Wanzerfan Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Buffy Angel ER Moore's BSG Teen Titans Star Trek DS9 Star Trek Next Generation X-Files Terminator the Sarah Conner Chronicles Twin Peaks JAG Stargate SG-1 Stargate Atlantis Tru Calling Xiaolin Showdown Avatar the Last Airbender Blade the TV series Farscape ... eugimon Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 (edited) Most of those shows were pulled from the air for one reason and one reason only. Lack of Ratings!!! Discovering the bold function doesn't make something true. Of the shows that were canceled most weren't done so because of ratings but because the shows were so old they became too expensive. Angel was canned because it didn't "fit the direction of the network" which was apparently down the toilet. Most shows in the west aren't designed with a defined end in mind. Most shows, nearly all shows, are designed to be non linear by nature. Low ratings or budget issues are therefore the reason for cancellation for nearly all shows. This doesn't mean that they show up the studio one day and find out they were fired. They find these things out, usually, weeks or months ahead of time. Most of these shows knew they were going out and yet they still chose to go out open ended with several key plot and character arcs unresolved. Edited August 25, 2009 by eugimon
Major Focker Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 just learned of Canaan. seems to be in the same vein as Noir and Madlax. is it any good?
Ghost Train Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 just learned of Canaan. seems to be in the same vein as Noir and Madlax. is it any good? Canaan is worth a watch . Now that you mention it, it does remind me of Noir as well.
Noriko Takaya Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I've given up anime for now. Been watching a lot of Korean and Japanese horror films. Been liking the Korean ones a lot lately. Just finished watching Attack Girls' Swim Team vs the Undead, which had to be the stupidest movie ever made. Great lesbo scene though... You know, what we need here is a thread dedicated to live action Japanese and Korean films. And maybe AreaSeven can do some of his reviews.
Noriko Takaya Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Most of those shows were pulled from the air for one reason and one reason only. Lack of Ratings!!! X-Files wasn't cancelled due to lack of ratings. It was cancelled because it was on TV too long and outlived its usefullness. 10 years was a pretty successful run.

Noriko Takaya Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Have you seen A Tale of Two Sisters? It's fantastic As a matter of fact, that is in my queue for my next Netflix rental. I just finished watching the revenge trilogy, and my favorite out of the three was Old Boy. The ending was kind of messed up though. If I had found out what he did, I would have killed myself.

Ye gads, was it ever awful. My favorite Japanese zombie flick (not BEST, mind you, just my favorite) remains Stacy.

dreamweaver13 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I watched that one a couple of months ago. Ye gads, was it ever awful. My favorite Japanese zombie flick (not BEST, mind you, just my favorite) remains Stacy. Bruce Campbell's Right Hand, and the Romero Kill Troops. It can't get any better than that! I loved how virtually indestructible the zombies were. yeah, Old Boy was quite amazing. I liked Sympathy for Lady Vengeance as well. Old Boy was crazy wonderful.
dreamweaver13 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Great lesbo scene though... That's all you needed to say, really. Hook line and sinker. You know, what we need here is a thread dedicated to live action Japanese and Korean films. And maybe AreaSeven can do some of his reviews. One movie i've been dying to see is the live action Higurashi movie. I loved the anime. and i loved the trailer. I think it was released a while back, but for the life of me i can't find a fansubbed version yet. Another one i want to see is the live action Yatterman movie. it's so full of camp and cheese, i'm sure it's gonna be tons of fun. and besides, Kyoko Fukada in Doronjo costume looked H-O-T.

My favorite Japanese zombie flick (not BEST, mind you, just my favorite) remains Stacy. The way the swim girl dispatched that guy with a laser in her you-know-what was kind of cool. And Stacy is a good movie also. Loved all the zombie movie references in it also.

As if the name of the movie and the accompanying poster wasn't clue enough. Well at least the girls were hot and running around in swimsuits....right?
Noriko Takaya Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Well at least the girls were hot and running around in swimsuits....right? Well, I'm not going to really be giving away any spoilers since the movie is the Japanese equivalent of watching softcore porn on Cinemax, but only two of the girls are running around in swimsuits when they are wearing them and not swapping spit with each other. The rest of the swimteam was killed off in like 5 minutes by the zombies. Real intimidating, eh? And yeah, the girls are hot. While we're at it, a friend of mine recommended a J-Horror film to me that I never heard of and when I found it, downloaded it and burned it to a DVD to watch I nearly pissed myself watching it it was so stupidly funny. It was called Sexual Parasite: Killer Pussy. If you want a laugh, check that one out.

Y'know, that reminds me...there was one that I saw years and years ago called "Nine-One" (yes, it was a female ninja movie). Pretty stupid movie, but the girls were cute. And one of them used the strong muscles in her hoo-hah to crush a rapist's wee-wee. Pretty great scene... Unfortunately, I checked amazon.co.jp, and it doesn't look like the movie is available on DVD.

Wanzerfan Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I caught a few episodes of Morbido on Adult Swim (the Saturday block, not the crap block on Sunday night). I couldn't really get into it.
wolfx Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) Started watching Bokura Ga Ita last weekend. A total tear-jerking-shoujo-romance anime not recommended for the manly men of MW. Watch it at your own risk unless you want a romance fix. Ahhh youth. How i miss it. Edited September 1, 2009 by wolfx
shiroikaze Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Finished Lost Memories of Xam'd just earlier, I enjoyed it. First time in a while where I feel happy for the characters (most of them) and feel empty at the same time... Thanks for taking me on an adventure.
Keith Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Just Zero on Blu-ray, and damn, apparently I'd never seen it before
wolfx Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 2 weeks ago i started with Kemono No Souja Erin and i was wondering where this story was gonna take me. Wow...it started from some slice-of-life story into one of coming of age, and suddenly now its one of political intrigue and how one girl fits into the whole thing. Pretty interesting ride. Its currently at ep 31 and not sure when and where its gonna end.

Noriko Takaya Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Well, I've finally gotten around to ordering my Mysterious Cities of Gold DVD set. So inbetween watching my Korean horror movies, I'll be watching this also.
Whamhammer Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Over the last year, I've been intro'ing my g.f. to anime. She is in love with The Slayers and cant wait for the fourth series to come through over here. She liked Hellsing. Right now were watching Bubblegum Crisis. She doesnt like the subtitled, but prefers the dubbed (i dont like the dubbed voices, wish they had done better than to have had the actors not all on hardocreanti-depressants {zombie like voice acting}, but she doesnt like subtitled so oh well).
Greyryder Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Anyone else been watching Bleach? The current filler arc is actually interesting!
Scream Man Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 im about 100/200 episodes behind bleach. I only by the Aussie box sets, and so far there have been 2. havent even made it out of the tower where they were keeping the soultaker chick. So yeah, Ima tiny bit behind As for TV Im watching: To many shows to name, Im a TV whore.
e_jacob77 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 HI all, Code Geass, any good? Thanx for your time!

So yeah, Ima tiny bit behind As for TV Im watching: To many shows to name, Im a TV whore. imo Bleach sort of went down hill after the Soul Society Rescue Arc which is what you were referring to. The current arc in the manga though is truly epic, and I can't wait until the anime catches up to that.
shiroikaze Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Bakemonogatari <3 Interestingly, the atmosphere feels almost exactly like Persona 3. HI all, Code Geass, any good? Thanx for your time! It's a fabulous trainwreck. If you start watching, you won't be able to take your eyes away from it. First season's worth a watch... Second--I guess it is too.
Ghost Train Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Code Geass is like off in its own universe. Using the words "good/bad" to describe it is like trying to show different colors to a blind person.

It was also being talked about by everyone watching it at the time. And it did give me cravings for Pizza Hut.
