If they're from Frontier then who provided them with a hangar? lookie here: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?s=&a...st&p=603849 edit: onto another thing, I feel that Alto is the only guy that treats Ranka LIKE a sister (step-sister, w/e) while everyone else is treating her like a kid (or kid sister; same thing though), literally. Though not calling her to just say he can't meet her is kinda harsh (where's the email)? SMS(text messaging)? Kronnang Dunn
Though not calling her to just say he can't meet her is kinda harsh (where's the email)? SMS(text messaging)? Is all Grace's fault. She must have blocked it somehow. Grace and Leon seem to be taking very seriously their goal of making Ranka's life miserable... To unleash the true terror of the Vajra perhaps? dreamweaver13
interesting... i love this episode (and IMO a very good one), but 15 pages into this thread, it seems it's already slowed down almost to a stand still. not to mention that most of it are posts about the next episode and the kamjin lookalike. sucks to be a tweener. Batou
Galaxy. NUNS was completely surprised to see it when it first arrived. This is a good question for the Newb thread... And I'd hardly call that a "hangar". It looks more like Brera managed to find a disused docking port, and managed to hide his bird away in there. I'd imagine it's very probable they hacked, bribed, or otherwise obtained/found it by morally questionable means ... whatever organization these two are working for, it appears to be well funded and presumably very well connected (something as advanced as a VF-27 can not be cheap to make, even if it's just a prototype). Renato
I didn't like this episode. I found it boring, because I've mostly given up on liking any character in this show. They may not be quite as two-dimensional as Shin and Edgar in Macross Zero, but still, they just do not interest me. Plus Zero had Roy, at least. I too noticed that a lot of the posts here refer to the next episode preview. I even forgot that I watched this episode. I couldn't even remember anything about it! I loved SDF Mac because of the mix of great characters and great backstory, in Mac7 the great characters almost made up for the silly backstory (demons from another dimension) and now I'm just purely watching this show for the intriguing backstory, and action. I really do not care one bit about Alto and his whole frigging family. And Sheryl pushing her breasts together is just embarassing. Looking forward to changing gears in the next episode, though! Graham
Given that Grace seems to have advanced hacking capabilities, she's probably hacked Frontier's computer net and altered the records to have an unused hanger area assigned to Brera. I've also got this theory that the VF-27 doesn't show up on Frontier's radars when it launches, not beacuse it is stealthy (although it might be), but beacuse Grace has hacked into the Frontier defense net and programmed it to effectively ignore the VF-27. After all, that could bring both in a "personal duel" of sorts, seeing how both look like computer geeks. On a side note, Grace's activities and attitudes remind me a lot of Motoko Kusanaki, with the exception of Grace being more hypocrite when necessary (after all, she's Sheryl's PR person). Eaglearcher
Obviously Grace is Sharon Apple. Vajira is a mutated form of Galactic Whale. Alto turned out to be Max's son and Ranka turned out to Miria's daughter, both from extra-marital affair, just look at their hair. Like on the episode 9, she even knew about Michael's sister... just a specullation does she really came from Frontier's military in the first place? Does she have issues on the Frontier's Gov't? VFTF1
Just watched episode 11. One of the BEST episodes thus far. Right up there with episode 5. Extremely interesting and wonderful dramatic situation for Alto - not just Ranka and Sheryl pulling at him due to his birthday; but his PAST as well. This is a very good way for us to be exposed to Alto's past - rather than a dry recollection of events, the past suddenly calls for Alto to return - and if his "Big Brother" is to be believed; Alto has never left - is this true? Is Alto really an actor at heart? Personally, I found it amazing albeit true to Alto's rebellious nature that he went with Sheryl. Of course; the question still remains - did he chose Sheryl... or did he chose the SKY? In any event - you go girl (Sheryl)! A mature woman understands men enough to get to their heart: my girlfriend, for example, always keeps me enslaved because she takes me out for Chinese food - I have a weakness for beautiful women who like to take a guy out to chow down. Sheryl hits Alto spot on - giving him the chance to finally fly in a real sky. Bravo. It is this kind of behavior that will ultimately endear Alto to Sheryl. Does Ranka have a chance still? Hard to tell - I think no... after this episode I can't see her making her way into Alto's heart. Sheryl has decided to go to the same school, to fly, and now she's taking Alto to see the sky. Ranka is waaaaay behind - because in the beginning she gave her emotions to Alto (rather than slapping him like Sheryl did), and later focused so much on her success.. Ohhh - speaking of which! Smart manipulative Sheryl! Could it be that Sheryl "helped" Ranka with he career in order to get RID of her as competition for Alto's afffections? Women are supposedly extremely capable of being evil to one another when fighting over a man. In fact; now I suspect that Sheryl keeps Ranka close because you should "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer." On this note - a very little mentioned but important achievement of this story is the conflict between Sheryl and Ranka for Alto's heart. It's very pronounced - far more than Misa vs Mynmey ... And on that note - I detect a complete reversal of roles - you see, it is RANKA who is more like MISA! Sheryl is totally like a more mature version of Minmey - adept at manipulation; having made an art of it. Remember that Misa was, on the outside, very crusty and strict - but around Hikaru that exterior melted away leaving the little girl who fell in love with Riber and who wanted nothing more than to be a woman rather than a soldier - she is actually very much like the "girly" Ranka. Sheryl on the other hand, is Minmey on steroids - she has mastered the art of the flirt, the wink, the "meaingless kiss" and everything in between. The only reason I like Sheryl now is because she LOVES ALTO. I think she really is in love with him - even this episode - look at her face after she thanks him for coming and he says "did you say something?" - it's obvious that even she is shocked at herself for falling so madly in love... But there it is - I guess if Sheryl can be so dedicated to a guy and so in love with him - then she's a cool chick despite all of the other stuff...which WILL come back to haunt her in the end Leaon is TERRRIBLE! WHY does Cathy even tolerate this shmuk?? The whole "Cinderella" exchange was aweful. Poor Cathy. Ozma has to take the girl back. Speaking of Ozma - he's been kind of sidelined since the premiere three episodes, but I think we'll be seeing more of him real soon. All in all - I would say this is a candidate for best episode, certainly makes the top two or three. Great stuff! VFTF1

Women are supposedly extremely capable of being evil to one another when fighting over a man. In fact; now I suspect that Sheryl keeps Ranka close because you should "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer." While the idea is amusing, keep in mind that Sheryl started encouraging Ranka in episode 3. At that point, as far as Sheryl was concerned Alto was just the jerk who'd seen her topless. It wasn't until episode 5 (after the Miss Macross contest was over) that Sheryl started to become friends with Alto. So Sheryl's encouragement of Ranka's singing career started before Sheryl became interested in Alto.
VFTF1
I'm not at all sure of that. I think it's quite evident in episode 2, when the three of them are stuck in that airlock, that Sheryl takes a liking to Alto. VFTF1

Sulendil Ang
FYI, darkrealmbahamut, AiA's original head, Shouta, had dropped the MF, although there's a possibility that AiA may taken up the project again. To quote Shouta... Well, Bomb and AiA might be continuing it but it'll be released under just their name. I don't know what's going on with it now so it's up to him. In the mean time, I'll work on my own stuff, Birdy up next week and the current manga projects I have.

Well - this is the wonderful thing about Macross: you're never quite sure what motivates people... I got the feeling Sheryl was HAPPY to have to talk to him again. Oh sure, driving away she was condescending, but in her bathtub she was happy at the prospect of seeing Alto again. Also, I think she immediately took a liking to the fact that Alto doesn't take sheeeeet from her VFTF1
Mr March
Episode 11, "Missing Birthday" This episode starts out with adverts for Ranka's first live performance intercut with a conversation between Leon and Kathy riding in a car. Gallia 4, a New UN Goverment world, is going to be a focal point for important events according to Leon's information and Kathy is very curious. It's clear she knows about Mr. Bilrer through discussion with Leon, but he appears tight lipped himself. Ranka is clearly becoming very busy starring in adverts and doing interviews, but is planning to attend Alto's birthday. Back at the school, the students talk around the pool and learn Sheryl is planning a concernt of Gallia 4. Kathy meets with Ozuma to arrange an escort for Sheryl. It's the perfect job for Alto, but he'll have his hands full this episode with the arrival of his brother Yasaburo Saotome. Alto's father has fallen ill and has made a deal that should Alto return on his birthday, his father will accept him again. Sheryl then meets with Ranka and the two talk of careers, but Sheryl has a dizzy spell revealing she might not be well. Grace later speaks with Sheryl and confirms signs of illness, buit a stubborn Sheryl will hear nothing of it as she prepares for her appearance on Gallia 4. Ever inquisitive about the circumstances on Gallia 4, Kathy meets with Klan to discuss the Zentradi living there and it's clear even after 50 years there are still divides in Zentradi society; those for the New United Nations and those against. Alto then meets with Sheryl and she offers him a chance to go to Gallia 4 where a real sky exists where Alto can fly his Valkyrie. Once alone, Alto listens to Ranka's phone message, offering to meet at the park on his birthday. Alto has a choice, decides to escort Sheryl instead and asks Mikhail to meet Ranka to offer his apologies. Ranka is left alone at the park but agains encounters the strange green animal that has followed her previously. The episode ends with Leon covertly contacting Grace aboard Sheryl's transport for Gallia 4, Alto escorting in his VF-25. The mysterious VF-27 then follows with it's own fold booster attached. There's much happening in this episode and the story feels perfectly on track. The episode mostly focuses upon Alto, especially his relationship with his step brother and his father, but it also plays upon Alto's vulnerability for his dreams of flying. Sheryl cleverly siezes upon this opportunity to fulfill Alto's wants and makes him an offer she knows he won't refuse. It's still unclear if Sheryl has admitted to herself yet how much she's fallen for Alto, but it's clear she's competitive with Ranka and given her personality is determined to keep Alto for herself. Ranka is clearly too passive in her relationship with Alto and is almost begging for his approval. What Ranka needs to do is prove her worth by fighting for Alto, but will she? On the war side of the story, Leon is assisting the plans of Mr Brilrer and it seems much more is happening on Gallia 4 then almost anyone suspects. The episodes of Macross Frontier are again building to something and it's going to happen soon. Brera barely appears in this episode, but it's again made certain that he's being equipped and supplied from within the Macross Frontier fleet. His VF-27 is equipped with a fold booster at the end of the episode by what looks like L.A.I., the company that built the VF-25 and is Luca's family business, run by his siblings. More ties are sure tobe revealed as the story unfolds. That brings to a close another strong episode of Macross Frontier and we're on to the next. Deculture! The Shinsen subs make it easier to understand, there was a disease infecting the hydra that made them crazy like in ep. 10. Most likely this is related to the V-type infection.
