Ahab Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) Thanks! I'm really proud of it! Had wanted this kit for a long time, and it was a sheer joy to build! My methods will seem quite "backwoods" to this forum, im sure, but I use the water decals and seal them with clear nailpolish. I then seal the entire kit with aerosol hairspray. It takes all of my hobby funds just to purchase the kits, so I have to go to "grass roots" for my materials. The painting was minimal, thanks to the multicolor molding of the kit except for the cockpit and pilot. I am posting links to the battroid mode which will be the final display state. Hey Man, whatever works! Looks cool. Edited January 31, 2011 by Ahab
electric indigo Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Making some progress on this bird. Excellent kit from Hobby Boss, but needs putty at the front landing gear bay, nose cone and intakes, the latter are delicate since you don't want to loose too much surface details trying to sand the intakes flush with the fuselage. I had to scribe some new lines there. And I just received the new Cartograph decals for it from Skyraider Model Designs (www.smds.ws).

It looks like one of the naval jets that appear in 1 episode?
electric indigo Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Is that plane in the background from Yukikaze? It looks like one of the naval jets that appear in 1 episode? Yes, that's the 1/72 Platz garage kit. HLJ still has it: http://www.hlj.com/product/PLZX-11
electric indigo Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 The 27 will be build in fixed fighter mode; I'm still trying to find a convenient breakdown. Rafale is waiting for decals.
Jefuemon Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I broke my own rule about not building a newer kit before I get through the old ones. However, this one is just too pretty to sit on the shelf for the next 2 years. This kit goes together like a dream. I'm even having to forcibly separate parts when I'm just test fitting, it's fitting together so well.
derex3592 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Weather down here in TX FINALLY cleared up so I could paint and finish this....FineMolds 1:48 scale Tie Fighter. Very simple kit. If the weather had been better, could have built this in a weekend easy. Went together well, no real problems, aside from not having any Tamiya Fine Surface Primer. Used cheap car primer...paint airbrushed on ok, but feels "rougher" than usual to the touch. Whatever, I didn't do any of the very small, very plain decals included, as all the reference pics I looked at , I couldn't see any. Maybe when eFX releases it's Studio Scale, I'll see what they came up with. Didn't really do any weathering or panel lining either as I liked the look of it as is. Kinda clean and "Imperial". At some point, I would like to do another weathered, battle damaged Tie...I think that would be fun! One could argue that the dimensions of the thing are a little "wonky"?? from the scenes in ANH...especially the front canopy part, but I'm nitpicking..it's a cool addition. Anyway, here's a few pics. I really hope Finemolds continues the 1:48 Star Wars line, I really like it. Next up--the 1:48 Rebel Snowspeeder!
derex3592 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) thanks! here is a few pics of a side project I've been working on. Figure painting is my LEAST favorite thing to do EVER, but I've decided to try to get better, so with that, I had this Kamjin/Khyron in a box for years and years, he came with the model of his ship. So, I finally decided to paint him and stick him in my display case. All painted by hand, and he was just one big chuck of resin?? I think he turned out pretty well. electric indigo Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Almost there. I just need to customize a pilot.
PetarB Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Oh that looks gorgeous Roman, I can't believe how all the surface detail is rendered in that model.
PetarB Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) Here's a teaser for my next SSF product... Edited February 18, 2011 by PetarB
electric indigo Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Here's a teaser for my next SSF product... Hmm, that doesn't look like Crusher Joe at all...
Ghost Train Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 I took a 3 month long break from my NCC-1701 Refit project, but now getting back on track. Have some areas in the saucer that I need to touch up and fix but I love how it's turning out. I'm also trying some pre-shading, as you can see from the engineering hull, they have a stunning effect on model planes, but not sure how they would turn out on ~300m Heavy Cruiser... but I think it looks ok .
jardann Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Lookin' good Ghost. Is that the R2 1/1000 kit?
derex3592 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Taking a break from Star Wars stuff---Gonna try my hand at a 1:72 Ban Dai Spartan (since Yamato more than likely will never do a 1:60) and my first ever resin model!
Kylwell Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 More, including construction pics, here. Congrats on your win, that's a beautiful build.
Ghost Train Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Lookin' good Ghost. Is that the R2 1/1000 kit? It's the Round 2 & Polar Lights 1/1000.
PetarB Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Congrats on your win, that's a beautiful build. Thanks - it took me about an hour to realise that not only did I win for this as a scratchbuild, but I also came first in the kit build as well! And I have to say there was some tough competition. The cool part was - it was a lot of fun.
505thAirborne Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Still a ways to go on this one, but just been really busy these past weeks. The Decals I found detail wise are awesome, quality wise they are ultra delicate and need serious care to make them just right. still need to get decals that are in white, light grey just does not work, this one will be from the PEGASUS, So say we all.
Smegalot Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 It's been 2 years scince I have had a chance to really build anything, so my skills are a bit rusty, but here is my latest, VF-0S. Still have a bit more to practice with the water slides before I am back to what I used to be. And no where are good as some of the other models that have been shown. Also figuring out the airbrush use properly...Am loving it though.
RogueTrooper Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Revell 1/144 F-104 Ferrari Starfighter, not the usual grey low-viz i paint so i made one aswell.
Ahab Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Revell 1/144 F-104 Ferrari Starfighter, not the usual grey low-viz i paint so i made one aswell. I've always had a soft spot for the F-104. My grandfather was a crew chief at Luke AFB before the F-15 and 16's came in. He'd bring us(my brother and I) out to the flightline in the evenings to watch the 104's take off. Ah, the memories.... Great job on the models!
thegunny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 to watch the 104's take off. Ah, the memories.... Don't you mean crash & burn Nice models. I like the Ferrari version, means it can crash & burn faster
jardann Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Love the "manned missiles!" They both look great, especially the red. But to me the 104 is truly glorious in the polished natural metal. An amazing performance machine. You've got some great detail on those little kits. Good work!
shinagami Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) More, including construction pics, here. love it man, love homeworld....and congrats. any plan to mass produce this? ....any future plans for other spacecrafts from homeworld series? Edited March 8, 2011 by shinagami
electric indigo Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Finished the Rafale, but need to do another photo setup. Great kit from Hobby Boss, highly recommended.
505thAirborne Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 That is one impressive looking Rafale, awesome work electric indigo!

thegunny Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 This showed up in the mail yesterday. Stop or I'll kwai you to death! Pretty easy build. The longest parts were waiting for the paint to dry. Lot of pre-painted parts. They are removed from sprue painted then put in separate plastic bags. There is still a bit of painting to be done to make it look right.
Urashiman Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Currently working on the Hasegawa VF-0S. Will be a really slow build, because work kills most of my freetime :/
