Gubaba Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 he could kiss her forhead or cheek and leave as a promise to make it through to kiss an actually awake Nanase... As other people have said, at least he didn't pull a Shinji (so to speak). He loves her. He kissed her. Big deal. No harm, no foul...right? Speaking as Macrossworld's self-proclaimed official Nanasist, I deem it all a-okay. Now we just have to wait until Shun, Dante, and SkullLeader VF-X throw in their six cents, and B.O.I.N.G. will have spoken. Quote

Gubaba Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Sheryl looked the best she's ever looked this episode. Pretty much EVERYONE looked the best they ever have in this episode. While the character animation wasn't the greatest, the designs in this episode danced like jewels. Quote

zathras Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) my hope is that Sheryl walks away from the camera as she's very distraught of Alto's death and gets far enough from the bridge before the Breara shoots the bridge of Battle Frontier...it's more than likely Grace will order Breara to kill Leon by shooting the bridge of the Battle Frontier... as for Alto, the VF17's has a cockpit pods just like the VF11s...i can only assume that's how Alto survives...the cockpit pod disengages from the nosecone of the VF171EX... does anyone think that Sarah might still alive in the Birdman protodevlin from Macross Zero... mac666er Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) So... Michel dies a heroic death for one of the hottest/baddest babes, who happens to be cute as hell as well. No hesitation, no doubt, no nonsense. And we get to swallow it all. We got a so-so animation of what should have been the greatest Meltran show-off of how to kick a** since Milia Falina gave hell to the fools that dared crossed her path... And in this episode Alto "bites the dust" in a very suspicious way, he wasn't defending anyone, he wasn't giving his 110% and we get to see Sheryls' pain... by crying? What the hell?? No one has valor anymore?? Ranka and Sheryl are just b***ing around, drowning in self pity and feeling sorry for themselves I don't want Michel to comeback as that would just be lame but, I demand that Alto has a thick metal rod in his skull, a dismembered body and no surviving mind whatsoever. And also, I want Ozma to kick Leon's (God that is an awful hair-do!) and Grace's (or whatever that thing finally turns out to be) behinds with no mercy. And comeback and take Cathy on his Super Valkyrie riding into the sunset... As to what happens to Nanase and Luca, well, I no longer care I wish things were easier for klan And no, I wasn't the guy who voted against the episode, I actually liked it. Very good visuals. So many improvements over Macross 7. Enough trolling, back to my cave. Edited September 19, 2008 by mac666er Quote

Keith Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) In regards to DYRL references http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?show...mp;#entry623086 I also think it's pretty safe to assume at this piont that tiny holo-Mao in Shin's cockpit was mao tapping into the fold network, one mystery solved at least. I kinda get the feeling that the end of this series will lead into a future Macross series with bio/vajra evolved variable fighters, and I honestly don't know how I feel about that. As long as they still look like cool as Valkyries, I suppose i'd deal. Awesome episode, and I'd be surprised if Alto was doing anything but pulling a Gamlin, the purpose of him being a Kabuki actor couldn't have simply been so he can wear an earring...? Yup, though I'm not sure if I can forsee the advantages for such a thing yet. But we'll see. Also a hardy kick in the pants at myself for not seeing that Wilder is the Britai of this series, he has one freakin eye, it was sooo obvious! Quote

LOL, that would be funny as all hell at this piont if Sara & Shin popped up, that would make him the (living) pilot with the worst luck in the whole franchise. Though i wish Kawamori would break that pattern of abandoning main characters just once. Quote

sdf2501 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 There's way too much good stuff here to mention. If I was live blogging this, you would have seen my jaw on the floor when Ranka started singing THAT song (and really liked this version too: ai oboete imasu ka ~ bless the little queen). I think it's quite obvious that Leon doesn't care about anyone; why would anyone order Island 1 into the battle? When Max was Captain of Battle 7, he'd do his darnest to ensure that City 7 didn't see any harm. What a prick. And absolutely loved the next episode preview. What a nice touch. This has been a great ride and I look forward to seeing how it all ends. Quote
sdf2501 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Oh, and by the way, I'm sure Alto's just "acting" dead... And I think I finally know the reason why so many VF-171s were shown to be blown up; they needed to build up the stock footage for this episode! Quote
Morpheus Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I think it's quite obvious that Leon doesn't care about anyone; why would anyone order Island 1 into the battle? When Max was Captain of Battle 7, he'd do his darnest to ensure that City 7 didn't see any harm. What a prick. He ordered Island 1 to land on the planet when he thought Vajra defense line are broken. He did this probably since he know that Island 1 is in critical condition (low on oxygen and stuff), leaving Island 1 may provoke Vajra attack while the main fleet is busy in the front. The fact that the entire fleet fold to Vajra homeworld and the other island are used as shield for island 1 show that this is Leon gambit to ensure Frontier survival. Quote
panpo98 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) Interesting, can you take a screenshot of it? Is it just me or this episode reminds me of Mospeada where the Mars base are attempting to free Earth? The Spiral zone (yeah, Spiral Zone, get it? lol) is similiar to the Invid Hive, and in the end the Mars fleet is swarmed and destroyed, just like Frontier. This episode again has proven that Alto has failed as a man. Does he want to save Ranka or kill her? And what about Sheryll? I was shocked. The second half of the episode was pure culture shock. I had no ide how the Zentradi felt until Ranka started. Deffinently reminds me of Macross 1 DYRL, Macross 2 and the first Macross series battle with Boldolsaa's fleet. Even after reading spoilers and predicting that it would be like this it was still shocking seeing that they went so far. Frontier is now the bad guys. Frontier seemed to be as chocked as I was that the Varja (or rather Grace blaming it on the Varja) did that against us (Frontier). Felt like seeing Macross 1 DYRL with the story told from the Zentradi side and realizing that we are losing the same way we won in DYRL. I could feel people on Frontier thinking "How dare enemy use that song against us" after they tried to overcome the initial shock. The thing with Alto reminded me of what happened in the first Macross series in the battle against Boldolsaa's fleet there the hero got hit with a missile swarm and still survived. I am sure Alto had an auto ejection system. Edited September 19, 2008 by panpo98 Quote

aerocombatpilot Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Incidentally... anyone else incredibly uncomfortable when Luca is kissing a comatose Nanase right on the lips? If he'd kissed her on the cheek or forehead, it would have been sweet. Instead, he just got creepier. Heck no! As a matter of fact, I'd give him a York Peppermint Pattie for NOT COPING A FEEL! Luca is a stand-up kind of guy! Quote

wolfx Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Ok i got my friend to translate the scene on the SMS bridge with more detail....i was quite off. Sorry bout that - SMS gang were talking about how Grace intends to enslave humanity by using the fold and implant network. - for it to work, ALL humans must be installed with the implant, which might be near impossible. - thus the Vajra are needed to enforce this implantation - as Ranka is the only person able to communicate with the Vajra, she will be used by Grace & Co. to enforce implants on everybody. So, no revelation was released on the motives of the Vajra YET. Quote

So the next episode, we'll see alto free-falling towards the planet in his ex-gear, he'll wake up and realize that he can't go back up anymore as the war rages in space, continue downward until he hears Ranka calling to him telepathically. then he'll find ranka, rescue her, and bring her back to the planet's surface and.... wait a minute... i don't like where this is going...
