So if Macross 21 is Galaxy and 25 is Frontier, what is Macross 7? And yes I realize any name would be a retcon.

Does the name reflect the destination or overall purpose of the colony?

Or can we say they don't get names because they're not shown with names in the animated graphic at the beginning of Ep 1?

The Macross 7 and Macross 5 did not have these designations as they were the first.

Probably government funded fleets.

Frontier and Galaxy from the feel of them seems to be privately invested upon in a way.

Well Battle 7 did have the nickname The Big M.

No, I believe that name is reserved for Battle Frontier, nicknamed the "Big Mac" as it flies alongside the "Quarter Pounder".

It has a sister ship manned by a British captain, and its called Macross Royale (with Cheese).

In Macross 7, the original Battle-7 (or The Big-M) was destroyed during the final battle. They redbuild her, and christened the name "Battle Bomber", the original plan to paint it red was rejected by Major Miriya.

Not without her name on it. Why not color it blue withsome stripes of red and call in Battle Virgin Road?

Oh wait Battle 7 was already painted blue with some red stripes, never mind....

I believe that colour scheme was used for the WTF-7 Basara when it was commissioned as part of the special long range spiritia warfare fleet.
