JustinStrife Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) All right then...bring on the gekijouban! And for everyone who thinks that the movie will resolve the love triangle, I have two words and a number for you: Macross Dynamite 7. I'm still on a super high from this episode... Dude. You cannot be serious. Worst ending ever...? Unsuccessful Sheryl-shipper is unsuccessful. I'd say what I really think about your post, but I'd get banned. Every single argument i've posted was seperate from the triangle. Can you guys not get it? Hello? Read what I'm freaking typing if you're capable of it. My complaints about this episode had NOTHING to do with the triangle, and everything to do with the execution, and the sloppy way they tied all the sub-plots up in 20 minutes, when they should have just extended the story for a 2nd season. God you guys are clueless. This episode was a trainwreck. After three watches of it, I feel like I should be hitting some serious drugs to finish me off. Once again. It wasn't about the lack of resolve on the love triangle. Get it? Mecha pron to the max, but slashing up a story, does not make for a good ending. Edited September 27, 2008 by JustinStrife
Alastar Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Wouldn't surprise me if the entire Galaxy militairy is there. It is. You gotta remember that everyone in the Galaxy fleet had the cybernetic implants and Grace had control over all of them just like Bera.

I don't believe I said that you hated the episode BECAUSE of the unresolved love triangle. That wasn't my intention, but I guess I can see why you thought that.

I honestly don't see how everything was rushed, as you purport/imply. Please elaborate on how these sub-plots were sloppily tied together.
ShizumaRobo Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Worst ending episode for a Macross story ever. Someone hasn't watched Macross Zero.
ShizumaRobo Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 It seems like a lot of people are split on the ending. Some loved it. (Raises hand) and some hated it for not resolving the triangle. Personally, I think if Alto chose someone, fans would still be pissed off. The losing side would be hating the ending just as much. No matter the result of the love triangle, I don't think everyone could have been happy. Also, I think Kawamori meant for the triangle to be a joke. Much like he pranked us on the implied death of Ozma. In fact, judging by the Openings, I think he was only making fun of the love triangle aspect. Frontier mirrored a lot of the original Macross series, however he turned a lot of traditional elements on its head, and kept the show from being predictable. In a way, I thought it made sense that Alto chose flying over the girls. As a character he seemed to have way too many issues to pursue a relationship yet.

Kawamori isn't exactly a conventional romance fan, by any means. (Sorry, but I'm still amused by the memories of the fanwank over Escaflowne the Movie, when it ended JUST LIKE THE ANIME with no pairing.) Someone else said something about possible duplicate ova endings for this to be released... I kind of want to see a MacrossF dating sim type scenario in addition to the two possible OVAs. I bet it would be quite lucrative!! <3 Edit: Watching this again on the hi qual, I picked out lots of recycled animation. :-/ Edited September 27, 2008 by s-girl
Gubaba Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Was that an avatar or the actual grace who Alto shot in the queen's head? That's a REEEEEAAAAL good question... I was under the impression that there was no "actual Grace" anymore, merely a collective consciousness in a puppet body. That said, if her "operators" were stupid enough to all be in the same place at that same time, and that place happened to be Battle Galaxy...then yes, she's dead.

Watching back, I see shadow figures behind her at one point when she integrates... therefore, I also think they were blown up too... although I suppose that's mostly inferred because in theory one can always argue that someone didn't escape if there was ever a desire to do a sequel.
Duke Togo Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I honestly don't see how everything was rushed, as you purport/imply. Please elaborate on how these sub-plots were sloppily tied together. Did you watch the episode, Oihan?

I agree with you, the triangle doesn't bother me either. Kinda figured no one would end up together. I don't think anyone has ended up together in a Macross story since the original. Well, ok, Shin and Sara in Zero.
tankf77 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Hi guys, I have great reservations that the "Vajra superqueen" is really their queen in the first place. It looks like a PC based APHOS. Of course, it doesn't seem to make much sense because if it is PC based, how can it control the Vajra? On the other hand, if it is Vajra, how can it be "piloted" by Grace. Any takers??
Beltane70 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 The worst ending in Macross is Macross II.
Duke Togo Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Hi guys, I have great reservations that the "Vajra superqueen" is really their queen in the first place. It looks like a PC based APHOS. The Protoculture admired, and perhaps even worshiped the Vajra. The APHOS was built to resemble the Vajra queen. Made in her image, so to speak. You'll see when the subs come out.
Nexx Stalker Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Someone hasn't watched Macross Zero. Nah, the word you are searching for is "Evangelion".
Duke Togo Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Nah, the word you are searching for is "Evangelion". I think he's right, Zero definitely beats out II for worst ending.

Shaka_Z Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 geez... am I the only one here who was both enthralled by the final ep and disgusted that it all wrapped up so quickly? honestly, I loved how the series wrapped it's more important plot points up, but still think they should have had at least 11 to 14 more eps to give all the plot points decent service before the finale. the material was certainly there to support a 36-39 episode series, and they could have had at least one more OST release out of it. the amount of money they missed out on making is simply staggering oh well... at least we now know what sheryl's hair looks like when she isn't excercising control over it thanks to her bird-human blood type - I have every confidence that her multi-spectral hair is natural... just not her default setting ^^. so Ranka isn't the only one with el neato hair abilities...
Gubaba Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I believe they were there with her. God, no...I can see it now: Macross F Part II: The Return of Grace Macross F Part III: The Death of Grace Macross F Part IV: Grace Lives! Macross F Part V: Grace: The Final Chapter Macross F Part VI: Grace: A New Beginning And so and so forth...
Shaka_Z Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I also happen to have every confidence that the rest of GA is out there somewhere, whether or not grace was eliminated. it is very unlikely that they would have bothered to be onsite for the big show when they could just be there virtually.
SpacePirateNeko Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 *hopes gg sub comes out tonight so it would cap a nice opening weekend* Im waiting on the sub before i watch..its killing me heh
grss1982 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 OMG I just realized something...THE 11TH FLEET IS WHERE KAIFUN LIVES! WHY DIDN'T THE VAJRA KILL KAIFUN!!! DAMN!!!! I'm currently watching SDFM right now, I'm up to Episode 25, and after watching that many the only thing I wanted in that series was DEAD Kaifun. But, alas it was not meant to be. I hate it when punks like him get to live after SW1. The best scene of this episode BTW, what happened to Dulfim? WOW!!! That image totally screams....pwn3d!!!!
RedWolf Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 The Protoculture admired, and perhaps even worshiped the Vajra. The APHOS was built to resemble the Vajra queen. Made in her image, so to speak. You'll see when the subs come out. There's that. As I've said in another thread while the Mayan origin story is an analogy of our evolution influenced by the Protoculture. It does not mean it is the same for the Protoculture. Their animism beliefs involving fold capable species. (The Anima Spiritia?) The Vajra are their Birdman while Vahl Ena or Space Whales are the Fishman. While the AHPOS bears a resemblance to the Vajra queen, Zentran warships' organic design aesthetic is reminicent of Space Whales. On Zola the ancient Ancestor writings on Whale bones in the Whale cemetary indicate the Zolans ancestors revered the Great White Whale as a god who cannot die. Existing for millions of years. Those ancestral writings and illustration could very well be Protoculture itself recording the Vahl Ena migration. Also note that the three eyed Zolan snake which is always around a Zolan's neck bears a resemblance to the Vajra larva. Zolan snakes could be legacy of the Protoculture to the Zolans. Since Zolan snakes are telepathic and inteligent enough to read ancient writing.
Duke Togo Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Isamu and Myung, just to name two. They may have, but they also may have simply rekindled their friendship. There really isn't exactly alot of romance between them in Plus.
Duke Togo Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 The Vajra are their Birdman while Vahl Ena or Space Whales are the Fishman. See, I really like this idea. Adds some mythology to the Protoculture.
RedWolf Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 See, I really like this idea. Adds some mythology to the Protoculture. But Whales aren't fish, neither are Space Whales mammals. I remember Elma's confusion when Basara says Whales swim and Basara's confusion that Whales are in space.
sucker4meltrans Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I think Captain Perry should sue Battle 25's radar crew for not being able to locate Battle Galaxy and be fooled by a hologram... Ah, Kawamori san, why? On a side note, why Leon had to kill the president? I can understand Grace and Galaxy, but Leon's plan was like, kinda, superfluous. If he (like it seems) wanted to install a dictatorship, he would have failed miserably: he organized a coup d'etat without the support of the high commanding officers relying only on the help of soldiers and grunts! No surprise the officers on Battle Frontier Bridge (all except Leon's aide) arrested him. Least but not last. Why Macross 11??? I understand that it's there just to let us see that the Vajra are attacking all the colonization fleets, but why not Macross 7 then? it would have been a nice homage. Thus said, despite all the enormous plotholes, I really liked the ending. I think I even got up of the chair in complete awe when the destroids bombed Galaxy's main cannon. Daedalus attack! macross 11 is on galactic rim far far away from the vajra planet. it was shown to show how fast and far the vajra could reach.
Macross1982 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Did anybody notice how the blush came back to Luca's cheeks when Ozma called him skull 3???
daeudi Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Did anybody notice how the blush came back to Luca's cheeks when Ozma called him skull 3??? Shame at being a cowardly traitor and a corporate sellout, no doubt.
panpo98 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 S.M.S. side efect??? Everyone Remember Mikael then talking about the dead SMS but what about the third Pixie.
MisaForever Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 O.M.F.G.!!!!!!! O.M.F.G!!!!!!!! Ok, that was just............. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, it was fast paced but........ WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Macross Quarter Battle Frontier Macross Galaxy Grace Alien Thingee GOOD GOD!!!!!!!! It was just so beautiful!!!! AND I'VE ONLY SEEN THE RAW!!!!!!!
Macross_Fanboy Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) Smoking hot! I wish they released the fansubs earlier, but for now, the animation quality was top notch, I wish they killed Leon and I wish we got to see Grace go out like Bodolza from DYRL? One thing that kicked ass too was the music, damn it was some of the best ever in Macross lore. I liked how they showed the SDF-1, although I would have preferred that they showed City 7. Haha. Minmay made an appearance in a ring, which was something I think would have been left out seeing how Bilrer doesn't appear much or say much. Anyways, all we have to wait for now is the next Macross with more mech porn. EDIT: Also, about damn time they showed the Koenig Monster in Destroid mode! It took get its leg blown off for it to happen! Edited September 27, 2008 by Macross_Fanboy
Macross_Fanboy Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Oh yeah, I don't know if it's been mentioned yet since I don't wanna go through all those pages, but what do you guys supposed that thing is that Brera saw after he got out of the VF-27? It looks Birdman-ish. Hmm...where did this talk of a movie come from? I'm interested and I keep listening closely to the Vajra to see if that sounds anything like Mari Ijima. Well after watching it one more time, I heard them screaming as they took the beam hit from the Super Queen.
tankf77 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 There's that. As I've said in another thread while the Mayan origin story is an analogy of our evolution influenced by the Protoculture.
