Vifam7 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I brush paint my models with acrylic and enamel. I don't have an airbrush so I'm restricted to spraycans. So, which of these clear flat sprays is best? 1. Testor's Dullcote 2. Gunze's Mr. Super Clear (Flat) 3. Krylon's Matte Finish 4. Model Master Laquer Overcoat (Lusterless Flat) 5. Tamiya TS-80 Flat Clear Advice appreciated. Quote
PetarB Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I love and use Mr Super Clear (Flat). Tamiya's TS-80 has only just become available to me - I would be interested in hearing if it's any good as well. Quote
Wicked Ace Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I'm not sure which is "best," but the ones I've used without problems are: Tamiya TS-80 Flat Clear; Testors 1260 Dullcote; and Testors 1960 Flat Lacquer. Quote
ron5864 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I have no problems with yellowing or cracking with Testor Dullcote 1260 for 10 years. i just started using Tamiya TS-80 with no problem also. I like the Tamiya for its finer spray action which allows better control and coating. Testor seems to dump too much once the nozzle is pressed down. Quote
mitch Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I find that the Testors Dullcote generally works well. It protects against fingerprints and keeps the finish nice and flat. Although, I would advise to do a test to see if it reacts with the paint you are using underneath. The tamiya Flat clear can work well, but I've had some experiences where it will turn white in patches, and also it would be eaten by anything as tough or tougher than alcohol, whereas testors is much more durable. Krylon is okay, but the finish isn't as flat as the dullcote. Quote
