Knight26 Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 I decided since this is not a Macross CG item, though elements are macross inspired, I would start a new thread for all non-macross CG here, good idea huh? ANyway, this a new Battleship design I have been working on from my books, it is as yet unnamed, but is another product of my Yamato Shipyards, which produced the Yamagata class Battlecruiser. I will post a render of the two ships together later. I ahve been working on this at work, so please excuse the poor renders, have to use ACAD R14 at work right now, ugh. Anyway the ship is far from completed, still need to equip the rest of the armaments, add more details, secondary bridges, etc... As with all my Yamato shipyards ship I will borrow design elements from Space Battelship Yamato Designs, while still staying true to my own style. THe main anti-capital ship aramanets on this bad boy are Macross inspired though, the 18 Razer-Buster turrets that cover the hull are the only armaments I have it currently equipped with. Let me know what you think. First pic: FOrward starboard quarter, eight Buster-Razor Cannons are visible here on the upper forward bow, eight more are beneath. The circular area behind them is where the ship can dock anything up to a corvette class vessel, there is one on the underside as well. Fighter launch and landing bays flank the main hull with the large launch and recovery bays partially covered for protection. Behind the corvette dock is the main observation dome, several decks high it suits a variety of functions. Aft of that is the main bridge structure, I'm liking the Yamato SHipyards seprentine Towers myself. Aft of that are two more Buster-Razer Turrets, and then of course the engines. Quote
Knight26 Posted October 29, 2003 Author Posted October 29, 2003 Second shot, please excuse the poor pic quality, R14 sucks hard. ANyway this one shows the the aft starboard quarter. Notice the engine arrangement, this beast ain't slow. Large central engine with six secondaries, four of which have reverse thrusters. The vains are a cooling and thermal radiation system. ANd don't think getting behind this thing makes a capital ships safe, two more buster-razers back there, plus smaller more conventional weapons once I mount them. Quote
Knight26 Posted October 29, 2003 Author Posted October 29, 2003 (edited) Ok, far away shot showing the underside. All those engines and weapons have some hungry power requirements so this beast has five power cores. The area right behind the power cores is another thermal radiating array, those cores generate a lot of waste heat but the cooling system is very efficient so the ship does not have as large a thermal signature as others her size. The thermal array also takes away space for two more buster-razers, but defensive turrets will go in the area to defend it. It may be an achillies heal, but its a protected one. As I said the ship is as of now unnamed, I am looking for a japanesse name for it, any suggestions, for some reason right now I am stuck on AKira character names, probably because the other Yamato ship was the Yamagata. Right now I am thinking either the Akira, Tetsuo, or Kaneda class. I am open to suggestions though. Oh, the ship comes in at a little over 5000 feet in length, not quite a mile long, big by real world and my standards, like I said this battleship is a behemoth. EXO Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 Wow, Sean!!! Those are beautiful ships! You jumped light years ahead of your other designs. Too bad about the rendering... Quote
Knight26 Posted October 29, 2003 Author Posted October 29, 2003 Ok, now to the Macross inspired portion, the Buster-Razer Turret. I know its not the most accurately modeled Zentraedi laser, but it is inspired by it. Considering the lousy thumbnail I worked from it didn't come out too bad, especially for an inspired work. Anyway the beam emitter has a 51 foot bore to it, big yes I know, but this is an anti-capital weapon, one of the few that is turreted in my books. For a sense of scale I put a little block figure in there of a 6 foot tall man, the little blue guy. To say this is a big gun would be an understatement. To imagine the destructive potential of these weapons, a single blast will destroy (obliterate) any corvette sized vessel (~500' long), leaving only scattered particles behind. Larger craft might be able to sustain a couple hits if their shields and armor are strong enough, but a good solid hit will take down even a large carrier. What is a big deal about these Buster-Razers is that they are turreted, and only the Yamato Shipyards ships fit them. All other Razer cannons are keel mounted so the whole ship has to be brought to bear on a target in order to engage with them. Razers, even Buster-Razers have a very long recycle time however due to the power requirements and need to dissipate the heat and back feed energy generated. Buster-Razers are tunable though so they can fire multiple lowered powered blasts, and have a seconday beam function, but that requires swapping out internal components and is time consuming, not something done during combat usually. Well let me know what you think, as the design progress' I'll throw up more shots. The finished product should really kick, this thing is already way beyond where I started monday, man that version sucked. Quote
Knight26 Posted October 29, 2003 Author Posted October 29, 2003 To give you an idea of how it has progressed and changed, here is what it originally looked like on monday. And Exo, what are you talking about, I love all my designs, true some are not as pretty, but they are warships remember. Just messing with your bud, I admit my designs have come a long way and some need redesigns, but some will just continue to be refined, like the Wolfsbane, man I love that ship. It's one of my first designs, not sure if I ever posted a pic of her, will have to do so. Anyway here is how this battleship started life, horrible isn't it? Quote
Knight26 Posted October 30, 2003 Author Posted October 30, 2003 Tonight's progress, added the secondary bridges on the underside, will show those later. Also added the standard model GF heavy turrets, around 50 or so of them total. Will add the smaller anti-fighter defense turrets later. After that will be adding the little details, antennae, radar domes, etc... and then attach all the textures. Any other ideas of what needs to be added? Well this progress shot shows it with its little brother, the Yamagata class cruisers, usually it would travel with four to six of these things, plus corvettes, all made in Yamato Shipyards. Let me know what you think. Quote
cobywan Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 Here is my Rhino model. I hope to use a friend's CNC router to cut out a model of it. http://home.comcast.net/~cobywan/Images/En.../Assembly30.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~cobywan/Images/En.../Assembly26.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~cobywan/Images/En.../CNC_test01.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~cobywan/Templates...erprise_CGI.htm Quote
CaptRico Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 Awesome renderings of the Enterprise, man! I love em!^^ Quote
Knight26 Posted October 30, 2003 Author Posted October 30, 2003 Very Nice Enterprise, what material does your friend's CNC router use? And how much would he charge to make other models, just curious. Quote
cobywan Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Thanks for the compliments. The router hasn't been purchased. My friend is taking a trip to Toronto Saturday to check it out before he buys it. It can cut out hard wood and probably can cut Ren Shape pattern board. I am going to cut really hard foam for my models. I can find out what he is going to charge per hour. But if the designs are simila to your posted models above I would suggest building up the shapes put of sheet material. But if they are round or organic then the router would be ideal. Quote
Knight26 Posted October 31, 2003 Author Posted October 31, 2003 Sounds cool Cobywan. As for building them myself, my modeling skills are no where near good enough, in my opinion, plus limited building space. Quote
Knight26 Posted November 1, 2003 Author Posted November 1, 2003 Finished, well not really, need to add some details, but will back burner for a while. I also did not add the smaller defense turrets right now. The reason being, I did a test fit and well, i couldn't see them unless I zoomed way in. They are pretty small in comparison to the rest of that behemoth. So I've decided to say that they are retractable, and then when I make a shot that needs them I will insert them. I know its lazy, but when I added them the model size got huge and my computer did not appreciate it, lol. Anyway here are the pics. Quote
Knight26 Posted November 1, 2003 Author Posted November 1, 2003 Ok, they're hard to see, but the two lower brudges are visible in this shot. Quote
Knight26 Posted November 1, 2003 Author Posted November 1, 2003 The Captain's view, impressive amount of firepower eh? Quote
Knight26 Posted November 1, 2003 Author Posted November 1, 2003 Chase camera view, them's some big engines. Quote
Knight26 Posted November 1, 2003 Author Posted November 1, 2003 And now for something completely different, three examples of the new textures I've put onto my Splicer 1000s. Three models shown here, from left to right, recon, fighter, trainer. Quote
Knight26 Posted November 4, 2003 Author Posted November 4, 2003 Another new Yamato shipyard ship. This time a corvette/Gunship. It's armed with four single gun HyperPLASERS, 14 dual gun anti-fighter turrets, 10 torpedo launchers, and an advanced bow mounted beam cannon design. The beam cannon is unique to this class and is extremely powerful, but causes a massive energy drain during prolonged use. These corvettes are used mainly to escort the larger Battleships, two can dock to each of the Battleships extrenal landing/docking pads. More can then dock to other docking ports near the flight decks. The ship is based off of old submarine designs. I think it came out pretty nifty myself, may add some anntenna and such later, what do you think? Quote
Knight26 Posted November 4, 2003 Author Posted November 4, 2003 Bow Shot, big beam cannon array. Quote
Knight26 Posted November 4, 2003 Author Posted November 4, 2003 Two Corvettes on the upper pad, still need to name both these classes. At this point I'm thinking of naming them after either anime characters or creators, any suggestions? Quote
Lightning Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 Focker-class, and Ichijyo-class. and for the big 'un u can name it the Jenius-class! Quote
