thegunny Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Was cleaning out the storage shed today and got a bit of a shock when I took stock of the kits I had sitting around protecting the floor from dust. Macross related kits first: Just a few Valks Some Battroids etc Some Zero & Plus kits A bit of resin (found a few more after that aren't in the photo like the 1/48 Club M Super/Strike, Cat's Eye (copy), complete Moscato Booster & tractor set & all of the Moscato mecha) Some Mospeada Southern Cross (just about all the Macross resin, Mospeada & Southern Cross kits have come from the good members of this site ) A bit of Patlabor A bit of Nadesico (also found a Musasiya Nadesico resin kit later) A lot of Gundam And finally a few kits from various shows such as GITS, VOTOMS, Sakura Wars & the game Virtual On. As well as about 15 Star Trek & Star Wars kits that I didn't photo because they are packed away right down the back and too hard to get to So enough of my portion of the national debt, lets see yours Quote

CosmicSpore Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) Argh... You're a show-off. *cries in loneliness without those models* If I had all those, I would be the happiest guy on earth.... at least until a new one came out. But seriously... are you thinking about selling any? Or are you actually going to put them all together? I'm sure there are a lot of people here that would be willing to, eh... help you clean out the closet? Edited September 30, 2008 by CosmicSpore Quote
Berttt Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 man that would have to be one of the most complete macross collections in Oz. I thought I was doing well but I'll have to tip my hat good man Berttt Quote
cobywan Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Fah! I've got a closet and storage unit full of unbuilt kits. The hobby of model building has a notorious reputation for turning into model kit collecting. Quote
Kylwell Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Those Wave Fenics kits are horribly engineered. Nice parts, but lousy engineering. Closet is full, overhead rack is full, shelves are full... actually starting to sell stuff off that I know I'll never get to. Quote
007-vf1 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) To me is the realization that, because I have a modeling addiction, I could have used the money to buy another motorcycle, take a trip to a few countries to Europe or pay a few semesters at college instead... In the end I can't complaint because building them (whenever I have the time to) makes me happy and keeps me away from ever more harmful stuff like drugs, women and sex.....oh, and driving 70 mph to work because I took too long putting greeblies on my fine molds x-wing.. MechTech Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 The Gunny obviously HATES the Hase kits ! Let's just say I have a walk in closet full of models and a few clothes (my half). I can only wear one thing at a time anyhow . I keep my kits in giant plastic boxes to protect and easily move them around. The last two moves were easy! Just grab and go! - MT Quote
miriya Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 This is very impressive. All that rare resin stuff is great. Good luck on buliding all this in this lifetime. Quote
Kelsain Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Who dies with the most kits, wins. That's apparently how my Grandpa felt. Some roof work after his death lead to the discovery of his stash: 1/24 scale classic cars all the way to the rafters, all the way around the house. My Dad and I seem to be hoarders as well. I think it's genetic... Quote
CosmicSpore Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Who dies with the most kits, wins. Actually, I think the real winners there are their heir or whoever buys out their estate at the auction. Hoarding + modelling = Quote
PetarB Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 This thread makes me angry. Models are made to be built, and proudly displayed. Just imagine if you were a model, knowing you could be assembled, lovingly painted and put on show to the world through photography and display. Then some meanie goes and keeps you in the dark all these years... For the record, I only buy models I know I will build. I have a backlog of a dozen. Quote

It reminds me of Toy Story 2 with Jesse and Stinky Pete who were in boxes for so long waiting to go on display at the konichi toy museum in Japan. I feel guilty too. I am working as fast as I can on my kits and do plan to build them all but still feel bad about them sitting in my tools closet. Quote

Gabe Q Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 It's just that, if you don't buy them when they're released, they'll sell out. If you wait until later, you'll have to pay through the nose to get them. And that's only if you can find the kit... That's why my collection is so big. Quote
thegunny Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Enough talk of big collections, full closets & cupboards. Talks cheap let's see them . Show me the money (or kits in this case) I intend to one day make most of them. It's a matter of space to dispaly them really and with around 100 or so in storage waiting for some display space to become available I'll have to do a major shuffle of the cabinets. It doesn't help that I've become a bit lazy over the past few years and have brought more toys than I should have that are taking up the space. I also collect the kits for other reasons. The way they are thought out, the box art, the instructions just to name a few. Grab 'em while you can is my motto. Why miss out or pay twice as much years down the track Yep plastic tubs are the go. That's why I was sorting through them, pack 'em, rack 'em & stack 'em. Quote

thegunny Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 How about some pics of the display cabinet? All my cabinets are full of toys at the moment (damn things cost so much thought I might as well show them off for a while). I have just had a rush of blood and have finished 3 Moscato destroids, a couple of Armorcast mechs and a few Gundam kits so once they are painted (weather not too painting friendly down here at the moment) I'll certainly get some pics up. The destroids might upset a few purists though as they will be painted in battletech colours. Quote

That's why my collection is so big. you're right, who knows how long it takes to have the new batch. I usually order two MG at a time, or more if they are on sales. Hasegawa Macross kits I have at least three of each with exceptions of the vf-1 fighters. I guess half of my stuffs are Gumdam - 80% MG, 10% HG, 10 % PG - I still have 6 w0 customer pg in boxes. and probably 6 pg zaku in boxes? need to do inventory again, I'm moving next month. The rest split between Macross and real world stuffs. I'd like to build them all, but working always get in the way. Quote
Gabe Q Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Here's my modest collection. It's grown considerably since I took this photo a few years back. I also have 2 of each Moscato Macross kit and the 1/72 Cat's Eye and Mike's 1/72 Monster... Quote
thegunny Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Very nice. Seeing your Bandai Valks reminded me that I have some missing kits to look for. Completely forgot about those as they were some of the first I brought many years ago, damn what have I done with them Quote

CosmicSpore Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I can understand having a dozen or so kits, maybe... some kits sell out fast. But how come most of you buy 2+ of the same kit? Do you REALLY think you're going to have to time to build each one more than once, or do you just enjoy staring at those boxes in your storage spaces? Even if I had all the money in the world, I still couldn't see myself buying more than 1 of each model, unless it was one of my favorites and I needed an extra one to practice on. Quote

thegunny Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 I have multiples of various kits as my intention is to recreate scenes from the TV show. For example I have 3 Valks & a Cat's Eye for ep 10 "Blind Game". The Valks are for Hikaru, Max & Hayao. I have more Valks to do Roy, Max fighting Millia's Q-Rau & to use with the Moscato boosters ffor ep 30 Viva Maria. I don't have many Supers or Strikes as they really didn't feature in the TV show and that's all I'm interested in as far as modeling is concerned. I have at least on of each other type or enough to do one of each of the main players. I only get singles of the kits from series that don't interest me (such as M Plus, M7 & M Zero and to a lesser extent MF) but they are still needed to complete the set Same thing goes for Patlabor. The same kit has parts to build all the different variants, so that's why I have multiples of them and some are originals. The Nadesico kits are doubled up because some are original issue and some are re-releases. Thank goodness most of the Gundam mecha are custom one off's Quote
MechTech Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Some of us need like 20 of a kit so we can fill up a massive model of the Daedalus. I get seconds to make various versions. Other kits I purchase just for parts! Don't worry, no Macross kits will be harmed I'll work on getting some pictures up. - MT Quote
big F Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 With the older kits I get two or more as a build one and keep one mint in box type thing. Quote
