I didn't repost this one because it didn't seem like there was much of difference between polls 1 2 and 3. Although, perhaps we'll see a big jump in Klan's numbers as she's gotten a lot of screentime, Sheryl very little, and Ranka's gotten a lot of hate. Or will Nanase perhaps get a strong showing of sympathy vote?

It's kind of hard just picking one. I voted for Sheryl, but I really have to say KlanKlan has really developed on screen for me the last few episodes. In particular, I have enjoyed watching her and Michael...and how I think she has helped push other characters along , with and without Michael.

THere aren't a lot of those kinds of characters on this show that really get others to change and develop directly as opposed to indirectly (manipulation, killing, fighting).

KlanKlan (like Michael) has been a good influence on Alto and Sheryl. SO I like her lots.

Brera has been a pretty good influence on Ranka too. He seems to calm her and support her. So... no poll for guys, but I see him as a good character to have around.

Anyways KK better not bite it. That would really piss me off....

Ranka is at the very bottom.

Gosh, really? And here I thought you were one of Ranka's biggest fans!

But really...could ANYONE be more predictable than you...?

Hmmm one guess who voted for Nanase.....

Um...um...

I plead the fifth.

Decided to say "screw it" and voted Ranka this time, as I've liked what they've been doing with her and know that she'll need it. up to episode 21 in consideration. First time I've voted for a lead.

Interesting to see all the Grace votes this time. I remember when I was the only Grace fan ^_^;; (on that note, finally got around to adding her to the avy.)

I've been told I'm extremely predictable. I prefer to be called consistent.

Really, if you were trying to insult me with that statement, you failed miserably.

Should Raramia really still be included on the poll? It's unlikely that she's going to show up in the last five episodes...

If I were, would I have included the second part of my post...?

Former Sheryl voter here - I liked her style and the fact that she seemed the most "developed" character, personality-wise, where the other candidates seemed to have a lot of growing up to do.

Now voting Klan, of all people - and amazed that a series could change my opinion like it has, since I usually have good character judgement right off the bat when I watch a show. It probably comes off as a sympathy vote considering recent episodes, but I really do feel she's demonstrated some depth that wasn't apparent earlier on.

oh come on Grace is a porno cliche, put her hair down take off the glasses and remove the buisness suit and she goes from mousey to sex kitten

That's not just a porn cliche...check out the bookstore girl in The Big Sleep or Sharon Tate in The Wrecking Crew (who is BAR NONE the finest "librarian who takes off her glasses and becomes a sex bomb" in all of world cinema), to cite only two examples.

That said, most of them don't turn out to be completely and utterly evil, and most of them don't end up having tentacles, either.

Dang, you saw The Big Sleep too! I thought I was the only one (being a big Bogart fan) who ever saw it!! Bogart aside, Grace is a good looking character, she has a nice design; I wish the character designer had spent more time on others!

Sheryl, duh. Klan and Grace are moving up in my books took in the last 5 eps.

It took time for some of us to realize Grace's...er..um...Finer points!! ^_^

Can't believe it took people so long to come around to Grace... not to mention her VA can do an sexy evil voice very nicely... as shown by her being the final boss I-No in Guilty Gear XX.

All the more reason to be proud to be one of her original fans. Oh, and not all look better with the loose hair and no glasses. Those can work quite nicely.

I do believe that I voted for her in the first poll as well - I always thought she was hot although that was before I knew about the "evil, tentacles, and multiple personalities" part. These days I'm in camp Sheryl.... ^_^

Nanase's new look after getting out of the hospital might drop her appeal to the fans.

I'LL KILL YOU FOR THAT!!! YOU DIE!! YOU GO TO HELL AND YOU DIE!!!

(Actually, thet's pretty good...but I do have a reputation to uphold. :p )

Indeed, which is why I say "one of". Actually, it's the other sides that make it interesting. Especially since she started as a one dimensional background character I fully expected to play no role in the plot. It's not all about looks to me, which is probably part of why I'm not in the Sheryl camp. ;)

As for Nanase, everyone knows she's probably going to sport Nice Holystone eyepatch hotness. Though probably without the Balalaika scars and Minnie May bomb fetish.

Besides, everyone know her "appeal" has nothing to do with her face... ^_^

In romance, plot is secondary to character development. While characters like Grace certainly add flavor to the story, they tend to lose some of their lustre when their mystery wears away; that's probably why she's never in the forefront of any scene for very long. Keep in mind that "Just as planned" really only works insofar as the audience isn't actually aware what the plan actually is.

But don't let that stop you from enjoying her character. There's nothing wrong with being taken in by appearances. ;)

Umm.. okay. I don't entirely see what you're getting at, but right. Of course any mysterious character looses something when the mystery is gone. Though if done well, it can deepen their character on repeated watchings. Just take the Emperor from Code Geass. Much more interesting now that one understands his motivations and can appreciate how he acts with a regardless of them. Though it's not just the mystery that makes her interesting. MF is also obviously not a romance by that definition, given that character development has always taken a backseat to plot, at least in quality. Romance is a key part, or more so "affections" rather than outright "romance", but the triangle is pretty wretched at the moment in my opinion and Sheryl's character is a bit all over the place right now. I'm big on chara development too, so it's surprising for me to admit that. Though depth isn't everything.

We haven't been given all that much to go by, with respect to Grace's character. Again, the mystery of her character gives the appearance of masking something more complex, but until her character is developed, it remains nothing more than an appearance.

I think one of the problems surrounding her character is that she's repeatedly been used as a plot device to initiate events in the story. Overall, I get less of a feeling that her actions are driven by a unified purpose so much as they act as a means for the writers to periodically inject mayhem into the lives of the characters. Not that she needs to do much more, of course; "evil for the sake of being evil" will often suffice for motivation when the villain isn't meant to be the centerpiece of the story.

MF is also obviously not a romance by that definition, given that character development has always taken a backseat to plot, at least in quality. From what I've seen, MF's greatest strength lies in the way in which it communicates the emotions of the characters; not simply through dialogue, but through subtle gesture and expression. Regardless of whether you approve of the way in which the various relationships between the characters have been explored or not, it's clear that there's a lot more detail that was put into portraying the characters.

Whether you prefer the plot to the characters is a different story altogether. ;)

Well... Klan going up to 2nd spot is to be expected... however IF Grace takes the 3rd... that'll certainly be interesting. *evil grin*

*looks to the left and right*

'Go! Gracie Go!'

*runs and hides before she gets killed by Ranka fans...*
