505thAirborne Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Oh - I should have re-posted the pic since it was back a few pages. Can someone give a link to where this was talked about originally? I want to make this very talented soul an offer to custom build me one . . . That GARFISH Ship And Fighter escort display is awesome, If I had the money, I would find a way to get one!!!
Major Focker Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Oh - I should have re-posted the pic since it was back a few pages. Can someone give a link to where this was talked about originally? I want to make this very talented soul an offer to custom build me one . . . it was mentioned here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=751944 and also on page 25 of this thread. what i want to know is where to get the small fighters. micro-machines made them? i'm going to track them down, so if anyone got leads, appreciate them.
Major Focker Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Thanks. Go check out Lee (Ralphee) and Allan's (Imaginager) builds at RPF, they're into the detailing stage now and their builds are amazing. Re your question, it depends on how big a Transport really is. I suspect 1/96 is more likely but I could be wrong. It's about 2'6" long. man, that's huge! definitely too big for a hoth base dio. unfortunately, the transport that came with the hoth base set is too small, something like 1:350. cool site by the way (rpf), first time i've heard of it. didn't manage to find the thread about the transport though. what was the thread title? Cool rebel transport and sounds ruddy huge! What does RPF stand for? Max's VF-1S DYRL version, chara works valks with black leg line in wrong postion again, can't belive i did not notice that again before i applied the precious white UN spacey decal. the replica forum (therpf.com). didn't know there was a VF-1S max in the chara set. was that the secret? from set 1 or 2? or did you repaint? looks nice despite the flaws you pointed out.
neptunesurvey Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 it was mentioned here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=751944 and also on page 25 of this thread. what i want to know is where to get the small fighters. micro-machines made them? i'm going to track them down, so if anyone got leads, appreciate them. The fighters where part of the Garfish project and where not from the micro-machine line.
Kremmen Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Cool rebel transport and sounds ruddy huge! What does RPF stand for? Max's VF-1S DYRL version, chara works valks with black leg line in wrong postion again, can't belive i did not notice that again before i applied the precious white UN spacey decal. Replica Props Forum. Good place for studio-scale modelling and, er...replica props. Like your Max. If you didn't point out the black line I might not have noticed! What scale are these guys?
Kremmen Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) man, that's huge! definitely too big for a hoth base dio. unfortunately, the transport that came with the hoth base set is too small, something like 1:350. cool site by the way (rpf), first time i've heard of it. didn't manage to find the thread about the transport though. what was the thread title? Lee's thread is under the Studio Scale section with the title "A Storm is Coming" (the ship is supposedly named the Quantum Storm apparently). Yeah, I have the little Hoth base dio kit - the Transport from that is sitting on my scanner right now. It's a surprisingly nice little piece though it's kinda half and half - good overall dimensions and shape, OK detail on the main hull parts, TERRIBLE detail everywhere else. A lot like the dio kit overall: good speeders, good X-wings, worst Y-wings EVER. Strange thing, obviously a mix of different pattern-makers at work! You could still do a dio base for a studio-scale transport...just not a very huge one. I'm sort of tempted actually. The other guys will probably do the panavise stand that's becoming de rigeur in the studio-scale community. Hmmm.... Edited June 9, 2009 by Kremmen
MaveRick Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) i dunno if it fits here.. since i only have my bed, rather than a workbench.. working on the electrical components of my ongoing scratch build.. Edited June 12, 2009 by MaveRick
ahiachris Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 i dunno if it fits here.. since i only have my bed, rather than a workbench.. working on the electrical components of my ongoing scratch build.. speechless... awesome work

Excillon Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 So what's next MaveRick? Maybe you should do a CMS scale SDF bridge...
cobywan Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I've gotten back to his bucket. I've finally finished the overall massing. I can focus on details now. Woo HOOO!!!
MaveRick Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 thanks guys... i may have to look for a permanent workbench since i just lost one of my sideline job (unfortunately).. so that means i'll have more free time to work on some upcoming projects i have in mind.. So what's next MaveRick? Maybe you should do a CMS scale SDF bridge... i'm contemplating of doing either of the two: Launch Bay or a second version of the launch arm.. this time fitted for the v2 1/60 valks and an entire section of the launch bay's opening
jardann Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Hly Frak Cobywan! That thing is looking very impressive! It's good to see you back at it.
Maiden Japan Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Let me show you my 1/100 scale Macross hanger I built last year. Just to help you out with some ideas.
Kylwell Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I've gotten back to his bucket. I've finally finished the overall massing. I can focus on details now. Woo HOOO!!! Oooohhhh.... pretty....
HWR MKII Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 I've gotten back to his bucket. I've finally finished the overall massing. I can focus on details now. Woo HOOO!!! All the rapid prototyping in the world cant match pure skill and talent man. Keep it up. I have been waiting for you to finish this thing.
MaveRick Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Maiden Japan: Ohhh... that is sick! great job.. i hope i could make one for myself soon!! cobywan: very nice build... i love the details
wm cheng Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I've gotten back to his bucket. I've finally finished the overall massing. I can focus on details now. Woo HOOO!!! OMG!! I'm speechless... that's amazing, it would be my wetdream to paint that!!! Wow, I definitely want to see it finished, how big is it? You wouldn't be making something like that of the old original big G would ya? Any resin copies coming out? ;-)
miriya Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Maiden Japan, That is awesome work there. Did this get displayed at the toynami booth somewhere? It looks familiar.
505thAirborne Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 What scale size or simply how big is that BATTLESTAR? It is frakin awesome!!!
Maiden Japan Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Maiden Japan, That is awesome work there. Did this get displayed at the toynami booth somewhere? It looks familiar. That is correct. That's the same display from SDCC last year.
cobywan Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Maiden Japan: Awesome diorama. I love the whole layout you've got going. Battlestar stuff: Thanks. The scale is 1:2500 and it's 22.5" long. I did use a lasercutter to make my sliced parts and the engine cones were made with a 3D CNC router. There is SOME styrene hand work, but not that much.
MechTech Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 (edited) OK, both the Macross bay scenes look great AND the Battlestar. I was just going to chill tonight, then I thought I'd see if anything new was happening. All I can say is, mad props all the way around guys! Awesome work! This is what was on my workbench, floor bed, all over the house. It's a refurbished recreation center with a U.S. Air Foce Heritage theme. Hats off to my wife for putting up with the "temporary" decor. This is what I spent the last couple of weeks doing. Just a FEW sample photos. I did most of the design, layout and artwork all the way around. You'll recognize the helmet. I could not have done it without some Godly intervention and some great people helping out! That is outstanding Mechtech... you've done a bang-up job organizing it and bringing it to life. Was this a hobby for you, or did you do it for work?
MechTech Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Thanks Noyhauser. In this case it was a job, but I had fun with it. I got to use most of my skills which was a challenge! - MT

AcroRay Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 My Moscato kit of Kamjin - mostly primed and mostly ready for painting. I had a tiny bit of puttying left to do last night, and primer shots for a couple of the sub-assemblies: The lower legs and all the the arm element aren't glued (only dry-fitted here), and won't be until painted because I don't want to have to fight the armor flanges while painting the inner knee, elbow and shoulder areas. The magnetic attachment system for the alternate heads is working nicely http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=30321! Its taken me far too long to get to this point, due only to limited building time. (John's kit really is so clean and well thought-out that it doesn't require much work other than cutting away the molding channels.) It also inspired me to get some nice Mr. Resin Surfacer (great stuff!) and upgrade my filler putty stock to Tamiya products John suggested, which I can apply later to the Yellow Sub DYRL Nosjadeul-Ger waiting on the shelf. I'm wondering what to do with the helmet's clear faceplate. I'm concerned that I might not tint it properly, and that it will cloud over time and obscure John's great sculpting in the helmet. I'm thinking I might just take half of it, or a corner, and make it look like the remains of glass smashed out in battle - resulting in the cut-like texture on his face near his nose. I'll have to decide on that pretty soon, since my plan is to start painting him this weekend.
optimator88 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 MechTech - Where do you live? I'm guessing it's not Japan. It looks like you have 3 washing machines!! Snack and soda machines? Does you wife keep them filled for you? Do you have beer on tap too??? You sir, are living the American dream. Please excuse me if I am being too nosey, I'm just impressed

I think it would distract too much. Just test a few pieces of clear with tint and wait to see what they do. Are you going to have him standing victorious over the burning mass of a 1A CF?

But it looks good because John's kit is so damn amazing. He's 1/72, but oddly only slightly larger than Imai's old 1/100 plastic kit of Kamjin in armor - the "Armored Space Suit" kit. I'm still inclined to do the broken glass. I could tint and wait on a piece of clear resin scrap, but it might not react the same way, and the long-term I'm concerned about would be a couple years at least. He'll be standing as-is, but I'm thinking of a simple base with something like deck plating looking like the inside of a Zentraedi battleship. I think he looks a little tired, but satisfied at the end a long day of destruction...! I don't think I have any pieces of 1/72 Battroid scrap in my parts bin anymore... unless anyone out there has an old Imai kit arm or leg to spare.

optimator88 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 No, the American Dream is Twin Megan Foxes! I just assumed they were both in the cabinets somewhere.
EXO Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 The series finished before you did Cobywan! haha... looks awesome though.
