock in. If you're using a software solution, then you won't have to worry, but otherwise, becareful or your perminently lock your drive into a region.

Marzan Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Just watched Patlabor the Movie for the first time, after having watched the OVA last year. Loved it! Mecha anime that adults can enjoy. Its becoming rarer and rarer these days. Gonna watch Patlabor 2 in the next couple of days. Looking forward to it... And then I'll have to get my hands on Patlabor 3 which has never had a region 2 release Sigh...
Bri Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Just watched Patlabor the Movie for the first time, after having watched the OVA last year. Loved it! Mecha anime that adults can enjoy. Its becoming rarer and rarer these days. So true, I've rewatched the Patlabor TV series a while back. Left me a bit melancholic that a show like this can't be made anymore. The characters just have it all. Noa's got cute down to an artform without moe cliches. Asuma is not a bishji emo twat. Goto just rules every scene, the mechanics are brilliant and Ota is well... Ota. Guess I'm getting old
Gui Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 [...] And then I'll have to get my hands on Patlabor 3 which has never had a region 2 release [...] This one will probably disappoint you
Marzan Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 This one will probably disappoint you Yeah, I've read a couple of reviews and they are all pretty negative. Is it really that different from the rest of the Patlabor franchise?
