Save Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 http://zepy.momotato.com/2008/08/30/anime-...ness/#more-2318 An insightful article on how the anime business works, (the ones showing on late night slot, not prime time). I wonder how much "loss" is Frontier making prior to sales of DVDs and merchandise? Good read and yeah that stuff does happen. In Frontiers case so far all Music CDs have been selling better than could have ever been expected also all cd released have made the top 5 regular music charts which hasn't happed (for an anime soundtrack) since The End of Eva movie years ago. So BW looks to be in good standing as far as loss, plus Bandai is footing most of the bill and will get it back when the toys and other products get released. As far as Satalight the studio doing the actual anime its primary core of business is pachinko games and that is were allot of money is spent in Japan so they are for sure not hurting. Quote
wolfx Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Ahh good point about the OSTs! Forgot about them. Frontier's animation was really lacking comparatively to other big titles of the season and with inclusion of 3D CGI i guess they had a really tight budget to work with. Perhaps they weren't so optimistic in how much money they were going to make back since Macross was considered niche after all. That said i hope the bluray editions fix those really bad episodes like the panty chasing one. Quote
Hiriyu Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Although Macross is a niche market, the new series will perhaps bring a new crowd into the "fold"... Just take a look at the weekly Frontier episode threads here for evidence of this - most of the posters seem to be newly reg'd. I'd say that it's definitely brought new people into the fold, at least here at MW. I'd have to imagine that the same is true in the domestic market. Quote
1/1 LowViz Lurker Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I remember a few years ago someone complaining that no one could watch the old macross in his anime club due to it's oldish style. People will only watch new stuff. So just by having a new show at all is going to help the franchise overall. It's all up to those otakus to keep the fanbase alive. Quote
