Seto Kaiba Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) Thanks I've been gathering info about the 2036 and ELS mecha. Ah, there's certainly an interesting history to many of them... I've invested a lot of time (and a fair bit of money) digging up each and every little scrap of information I can find about the alternate universe timeline. I'm building a website that, when completed, will do for the alternate universe what the Macross Compendium and Macross Mecha Manual did for the main continuity. I've also contributed a lot of information to the Macross Mecha Manual's Macross II section. I've noticed VF development in the Big West timeline was slower. VF--->VF-1R series--->VF-4 Siren--->VF-XX Zentran--->VF-2SS, VF-2JA --->VF-1MS Metal Siren. Actually... your progression's a bit off... the VF-1R is actually the "VF-1 Kai", the VF-4 isn't an ancestor of the VF-XX, the VF-2JA isn't a direct descendant of the VF-XX, and the Metal Siren's an attack plane, not a fighter, and is essentially not linked to the VF-2SS at all... it's complicated, and there's actually a really good (and kind of blatantly obvious) reason there were essentially no new designs between 2014 and 2054. But Zentradi/Meltrandi mecha is more varied in the Big West timeline. Well, the reasons for that are twofold... first, the Neld and Burado fleets were using a more diverse selection of mecha than the Boddole Zer fleet, and second, Quamzin apparently designed at least two new types of mecha for them based on his experiences on Earth. Repiv_Onex Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 A short question. Although it won't be necessary for a VF to do so, but still, is it possible for a VF in gerwalk mode on the ground to transform into battroid mode(or vice versa) without falling/losing balance?

Although it won't be necessary for a VF to do so, but still, is it possible for a VF in gerwalk mode on the ground to transform into battroid mode(or vice versa) without falling/losing balance? Well on top of my head is Macross Dynamite 7 where Liza transformed her VF-5000 from Gerwalk mode to Battroid mode to talk to her giant father and SDFM episode 2 with Hikaru and the VF-1D.

Thank You.
Master Dex Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 /salute All we need in the newbie thread is people with Photographic memory like yours. Thank You. On top of that from Macross Frontier ep.2 Ozma does that in an armored VF-25S, which is even heavier. So it sounds like valkyrie balance systems are very well made.
VFTF1 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 or, "Minna, dakishimeté! Ginga no...haté madé! (accents added to make pronunication clearer) As for the translation, well, I have yet to see an English version that doesn't sound odd. The first sentence has no object, so it could be "Everyone, hold me!" or possibly "Everyone, hold each other!" The second sentence is "Until the edge of the galaxy!" No matter how you look at it, it doesn't make much sense... Makes perfect sense to me... In Poland, there is a saying which translates as " 'Till the End of the World - and one day longer!" - it's been used mainly by a charity program that runs every year to raise money for medical treatment of children. They always play concerts and have a big money raising thing - and they always shout "We're gonna play until the End of the World - and one day longer!" So - when I heard (well, read the sub) of Ranka saying "Hold me until the end of the Galaxy!!" I pretty much understood it to be kind of like this earlier slogan, which also has a bit of a twisted logic to it... In Ranka's case, it essentially means - "We're gonna spread this message to the far reaches of the galaxy/we're gonna spread this song" - the idea is to catch hold of her - in your heart, in your thoughts, - and "her" meaning her song and the heart in her songs and "ride" it to the end of the galaxy. I really love that little catch phrase of hers. It's great Pete

Gubaba Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 "Musume ['Girl'] Service Medley"...? Is that a porno or something? If you mean the Nyan-Nyan Service Medley, versions of it are on both the OST2 and the Vocal Collection, both of which should be easy enough to find.
RedWolf Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 VF-X2 questions. The compendium confuses me. Let me get this straight Mariafokina Barnrose with Vindirance are the good guys. The bad guys are Timoshie Daldahnton of Black Rainbow, Manfred Brando of Critical Path Corporation, and Wilbur Garland and Syun Tohma of UN Spacy.
sketchley Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 VF-X2 questions. It actually depends on the choice that you make in mission 9. If you take the A route (thereby getting missions 10a, 11a, & 12), then yes, she's one one of the good guys. If you choose the B route (thereby getting mission 10b), she's the bad guy, and Wilbur Garland and Shun Touma are good guys. Funny thing... despite beating the game, many times, in the A route (even at the insane difficulty level), I can't beat it in the B route! Back to back dog fighting vs. Mariafokina and Gilliam are frustratingly difficult...
RedWolf Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Been going over VF-X2 videos and the Compendium at the Anti-UN ships. Am I correct to assume that the Atlantic class attack ship is the class designation of the Vandal?
sketchley Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) ãƒ©ã‚¯ãƒ†ãƒ³ã‚¹å·¨å¤§ãƒ™ãƒ¼ãƒ æ”»æ’ƒç ²è‰¦ VANDAL~ブァンダル~ aka ãƒ™ãƒ¼ãƒ ç ²è‰¦ Nope. Atlantic Class is something else. Maybe it's http://home.online.no/~smpeders/ind-sh52.htm ? EDIT: hmmm... the entry in the compendium is odd. (Referring to this one, of course: http://macross.anime.net/mecha/index.html ). Both of the VF-X2 books, Kazutaka Miyatake Design Works, and even the booklet that comes with the game make absolutely no mention regarding the class. Odd thing is that on pg 61 of Macross VF-X2 Visual Clue Guide, アトランティック級戦艦 is written. The corresponding part of the mission is the attack on the ãƒ©ã‚¯ãƒ†ãƒ³ã‚¹å·¨å¤§ãƒ™ãƒ¼ãƒ æ”»æ’ƒç ²è‰¦ãƒ–ã‚¡ãƒ³ãƒ€ãƒ«... It's quite contradictory... I also hold the book in a bit of doubt, as there is at least one, really obvious visual typo in a different part of the book. Edited May 15, 2009 by sketchley
RedWolf Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Yeah Atlantic class attack ship right next to the Hachet class destroyer. All above Hatchet are seagoing or submersible. Hatchet class destroyer Also in the VF-X2 Moby Dick stage it has Attacker written over it. That is why I'm asking if there is a connection with the Vandal. Edited May 15, 2009 by RedWolf

Charlie4 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Think I've got the right thread this time around. I'd really like to purchase the soundtrack for Macross if it's still available online, however I want to make sure I buy the right collection. What album has the full instrumental version of "Runner"? Having seen only SDF Macross so far, that's my favorite ballad of the bunch.

If so, your best bet is "Macross the Complete," which is a 3-CD set. The second disc has karaoke versions of all the songs. Otherwise, there's the 25th Anniversary Cd Single Box Set (9 CDs this time, but each one has only four or five songs on it).

Yep, that's the karaoke version. Available on Macross the Complete or the 25th Anniversary Box Set. If you liked the music for the series, I highly recommend Macross the Complete. If you've seen the sequels, and you like the opening and ending themes, get the 25th Anniversary set.
derex3592 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Sooo....as a long time reader and very new poster to this site, I took the plunge today and ordered the "Complete Macross" Box set off Amazon today. I own and have watched DYRL many times, but never the original series. Only the dreaded "Robo"-word since back in '85! LOL! So hopefully I will have fun and be entertained on a new level as I can play with all my new 1:60 Yamato stuff and watch the original Macross for the first time!

Thanks for your help! I'll be sure to check them out. I like the fact that they released karaoke versions of the songs. Very cool. Most be popular in Japan? (karaoke that is) derex3592: Oh man, you're going to love watching them in their original format! I've just got into the series some 27? years after the release and it's now one of my favorites. Can't wait to watch DYRL (just for completion sake) and Macross Plus next. Oh, and flashback if I can find it. Edited May 19, 2009 by Charlie4
Funkenstein Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Is there a reason why the VF-25's are two-seaters but are only piloted by one person?
Scream Man Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 The second seat is an optional passenger seat, it isnt required for flight.
anime52k8 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Is there a reason why the VF-25's are two-seaters but are only piloted by one person? the VF-25 is a single seater with a jump seat. the person in back is basically a passenger although there are duplicate controls presumably for emergencies. there are probably a whole host of in universe justifications but th real world reason is that it's more continent to the plot then having to bust out a special 2 seat variant or have the person sitting in the pilot's lap.
Funkenstein Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 So, even when its using the armor kit , with those omnidirectional beam cannons, theres no need for a copilot? Actually, Ive never seen the VF-25 use those cannons...

VFTF1 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Ok - I dunno where to put this question. It's not a newbie question - it's specifically to do with SDFM: TV- but it's so relatively straight forward that I figured it's not going to give birth to a ten page discussion - and there's no reason to stick it elsewhere... In episode 1 of SDFM: TV, when Hikaru is hit and falling to the ground - just before Misa saves him - he has a blurry "life flashes before my eyes/flashback to a moment of life" scene where he sees himself tailing Roy in propeller planes. Does the back of Roy's yellow propeller plane Say "Kawamori" on it? And why? Pete

Actually, Ive never seen the VF-25 use those cannons... Much like the YF-19's forward wing root guns seen for only a brief 2-3 second sequence in Macross Plus, the VF-25S APS-25A/MF25 Armored Messiah's beam cannons are seen in use for only a few seconds as the valkyrie is flying in fighter mode. I can't recall the episode in which the beam cannons are shown firing, but they are seen, however briefly.
Macross007 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 One thing I never understood in Macross 7 was how Max Jenius was always referred to as "Captain" of the Macross 7 fleet. Since he was the commanding officier of a fleet and not just a ship, Rear, Vice or simply Admiral would have made more sense since only a flag officier can command a fleet in general. I think so at least. Anyone has the same opinion ?

Kind of like how, in episode 9 of SDFM, Global is referred to by his real rank (Commodore), but at all other times is "Captain."
RedWolf Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I believe Max's rank at the time of Macross 7 was Colonel. Which kind of explains why in Macross 7 and Macross 7 Trash why he can't just have Barton's or Bacelon's head in a platter as they were of the same rank.

And since "captain" is a rank equal to a "colonel" of the army and the air force, no problem there. Edited May 26, 2009 by Macross007
