Gubaba Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Well! That was certainly something, wasn't it now? I was wrong about the Macross...I still don't understand why they would create a brand new ship that looks just like a somewhat-competantly retrofitted alien ship, but oh well... I'm quite liking the idea that the Vajra are relatively harmless until exposed to the superdimensional crystals...that would fit with Grace talking about the "True Terror of the Vajra"...the Hydra from ep. 10 had been exposed to it as well... Maybe. I'm swearing off any speculation of any kind from now on. However, I don't think that Ranka has a Vajra or a crystal inside her. Since we determined last week that she's actually a FAST pack, clearly she was just warming up her engines for an escape attempt... Quote
Kronnang Dunn Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) I'm hoping at least one of them made it through. DAMN YOU GRACE! I'm more and more convinced some of them did... I remember from the original SDF Macross TV show that either the advisor or the commander stayed in one module of the Command Battleship each. Maybe in Episode 12 Major Ohgotwhai was on the planet together with his advisor to manage the revolt and receive Shery. Afterwards he could have departed to the Orbital Module while his advisor stayed in the Assault Module at the base during Episode 13... Perhaps we will never know... Shun Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 ... there was another voice in Brera's flashback when he ..."drops down" through SDF-4 Global...playing the harmonica... you're talking about a male voice right? isn't that voice Brera's? I missed it, who is the VA? ランシェ・メイ is 坂本 真綾 Maaya Sakamoto aka Aerith in Final Fantasy 7 AC, Pandora in Saint Seiya, Lunamaria Hawke in SEED Destiny... etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maaya_Sakamoto since its a female voice, ランシェ・メイ is probably the mother? are there other new female voices heard? LAI allegiance is to no one but $$$. It's Capitalism. maybe the Zentradi deserved to die because they forsaken their male powered armor and used the Q-Reas... bunch of sissies dont deserve to die as warriors. j/k /runs Quote

mike_s_6 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 ランシェ・メイ is 坂本 真綾 Maaya Sakamoto So that was it? Well I did hear that Maaya will appear in Macross F in episode 13, I didn't know it'd be that brief. But I guess Ranka's mom will play a bigger role in the future, so we'll hear more of her. Quote

VF-25 Messiah Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 definately had to vote positive on this one. After some "Awww.." in the beginning the second half had me going "Whoa!" the rest of the time. Simply awesome stuff! Next week doesn't look like it'll disappoint either. Some nice Mecha Pr0n with Alto using armored pack, VF-171 battroid action (finally!) and by the looks of the biggest fleet battle yet! Can't wait! Quote

How much Ozma knows remains to be seen, wasn´t he just a fighter jock back then? He still may not know the whole story and I´m betting he doesn´t know half as much as Leon and Grace. Quote

Duke Togo Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 At this point, nothing coming in the series will surprise me. Though taking a look at the picture of Ranka's mom, the bust line & hair color, as well as the tribal style necklace all lead to the possability of it being Mao. I was assuming Mao would be the grandmother, not the mother. Quote

He seems cornered twice in this episode and almost lost his life. well he is a rookie afterall (and brera is an exceptional fighter and presumably more experienced). but yeah i score this 2-0 brera. alto still seems pretty talented though, and he was pretty distracted. try a flight or space sim game ( i recommend freespace2) and you will find that when you're not on a simple search and destroy mission and minding other stuff (like defending a convoy), you get locked on more often. Even after he gave his "I will stop him no matter what!" speech, he still only survived because Grace told Brera to fall back lol. I like the way they are setting up the rivalry though, here's to hoping we get an EPIC dogfight out of it. Quote

How exactly do you get "cornered" in a three-dimensional fighting space? Alto was both times just sitting there, waiting to be shot down. Which is kinda silly, seeing how agile aerial combat is in Macross. Quote

Which is kinda silly, seeing how agile aerial combat is in Macross. Well you can kinda assume that the second time, Alto would have pulled some crazy aerial maneuver to get out of Brera's path. But the first time when he was sitting there in Gerwalk was clearly a setup for Mikhail and Sheryl's save. It would have worked a bit better if he wasn't just sitting there for so long though. But maybe he wanted to wait until just as Brera was going to shoot before trying to avoid. Since Brera would probably have been able to adjust his aim if he moved before. Quote
Final Vegeta Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 One thing nobody seems to have thought: the VF-27 could be manifactured as a secret project by LAI. Makes sense for all the things Grace received from LAI. FV Quote

DeeBot Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Watched the episode again, had a few more things click into place for me. I'm pretty sure the entire 33rd was destroyed. Right after Grace does her little jump thing, she brings up an overlay which seems to show the extent of the dimension bomb's destruction radius, along with a number of little triangles that seem to match the location of ships (multiple). We only see one, but it seems like a reasonable assumption. I'm thinking she was making sure the entire 33rd would be caught in the destruction radius before she set it off. I think the quick flashback to the Global with its escorts at the beginning of the episode was to set a parallel with the Vajra fleet and its own escorts. I think we're supposed to draw the conclusion that the other ships in the Vajra fleet were also cannibalized from the 117th fleet (the scale is about right). If so, that's some radical modification taking place. Also, the same thing seemed to be happening to the Galaxy fleet, last we knew... (Also, is it just me, or does the Vajra mothership sorta resemble the Birdman? What if the 117th was designed specifically to go in search of the Birdman, maybe even found it, or something like it? And then the Vajra absorbs it? Granted, a bit far-fetched.) The rest of this I'm not as sure about, since I'm relying on the first sub, but it seems like Grace is acting to try and spark a civil war between Zentradi and humans by setting off the bomb. That seems like a pretty interesting development, if it bears out. What faction would have it in their self-interest to spark such a conflict? The other thing the sub mentions that I found interesting is something about the Vajra following the path of the fold communications. Perhaps the Vajra are attracted to these somehow? Perhaps as a consequence of the mysterious purple crystals they seem to have assimilated? On a final note, it seems pretty certain Grace survives, because she asks Brera to wait for further orders from her, right before setting off the bomb. She doesn't seem to be committing suicide, or just trying to spare his feelings. She's entirely in control of the situation. Quote
DeeBot Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) It may speak to Alto's inexperience. He's talented, but doesn't have the combat awareness needed to effectively beat Brera... This brought to mind a very brief sequence in this episode that someone mentioned earlier. When Brera's fancy gun is shot out of his hand and apparently explodes, it ever-so-briefly knocks out the VF-27's virtual reality cockpit. You can see the physical Brera in the cockpit, and you can also notice how pixelated the view is when he focuses on one of the VF-25s, after the system restores itself (demonstrating its digital nature). Perhaps this is another source of Brera's combat superiority: He has an unobstructed line of sight in a complete sphere around him, something Alto doesn't have with his non-VR system. Every time Alto seems to think he's gotten behind Brera unawares, he's astonished when Brera performs some maneuver that shows he knew exactly where Alto was all along. Of course, sensors should play a similar role for both sides, but in the heat of a dogfight, and with who knows what stealth/jamming technologies available to each side, perhaps it's plausible that Alto should think he can get the drop on someone, and equally plausible that someone can turn the tables and get the drop on him.
