COmparing sci-fi shows is really difficult, especially since most have nothing in common. In Macross vs. Star Wars though the Macross fighters get the shaft. SW uses all the lousy "magic tech" cheats in sci-fi, like inertia compensators, shields, yadda, yadda, yadda. It took the UN Spacy 30 years to advance Valkyries to attain orbit from a planet surface launch, something even the lowliest SW fighter does effortlessly in far less time. In Macross vs. Gundam, I'd give the edge to Macross, though that's no surprise coming from a Macross fan.

Seriously though, in any strategic comparison, Macross has all the advantages. Territory, resources, industrial capacity/capabilities, economy scale, etc. Hell, the Feddies and Zeon combined would be outnumbered by the UN Spacy 10 to 1, not to mention the strategic advantage of fold technology. Comparing small units, Macross enjoys superior power generation tech, superior thrust-to-weight ratios, etc. About the only disadvantage Macross suffers is gun pod calibers and we could endlessly speculate about the importance of muzzle velocity in that area. But so what if a Gundam has super armor; that's why the UNS has heavy weapons: VB-6 Konig Monsters, Strike Valkyries, Armored Valkyries, XS-06 high-piercing-round gun pods, VF-17 beam gun adapters, Sniper Gun Pods and speaking of muzzle velocity, Destroid Defenders with 3,300 m/s guns...mwuhahahaha

I mean let's face it, super armor sure doesn't seem to be helping the Vajra much, now does it?

Macross would have the speed advantage and possibly logistics as well, but i dont think it has the power, manouverability or weapons tech to beat UC stuff. And Im more of a Macross fan as well. Maybe some of the later day valks, say the 11b on, but the VF-1 I think could be taken down by a 78-2. That said, if u advance tech on both sides, Gundams gets stupidly more powerful, so even later day vlaks would be hard pressed.

Overall though i think Chin is right: Star Wars wins over all. I retract my arguements to the contrary in favour of superior evidence.

I think Macross would beat most Gundams, because Max is clearly a newtype.

The real question is what happens when he goes up against Amuro or Char.

Maneuverability and speed without doubt favors Macross. The VF-1 Valkyrie has nearly three times the maneuverability of the original Gundam just comparing statistics (VF-1 Valkyrie T/W ratio is 2.49 vs. RX-78-2 Gundam is 0.93). Advancing beyond the VF-1 vs. RX-78-2, the performance gap increasingly favors the Valks. A single VF-1S Super Valkyrie (T/W 6.36) beats everything in the Gundam franchise except G-Saviour and possibly Wing. If we assume the VF-1's standard weapons won't penetrate Gundam armor I see no reason why heavy weaponry wouldn't, like the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie's high-powered beam cannon, the VF-1 Armored Valkyrie's high-speed armor-penetrating projectiles or any Valkyrie converging energy beam gun (Destroid guns too).

Newtypes might help, but given the vast performance advantage the Valkyries enjoy, I don't see what good enhanced awareness would do for such slow mecha. Even if they see it coming, the mobile suits wouldn't be able to react in time. Max is in a league all his own, like Einstein

Personally, I see the Macross Frontier scenario as much like a Macross vs. Gundam showdown, though performance would favor Macross. The super armor red Vajra = Gundam while yellow Vajra = GM/Zaku.

Unless you are sticking to the original Gundam universe, it is a moot point- the Gundam will always win.

I say this not because I believe the Gundams to be of superior design, but because of the obvious.

Macross has never used the DBZ effect, Gundam has.

To compare even the best Valk to the "sentai sempai" Gundams is a waste of time.
