sucker4meltrans Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 After Frontier wraps up the Vajra story arc it would be nice if they made a little 4-5 episode OVA to wrap up the fate of Hikaru, Misa, Minmei. They have been missing with the Megaroad-1 for almost half a century it would be nice to know what happened to them. They are the 3 most important characters in the Macross universe it would be nice to know they just didn't fold into a star or planet and go splat. Quote

As long as I've been here, someone (usually a newbie) always wants to see more Hikaru/Misa/Minmay after we've seeing them in SDFM, DYRL?, and FB2012. And we keep telling them the same answer...every time. Quote

Kurisama Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Man I just wanna see Isamu, as an old-skool instructor - or private military employee, or something! Wonder what happened to Myung? Or maybe see an old face - like Yang? Quote

dreamweaver13 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 wouldn't it be funny if either misa, hikaru or minmei just showed up in one episode of macross F to give a short pep talk to one of the characters... without an explanation! just show up and gone the next episode. and no one metions it again. MAN, that would beat the WTF-1 fiasco silly. seriously, even if SK does suddenly decide to reveal the fate of MR1, you really want it in just a 3-4 episode-arc of a series not devoted to them? Quote

Renato Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 With Arihiro Hase out of the picture, and most likely no Mikimoto magic, I don't think I would ever be entirely satisfied with a new anime about Hikaru and gang. Quote

I would probably write the original trio for all intents and purposes as dead. Maybe a Megaroad survivor other than them say Hikaru and Misa's daughter Miku. Miku growing up under the enemies that killed her parents? Some Protoculture genetic manipulation to keep her young like a Meltran. For a new enemy the Supervision Army. They were being escorted by a Zentradi warship so a misunderstanding? Quote

Wouldn't need to do that. Having the Frontier fleet stumble across a colony that includes (among other people) the child of the late Hikaru and Misa (who died of old age in their sleep) would probably take care of things well enough. Who knows. No one likes loose ends, and a line about favorite characters just plain "disappearing" never to be revisited again is in many ways the ultimate loose end. Quote
Gubaba Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 i know this has been b*tched forever, but is it Won't do a follow-up story? or Can't in light of anything HG? Unlikely, since Kawamori was saying way back in the '90s that he was done with them, at a point when HG hadn't discovered the power of parasitical thinking. Quote

Gubaba Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I really don't understand the the obsessive need some people have to see those characters revisited again. In some ways, it's not strange at all...they're the original Macross Trio, and (almost) every macross fan feels a great sense of attachment to them. On the other hand, you don't get too many people pestering Yoshiyuki Tomino to ressurrect Amuro and Char... Quote
junior Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 That's what happens when you kill a character off - people stop asking you to continue their story. Seabook from F91 gets interest, but largely because it's known that Gundam F-91 was supposed to be the early portion of a new TV series instead of a stand alone movie. So there's interest in knowing how the original story would have turned out. (and Seabook does get revisited in the Crossbones Gundam manga - pirate Gundams!) In any case, Tomino has indicated that he's not really interested in telling any further UC Gundam stories. iirc, he might be interested in doing his Turn A Space project if given the chance, but otherwise I think he's done with Gundam. Well...Char's Counterattack novelization aside, you didn't actually SEE them die, right...? Back to Macross, I think one of the problems is that, if you were like me in 1987, you saw Flashback 2012 and thought that it was a prologue rather than an epilogue. That, and the fact that all of the Macross sequels have felt more like side stories than genuine sequels (at least to me...and it's not a put-down) does kind of make it feel like there's a Megaroad-shaped vacuum in the Macross universe. But yeah, that yearning feeling goes away after a while. Quote

"Died of old age in their sleep"? Jeez... Come on... By 2059 Hikaru (born in 1992) would be like 67... and Misa (born in 1990) would be 69 years old... Hell... even Macross Quarter's Captain Jeffrey Wilder is supposed to be a veteran of Space War I like them... and he looks healthy to me... They wouldn't be that old... whispo Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Seriously, why would you want Hikaru, Misa and Minmay back? Why can't they just discover the wreckage of the megaroad-01, that would interest me more and that way you wouldn't have to deal with the sudden rediscovery of "the"big stars. They'd be dead and we'd be stuck with more questions concerning the destruction of the megaroad Quote

Not to mention time in fold space, they could be younger. Like how Max doesn't look a day over 40 in Mac7 when he should be in his late 50's. Quote
