akt_m Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Pure weapons-grade unobtainium, just like every other giant robot and its giant robot dog. This shouldn't come as any real surprise, as just about anything that defies conventional technology in sci-fi or mecha shows is made of fictional supermetals. It's a convention nearly as old as sci-fi itself. Whatever the armor of the EVAs is made out of, it's VERY strong, able to withstand pummeling from other EVA units, and even a high-energy particle beam-like attack from one particular Angel. Actually Ristuko said that it wasn't an armor, but locks.

Field is what does all the protecting. the A.T. field is as you said force field type thing which isolates souls from each other (it makes much more sense when taken in the context that within the shows world a soul isn't a theological concept but a quantifiable energy pattern). I'm not sure if it's ever clarified whether the pilot is tapping into the EVA's innate AT field, or the EVA's biology is being used to amplify the pilot's own AT field. The Eva's have there own A.T. fields. Each EVA contain a donor soul, who's A.T. Field is amplified by the body of the EVA. the pilot is then able to synchronize with the EVA and control the Unit's A.T. field. it all makes much more sense if you watch episodes 1-24 then The End of Evangelion movie.
CoryHolmes Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I just finished watching the whole series of Gasaraki. I first tried watching it years and years ago but couldn't get into it, despite its nifty mecha designs. This time I was able to muddle my way through some of the chewier scenes and discovered myself really enjoying it, despite it being very obviously "inspired" by Eva. So much so that it took a sharp left turn at the 2/3rds point and plunged into deep left field. While there are many parts that seem rushed and ideas that were never quite explored as much as I'd like, it's still a solidy entertaining show*. 3.5/5 * take this opinion with a grain of salt, since I'm rewatching the 2008 American Gladiators series and finding it solidly entertaining
Marzan Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Just started watching Elfen Lied. Not bad so far (4 episodes). Nice buildup, good story. Not too crazy about the character design though. Those huge eyes with the big glare are a bit too much for me. The music though is absolutely amazing. So much so that I tried tracking down the OST down on several websites (ebay, amazon, cdjapan) to no avail. Those anyone know if it can be had comercially?
BeyondTheGrave Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Anybody ever see Diebuster? Also Hellsing ova 6 is..... idk i cant think of a word.
Keith Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Anybody ever see Diebuster? Also Hellsing ova 6 is..... idk i cant think of a word. I personally loved Diebuster, both on its own merit, and as a sequal.
Marzan Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Anybody ever see Diebuster? Also Hellsing ova 6 is..... idk i cant think of a word. Diebuster as a standalone is all right I guess. It's just that compared to Gunbuster i found it a bit lacking. But it's still a very entertaining on a very epic scale. The art and animation really reminded me of FLCL.

Keith Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 OVA, the movie version trims down a fair bit, including a lot of the trademark Gainax fanservice. The only upside to picking up the movie version is that it's on bluray.
Marzan Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Just finished watching Elfen Lied. Incredibly disturbing yet brilliant at the same time. It really highlights how cruel humans can be to one another. And I still can't find that soundtrack anywhere. I'm gonna have no choice but to download it.

Yeah this show kinda caught me by surprise when it was 1st released. It was like some kinda dark twisted version of Chobits or something...and the story was pretty good too.

It's one of those series that hooked me right from the start (with that awesome violence, how could it not??), and kept my attention til the very end.

And the ending...it's totally sad and dark, yet also strangely sweet.
Bri Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 For the winter season A-1 will release a new anime called So Ra No Wo To in the new 'Anime no Chikara' block in Januari written by Hiroyuki Yoshino of Macross Frontier. This block is meant to promote anime beyond it's otaku audience by assembling top creators to develop original anime television series. The story apparently focuses on a group of girls who enlisted in the military and end up protecting a fortress (while being musicians) in a post war situation... Strangely the character designs resemble K-on! in Wehrmacht uniforms. Supposedly it should have a Nausicaa vibe and be free of moe and fanservice (yes, K-on without moe, uh-huh). Still given the dreadfull level of the coming winter releases this anime has at some potential.

Bri Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Very Strike Witches if u ask me....and they look moe enough. Trailer Yea, that was my first thought aswell but A1 is quite different from Gonzo. Altough I hope this turns out better than Valkyria did...

I seriously doubt moe free anime is possible in this day and age but lets hope you're right and it turns out all right. Do you know if its licensed already?

An otherwise interesting story ruined by faux mysticism. The same happened with Macross Zero.

Do you know if its licensed already? Will take a while, if ever, licensing companies usually wait untill a few months after airing before announcing new titles. The more recent of the announced titles have aired roughy a year ago in Japan. Afaik two autumn titles have been licensed sofar: Inuyashu and Queensblade 2. Noting from the winter season as of yet.
Wanzerfan Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I don't know if this is related, but... My brother's borrowing the three live action Death Note Japanese DVDs. I couldn't get into the anime, because it was a little too weird for my tastes. Are the three L.A. DVDs the same as the anime?

wolfx Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Just watched Summer Wars. It was ok....but i felt there was no "main character" throughout the movie so it was kind of hard for viewers to relate. THere was a tonne of characters in the movie as well but lack of character depth for any. Story is light hearted and fun....but i feel it falls short from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

VFTF1 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 The only anime I'm looking forward to is the one about the girls in high school forming a black lace panties club. that and the Haruhi Suzumiya movie. I WOULD love it if 2010 gave us another classic - but failing that Keith has given me a whole list of stuff I need to watch from like...the 70s man!...or there abouts... Pete
Vepariga Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I watched 'The girl who lept thru time' ..alil sad really.. now im watching the 'Tenjou Tenge: Ultimate Fight OVAs' becuase i need to continue where the series abruptly finished off lol.

VFTF1 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Courtesy of GNN (Gubaba News Network): CHUU-BRA Animation Studio: ZEXCS(Da Capo, Chrome Shelled Regios) Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/chuubra/ Available Trailers: Trailer 1 Source: Adaptation of the manga by Yumi Nakata. Summary: The story centers on Nayu, a middle school girl who shocks her schoolmates on the first day of school by wearing black lace panties. She likes this kind of underwear, and she tries to “spread the word on the merits of [these kinds of] underwear” via an underwear club with her schoolmates, who are worried about their bodies’ development and which underwear to choose. I ca't wait for the figures... I just hope they come with real panties because it would finally give me something to market to women... Pete

VFTF1 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Yeah... has anybody read the manga? It sounds like it would be a lot of fun! Although they could throw in some mecha for good measure Like that one RX-78-2 with the pink hues and white lace... we could get some "Black Lace Panties" mecha Pete
Marzan Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I so hope they fansub that baby! A story about black lace panties. And some purists were upset at the fact that there was a Frontier episode about panties! Imagine the uproar about this one...
Bri Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) This is what will air in the winter season of 2009-2010. Be warned moe/school life overload and some themes that make the pantsu club look rather tame. Edited December 23, 2009 by Bri
VFTF1 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) I'm definitely rooting for Chu-bra! All the other ones look lame and generic. This one has gutts - IF it's done right. The concept sounds fantastic. Then gaina, the concept of a secret organization watching as the Earth declines into warfare over energy and pledging to end war by using super powerful mobile suits sounded (and still sounds) great too. Sadly, the execution was lacking... Same can be said for Strike Witches, which looks bizarrely appealing but didn't reall catch my heart. This could be one of those anime where the idea is great but there is epic failure. I want to be pleasantly knocked off my seat like I was by Gurren Lagann and Haruhi Suzumiya ... But that is quite a line up for the winter season! Nice to have it so well organized. EDIT: Hanamaru kindergarten looks like it could be fun too. Yotsubism crossed with Calvin and Hobbes ? ... beats me...but Chibi adventures are sometimes cool (at least I liked Haruhi Chibi-san. Haruhi-chan..) Thanks, Pete Edited December 23, 2009 by VFTF1
wolfx Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I'm definately catching Dance in the Vampire Bund. Its like loli version of Hellsing.
