ron5864 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Sheryl is pretty slick at stealing. Like a "pro" that she is. Ranka didn't have a chance. The only way for Ranka to get a shot at Alto now would be if Sheryl gets kidnapped by the Zentraedies for a month, like how Minmay got robbed in DYRL. Quote
ackem Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 You know... I gotta say... Sheryl c***blocked the hell out of Ranka. Right after talking to Ranka about the ticket and getting dizzy (when she drops her drink), when she's on the couch in her underwear she has this evil grin of enlightenment... I didn't it see it as Sheryl thinking that it would be a good way to sabotage Ranka's plans, but as her thinking of the perfect present for Alto. It's kinda interesting that she writes in her blog that she doesn't really care what she gives to guys for their birthdays, yet gave Alto the best gift he could ever have asked for. I don't think that Ranka even entered her thoughts at that moment. I may be reading a little much into this, but I'm thinking the thank you to Alto when she was on the spaceliner was because of what Grace said. She's going because there was the (false) rumor that survivors from Galaxy were on Gallia 4. She brushes this aside when Grace asks, but I'm sure that she's feeling a little insecure about how devastated she would be if the rumor turned out to be wrong. I guess Alto's presence gives her some emotional support for the likelihood of the rumor being untrue. Quote
Major Focker Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 4. i'm loving sheryl even more with this episode. what wily thinking. or at the very least, it was very thoughtful of her. what a great birthday gift. and her whispered "thank you for coming" to alto? priceless! she is just, hands down, the queen! 7. and the references! subtle, and nicely played. the front row ticket! ha, the first thought that came to mind: "ok they have cellphones now, this shouldn't be a problem at all." hehe. but macrossF played a trick on me. instead of going in that direction in this episode, it jumped to another reference: sheryl on the transport jet (with what looks like the same armored-seats in SDFM) with alto's VF25 as an escort. very cool! and the whole episode ends with ranka's diary, a possible nod to the old photo-album ending. ..not to mention that the dialogue played the same way ie. misa whispering "thank you", hikaru not catching it and asking "what was that?", and misa angrily retorting "no, it was nothing" so if misa=sheryl and ranka=minmei (rising star), i'm liking the odds on this one i know, i know, i should stop speculating and that the writers are probably going to throw a curve ball in the last inning, but a fanboy can hope, right? DestroidDefender Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I'm enjoying the whole thing - the characters, mecha, music, & intrigue. I just can't imagine it being resolved in only a dozen more episodes. My only nitpick is I wish Chihiro would stop translating Ranka's manager/agent as "president" especially since the President (Glass) is a different character - they've done that 2 or 3 times now. Really I wouldn't be surprised if that dizzy spell was brought on by her kind of freaking out about not having anything to give him. Either way those 2 (Ranka and Sheryl) have a really odd relationship. Quote

Master Dex Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 On the subject of how Grace could talk to Leon without appearing to physically talk, all cyborg ways that can be done aside I have another option that could explain it. First off I do now believe Grace is Brera's commander, I just wanted to wait for more proof but I was getting convinced after ep. 10. Anyway, this is something from a Star Wars book. In Republic Commando: True Colors the members of Omega Squad have these implants that were put into their jaws somewhere designed for silent communication. They basically work by the commando moving his jaw ever so slightly in a way similar to how it would move if he was actually speaking and those movements are translated into what he is really saying and sent through the com-link like a normal transmission. The purpose of this being so one can contact the other in a situation where they don't want to be heard (if there is someone they are hiding from) or if they are supposed to look inconspicuous while talking on the com-link. Knowing Grace's cyborg nature and love of implants she could just as easily have an implant like this (assuming it isn't something equally as sci-fi like transmitting her thoughts into speech over the com-link). One thing that makes me think she is speaking to Leon there is how she is holding her hand to her temple while she is trying to look like she is asleep or resting. It seems almost identical to how she held her hand to her head in ep. 6 when she received the call about Galaxy being attacked on her implant phone which is in her head. Quote

mike_s_6 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 (edited) About the Klan Klan blog, I don't want to rain on the parade, but who said that it's official? I have a strong hunch that a fan made that. Just look at the blog entry. "Hi, Klan Klan here. I am Mikhail's girlfriend." AND worst of all, at the bottom of the post... GOOGLE ADVERTISEMENTS?! The only official ones are Ranka's and Sheryl's, as displayed in MacrossF.com I suppose, as a preventive measure, the staff of Macross F reserved the Alto blog just in case a fan decides to "make" his blog. About Sheryl, I don't think she was sneaky, I even think it's just clever of her. She remembered Alto's dream of wanting to fly in an endless sky, you have a girl who listens and remembers, my dears. The moment she remembered that Gallia had an atmosphere, she immediately linked it to Alto! If there was anyone who made a wrong move, I think it's partly Alto. He should have called. Perhaps he knew that Ranka has a crush on him and didn't want to be straightforward, so he sent someone else. But he should have spared her from going to her desired meeting place and seeing no Alto. That would have at least been kind. As for the gifts, if I were Alto, I would have chosen Sheryl's also. It was a chance of a lifetime. Besides, it's his birthday, I suppose he'd rather fly, than go to someone else's designated meeting place, or go to his father who doesn't want him to be happy. I think Ranka took it very well, and that's why my heart goes to her also. Edited June 21, 2008 by mike_s_6 Quote
Shun Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 How can Ranka go with Alto to Galia IV when Alto is already on it with Sheryl once Sheryl falls sick, if anything it's Michael who takes Ranka there. Will be hilarious if the spoilers were stuffed up and it's Alto and Sheryl crash landing + a good long talk, especially since Ranka fans are hyping this moment up. Remember Luca was saying it will take 1 day to go there but 1 week to come back. And according to spoilers it's Michael and Sheryl who go looking for Alto and Ranka so it makes sense for Michael to be the one taking Ranka there. Maybe thats why the episode is titled "Fastest Delivery"? Eitherway, there must be some story between Alto and Ranka to spice up the triangle yeah? so the private time between these 2 is probably true. A friend of mine pointed out that Sheryl's the one who's really thinking of Alto in this situation. ... That still doesn't let Alto off the hook for not calling her, of course. yeah the first thing on my mind about Sheryl's b-day gift is that she truly thinks for Alto. as for Alto not calling Ranka, who knows, maybe its too late at night when he decided? or he didn't know how to reject her. Or he needs to rush to prepare for the flight to Galia IV? i personally dont think he's selfish like others have mentioned. The character name of Grace O'Connor was listed at the end credits of episode 10... and she never appeared... apparently. Ergo, the agent was Grace... I never said anything about the seyuu... Ltee Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 After watching the episode a few times, I have to say this was my least favorite out of all of them. I think this episode gave a glaring reminder to me as to why I'm not very fond of Alto. In my opinion, there's just not a lot of depth to him. I'm more fond of his supporting cast. I was hoping we'd get more of an understanding on what makes him tick (besides the obvious flying), his evolving relationship with Ranka & Sheryl (which after watching this episode I'm in limbo as to who he'd end up with). Perhaps I expected to much after a two week break. Anywho, back to things that happened in the episode. Alto was right when he told Sheryl that to Ranka the kiss just isn't a kiss to her back in episode 10 (her face blushed when she touched her lips remembering their on screen kiss), while to him it was just a kiss (or so it seems). I really felt for her when she was by herself with that green squirrel at the end of the episode. Even though the cookies were bitter she wanted to give Alto a ticket to her first concert (they always say when big events happen you want the people you care about the most to share that moment with you) so for her to spend what little free time she had spending it with Alto and for him to send Michael to tell her that he wasn't coming, what uh....hmm i'd use a swear word here but I won't. Here's hoping that the next episode is more interesting! Oh and I agree with a previous poster on the almost halfway through the series and there are still a lot of questions to be answered. Quote
Zinjo Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I think both are correct... but then again I grew up with girls who had a fondness for saying 'suck my d***!' Sometimes I wish I was English; the 'C' word over there is like saying 'darn.' Clearly you were out of the LOOP... Quote

Considering we DON'T know what kind of motors are used in the cars that's a HUGE assumption. It is entirely possible that they use a micro reactor to power an electric motor with turbine blades for cooling. This is SciFi bud, anything is possible. Mr March Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 (edited) It should be noted that in Macross 7, privately owned vehicles were used in space to navigate the Milky Road between vessels of the fleet. Even Fire Bomber's van could do this. You'll note all of them had banks of vernier thrusters mounted at the front, back and underneath the vehicle (such as this picture of Milia's Limousine. You're not going to fly a car or truck around in space using a real world internal combustion engine in a vacuum EDIT Whoops, gave a local link rather than a server link. s-girl Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 (edited) A couple of comments *The "spoiler text" that appears in Wiki has been wrong from time to time. At one point it stated that the "Zero" episode would have Ranka and Sheryl starring respectively as Mao and Sara. So I take everything now with a grain of salt until the episode in question actually airs. * I think the "Alto-lack-of-character" dilemma is the theme for Alto. This episode was good because yet again, people are asking Alto whether he's just chasing after being a pilot because it's a form of rebellion (his 'brother') or running away (from Michael's mouth). Alto seems to not be sure, but we see hints that flight for him is a childhood dream. I'm annoyed that we don't have a whole lot of depth to him yet, but I believe it's coming.... perhaps with a ton of revelations at the end to his motivations and a bit more of a decision (on his part) on why he flies. And btw - who was the woman in his flashback? Mother? Note she's absent from his world at the moment -- we haven't seen any hint of her yet. Also, his father really seems to be "stifling". We've seen hints of the problems Alto had with his former environment with the words he's sometimes used to describe the sky. He really wants to be free, I think, of the expectations of others. HIs father rules his school with a harsh hand, and everyone just does what he says. I'm not sure any kid would really want to stay there without exploring the world outside. * I think if there are going to be entries in an Alto blog, it won't show up until we're further into the series, if at all. I wouldn't give viewers that much insight yet as I feel too much outside writing would take away the mysteriousness that keeps us speculating and entertained. * I'm not sure we're going to see a pairing resolution by the end of this 26 episodes. Alto hasn't given us any inclination of such, and he ultimately has to get a real clue before it's possible. From a writing standpoint it also limits possible development for a second series and should be set up as such. ( Heck if Gundam00 can do it, so can Macross but without all the angstorama.) Valkyrie addict Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 well...concerning Sheryl gift to Alto contrast to Ranka's, Alto has only opened up as person more to Sheryl than to Ranka, Alto has never told Ranka his desired to fly free in an atmosphere and his hate to Frontier for that, he also never mentioned his Kabuki background to her, remember the Zero episode when Ranka finds out about it from the directors and she asks if Sheryl knew about and she says of course she did and Luca just says that he mentioned something about it, and Ranka gets angry and leaves 'cause Alto seems to confide more in Sheryl than her so, as a fair nod to Ranka, she really doesn't Alto really well to get her what he 'really' wants, unlike Sheryl, although, I'm sure if she knew, considering she's just a kid she couldn't have done any better and I don't think Alto's being selfish, I mean, it's your bday and you're getting 3 options 1. To go back to your miserable life with your dad 2. Fulfilling a life long dream 3. Eat a pack of small airliner (which he hates airliner, remember his comment of episode 1), cookies Sheryl hit a home run either way, I still want Alto to end up with Sheryl, aside from my girlfriend who wants Alto to end up with Ranka, hahaha Quote
