DARTHTODD Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 Just wondering if anyone knows which paint colors match the yamato 1/60 VF-1A Max (the blue), the VF-1S Roy (the yellow), and the VF-1A Hikaru (the red). It doesn't matter which brand of paint though it would be nice if they were common brands. Any help would be appreciatted since I'm assuming some of you have tried touching up your valks or customizing, thanks. Quote
Uxi Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 (edited) Yeah what he said. I'm interested in the black, too. Would just ordinary flat black do it? Since we most likely are NOT getting FP upgrade packs , its about time I did something about the chipping on my Roy VF-1S leg stripe. <_ Edited October 30, 2003 by Uxi Quote
David Hingtgen Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 (edited) There's no such thing as "black". I own a good 4 blacks, and none match what I'm currently trying to match. Will try some various enamels later. Anyways, for "basic" colors like blue, red, yellow, black, etc, go take a look at the model railroad paints. There's a LOT of "medium/bright reds", lots of yellow, not many blues though but they are nice and rich, and 3-4 blacks per line usually. I don't know why, but most blacks you can buy aren't black/dark enough to match most factory painted stuff. Acrylic black is the least black, btw, if you want BLACK, do not go with acrylic, it's inherently more flat/grey. (I'm currently touching up a locomotive, that's overall deep black, with off-black anti-skid, almost-black walkways, and "a different black" for vents and grills") (And the deep black is what I can't match) PS--the black on the legs isn't as black as the black stripes on the chest, IIRC. Leg chipping is probably easier to match than most other blacks. Edited October 30, 2003 by David Hingtgen Quote
DARTHTODD Posted October 31, 2003 Author Posted October 31, 2003 Thanks Dave, I'll take a look at these paints and see if I can find some that'll work. I'll let you know Uxi if I find some good matches. And if anyone else has already tried matching these colors and has some suggestions, let us know. Quote
