Strumvogel Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Whenever it slips, I just think of two little words... "Virgin Road" ....and it all seems so much better. Looks fine to me. Granted I was watching Horrible Raws, so the picture quality isn't the best to judge with but the animation looks consistent and was on par to me with the Nara Animation's works. So I don't think people will have too many problems with this. As for Alto's selfishness, I think there may be more to that than we think. It may have something to do with his mother as well whom we see the back of in the grainy film flashback but as yet not even mentioned as of yet in the series. I think she plays a big part about his decision which we'll find out later. And you people put too much stock in whom you think Alto will choose. He clearly still only thinks of both of them as good friends. Quote
Keith Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I actually think Alto's into Sheryl in his own way, when you examine his interactions with both girls, he treats Sheryl as an equal, and Ranka as more of a sibling. Quote
Nexx Stalker Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Marvellous episode. This series just keeps getting better and better. Quote
Major Focker Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 i don't know if it's just me, but i found the character animation in this ep to be the best thus far. it's consistent throughout the episode and across characters ie. even the background characters are well drawn. cathy is just gorgeous (and not just because of the shower scene), sheryl made me salivate as usual, and even ranka has some pretty nifty glamour shots. to afford this quality, there were a number of lengthy still shots, stylishly done though for the most part. the music was pretty well done too, if a tad overplayed. i think ep10 still has the best scoring in this regard. Quote
mike_s_6 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I never thought that Alto was selfish, I mean, do you want to be an actor just because your parents were actors, or do you want to fly for fun and consequently defend people? That he considers flying as "fun" is just a plus, "Who wouldn't want to go to war for fun?!" he said. I thought it was funny for him to think so, but it shows a lot about his character. About the animation quality - The credits say that the animation is also partly outsourced, but the quality is okay in my opinion. I wonder if the one-week break had something to do with the quality. Legend of TSXer Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I have yet to see the subs, but from what was said so far, Sheryl should be the one to win Alto because she is providing him something he really wanted. Ya, Ranka isn't capable of that yet, but she still deserves a shot. Damn love triangles.... Gotta love them tho! Ima hold out voting on this episode till I watch subs. Quote

CF18 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Anyway, it seems like Planet Galiawhatisname is colonized by the 13th Zentraedi Platoon remains from the Bodol Fleet. Number 13 is always a bad number in Macross Universe, so next week...I mean next two week we will see the 13th Zentran platoon on riot involving a couple of Nupetiet class vessel and power armor, awesome It's 33rd platoon, not 13th, when Ozma and Kuran Kuran talks about them Quote
Shun Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) What makes you think L.A.I. fixed it? There was no indication of that. I'm guessing Brera and Grace have some markers they can call in to deal with problems like missing limbs and other damages. Hell if they scooped up the leg the thing lost they could fix the broken parts and just reattach it instead of getting a new one (or put a new one on while they fix the old one so then that in turn becomes a spare). we see the container labelled L.A.I @11:25. LAI was not involved with the development of vf-27, since they were very eager to grab new technology from it. so Agent G gave them access perhaps in exchange for logistics support? and of coz for the supply of purple gems. Is this Kamujin's clone brother? Nyan Nyan CM Kai is awesome! Its probably Kamjin Jr. same hair color pic source oh... and seems like even the males now use the Q-Rea?!!?!?! DeeBot Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) And the writers wouldn't be doing their job if she doesn't get it. Sheryl has been portrayed fairly sympathetically as of late, but I'm still not convinced she's The One in the end. There could be any number of twists before the end; the series likes to pay homage to Macross history, but also subvert it. I'm not the kind of person who gets a big kick over speculating on love triangles (in the end, the writers do what they want), but as an example of the kind of possible twists I've considered, one of the girls could die. Seems pretty unlikely, but that would definitely force the conclusion of any love triangle. Another is that Ranka gives up on stardom after all; it was mentioned earlier in this thread, and I think there's a good chance of it. She seems to have her head on more straight than some past starlets... if she decides her friends are the most important, she's not likely to lose sight of that. Speaking of Ranka's stardom, think Ozma's found out yet who was kissing Ranka yet? And I'm still wondering about Sheryl's illness... Me, too. I'm wondering why there hasn't been more speculation about this... it seems like it might be more than just a simple case of coming down with the flu. Did she just get sick recently, or is it a chronic condition she's been managing the whole time with medicine? If she has some sort of terminal disease, it might explain a lot, especially considering Galaxy's acknowledged expertise with biotechnology. But maybe I'm reading too much into this, and it's just to set up the storyline in the next episode or something. Perhaps someone who can pick up the nuances in the dialogue could clarify. BlueMax Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 It seems that LAI repaired the VF-27. After watching the RAW, I take back my earlier statement about the SDF:M drama. The chihiro subs also mentioned leon's informant sending the blueprints of that "thing" and that its "almost identical". Seems to be the blueprints to the vf-27. Some thats how the vf-27 could have been repaired, or, it could be a totally new built craft, biut without the imbuilt fold boosters. Quote
sketchley Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 yes カムジン is the Katakana spelling... and I feel more comfortable with direct romanizations rather then the weird spellings from model kits and the like... I can't remember how to spell that or Vlrtwai or whatever it is. Agreed. Quote

aerocombatpilot Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Notice how the Armor resembles that of the TV show, but on the other hand the rifle muzzles are just like those from DYRL... Yes, there does seem to be a mixing of the original Macross and the movie, however I think this is done for the fans. We are always looking for something that connects Macross Frontier with Macross, so I think they put these little "easter eggs" in as some sort of 'nod' or 'wink' to the fans. Quote

Another possibility is that the "spare parts" were aboard the GSL the whole time. Members of that crew could also be the technicians. And yet another possibility is that they cannibalized one of the CF VF-27s we saw folding with Brera at the end of ep 7... It may or may not be Leon's faction as we don't know how much information Grace gave about the VF-27 and if Leon even knows where the fighters are berthed... So many possiblities... azrael Posted June 20, 2008 Author Posted June 20, 2008 The writers won't be doing their job if they didn't make you people try to figure out who Alto is going to go after. Note about the Zentradi names: The spellings are intentional since they denote that they're not human. Were the the Zentradi human, we would use the Romanization of their names (which is also perfectly acceptable). And he's not actually in a relationship with either girl at this point. As rude as it may have been to skip out on Ranka (he probably should have at least called her beforehand to decline), this opportunity is something that he may not see again for a very long time. If I have the choice between a 'once a year' opportunity or to spend some time with people that I see frequently anyway... The fact that the womanizer had to tell Ranka that Alto wasn't coming shows Alto's selfish side. The least he could have done was call her, maybe leave a message. But I'll let it slide this time since it's his birthday present and that his family decided to give him a hard time, again. But as I've said, the ball is in Sheryl's court. It will go back to Ranka's as part of the natural order of things. Then back to Sheryl, then back to Ranka, wash, rinse, repeat, etc. Quote
The_WOZ Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Look at the "A·I" written on the hangar door, I'm pretty sure that it's just part of 'L·A·I' logotype and not the 'A1' hangar. Quote
azrael Posted June 20, 2008 Author Posted June 20, 2008 Ah well...turns out I can actually watch the HD version on my old, old computer if I shut EVERYTHING else down...and it only skips during action scenes, so this ep was fine. Now the lower and higher quality stuff is out so you can download it. Quote

DeeBot Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Look at the "A·I" written on the hangar door, I'm pretty sure that it's just part of 'L·A·I' logotype and not the 'A1' hangar. Well, if it is, the dot between the L and A seem to be missing. Not sure what "A·I" would stand for, though, and you're right, it does look more like an I than a 1. Something I might point out is that it's not a hangar door at all; this puzzled me to begin with, because it's clearly not at all door-like. It reminded me more of a shipping container, and if you look closely at that screenshot, you can see the handles for the doors on the side. It's a pretty poorly-designed shipping container, since that curvy bit on the bottom wastes space, but I definitely think it's probably an LAI shipping container. Quote
Master Dex Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Well it seems to me I was incorrect, I think maybe L.A.I. is fixing up the VF-27. However it makes since kind of if you think about it. In ep.10 Agent G (Grace most likely at this point) gave Leon all the data he/she had on the VF-27 and we know that that person is Brera's superior so unless G withheld some information he/she might have given all of it to Leon. Perhaps besides the information, in exchange for the mysterious purple crystals, Leon has arranged for the 27 to get repairs when necessary. Quote

At this point it's all plausible, since the crumbs are falling fairly slowly right now. I tend to agree it is some sort of container, who it belongs to hasn't been determined yet. For all we know they could be stealing the LAI parts for the VF-25 to repair the 27 in LAI's own container. Quote
