I'd check the yellow pages; there has to be a ton of Anime stores there.

BTW; count your blessings. I live in Louisville, KY. I'm lucky to bump into folks who even know what Anime is! :o

I just got back from a weekend in NY and that is one great city!!!

There is the http://www.toytokyo.com/ store near St. Marks place that was pretty good, although the only Macross item found was a weird barbie style Hikaru Ichijo Rick.... *_* but they did have the 1/4 size Cloud figure for $400!!!

There was also a video game store that rocked! Its http://www.videogamesnewyork.com/?page_id=87&category=40 and it had a good selection of import games and 3 foot tall Mario out front!!

Plus I highly recommend going to see the Murakami exibit

If you ever take the Chinatown bus to Boston let me know. Gotta go to Tokyo Kid http://tokyokid.com/ they have an old VF-1J in the window.

Wraith!!! that horrible to know, so sorry :o

I'll check the game store, im not a huge gamer myself, but enjoy it every now and then....

And Murakami, yesss, I gotta go! it's just that the weather is soo nice these days that I get to the weekened and don't want to be inside at all!!! Walking NYC these time of the year is just amazing... Bars open their back yards, it's just the best!

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Image Anime is the only place in Manhattan that I've been to with Macross items, but it's been years since I've been there (I thought they were moving to Queens, but I'm apparently wrong).

Supposedly, Forbidden Planet has Macross stuff, so you might want to check that out. If you stop by, let us know what they have. It used to be a cool store even without Macross toys, so it's worth checking out anyway. Thanks!

I hear you about not wanting to 'Stand Clear Of The Closing Doors PLEASE' <--great automated recording. Not worth being indoors and the bars/restau's did have the cool quality of having hidden outdoor areas. If you go to Murakami, there is a Greek spot that has a pretty nice outdoor area hidden away. It's across the intersection at the corner by the Water Fountain opposite side of the street.

His book is $65 and its crammed with his whole life story, influences and thougths behind his work. Lots of fun. ;)

If you hit that other figure store give us an update (Image Anime or Forbidden Planet, thanks Sturmvogel). Let us know how it is, I'd like to go back soon and would like to see more spots in the city and Get some Macross Valuable Items!!

I was in Forbidden Planet some 2 months ago, and I recall seeing lots of cool stuff in the back of the store, but no Macross. They did have a very big Mazinger figure, statues of various comics and movies, some Revoltech, some optional Armored Core weapon kits and some Gundam FIX. But that's just the stuff that got my attention, there was a lot more. I recall this rather old couple seeing some FFVIII statues and saying 'that's soooo coool!!'.

I was in Image Anime last weekend, staring at the Ghostbooster for my VF-0, but left empty handed, and with a lot of dread! ahahahhaaaa I got a sudden 'buyer-cowardness' that made me leave the store.... I might pick it up later, dunno....

other nice stuff I saw were the VF-19 1/60, some old VF-21s (i assume it was not the new one, the box had a clear window....) a single Max VF-1 1/60... but check their website if you want to know more, they do have a full catalog there.....

Long time reader... first time registered user and first post!

If you ever find yourselves in the Chinatown area of NYC, there's a couple of spots that have been around for a few years... Luckily they're both on next to each other.

If you head over down to Elizabeth St, near the 5th NYPD Police Precinct, there's a non-descript mall with a couple of pharmacies out front. If you head inside, you'll see some escalators heading down into the basement. Once you get down, its like a whole different world... apparently its a typical HK style mall full of cutesy type things for the girls, and some vid games and model shops for the guys. The last time I was there, they had a whole bunch of revoltechs for sale, but not much else macross-wise. Apparently Gundams sell better in these areas. Stock changes often, I haven't been there for a month. The guy minding the shop said more stuff coming in August, might have more Macross available then. Address is 13-17 Elizabeth St if you want to google map it.

Another spot is right on the same street, street level - looks like a magazine shop, but once you walk in, you're hit with Gundams, plastic toys, and some transformers. When I was there, they had a SV51 Ivanov for sale - too rich for my blood - in addition to some 1/100's, a few 1/144's from god knows when, and the revoltechs as well. Not the best prices, but an assortment of non-us toys. Plus sports collectibles too. I don't remember if they compare better or worse than imageanime as far as pricing.

Anyways, I'm sure there's more hidden stores along the way, just not that adventurous to find out what they have. I always make it a point to stop by and look around these 2 stores whenever I'm downtown. True story - walked in on a poker game in a store, I guess they didn't expect to have any business at all on a Sat. afternoon.

If anyone else finds a good place in the 5 boros, please post! Happy hunting!

Oh, and BTW, how the heck can I change my displayed name on the board???
