Urzu7 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Lovely, my last 3 binders just came. There goes $40 in shipping fees. Unless you have issues with paying the ridiculous international shipping rate, Amazon still has them. What about custom taxes?
Seto Kaiba Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) If anything, the wheels are based off of those in the VOTOMS. Which, as it predates MII, is possibly also the source for those destroids, too. Yeah, and there are other shows that used mecha with wheeled feet out right around the time development started on Macross Zero... like Blue Gender. Yep, you will be happy, it is Macross II destroids. No hard stats though. If they've fallen back on just harvesting data from the old artbooks, I wouldn't expect any. Still, I'll take what I can get. Beltane70 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 What about custom taxes? If the binders are listed as books, they're exempt from custom taxes in the US.

I expected the Mac II Destroids to be bigger, well except the Monster.
azrael Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 If the binders are listed as books, they're exempt from custom taxes in the US. Yep. The binders are listed as "Magazine" (which falls in the Books/Magazine category).
Gubaba Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Lovely, my last 3 binders just came. There goes $40 in shipping fees. Unless you have issues with paying the ridiculous international shipping rate, Amazon still has them. Just ordered it from Kinokuniya this evening. Should be arriving there in a few weeks.
Seto Kaiba Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 The size comparison with the VF-1J is interesting though. I expected the Mac II Destroids to be bigger, well except the Monster. What little information I've seen indicates that they ought to be around the same size as the original destroids, with the exception of the Giant Monster. What exactly does the size comparison show? *Hasn't got that issue yet*
sharky Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I managed to get my order thru before they all went from the HMV site. Hopefully this means they'll have my binders already set aside when they ship in a few months time. I think they do physically pull them out of stock and hold them. I ordered 3 binders from HMV about a week before they sold out. I also ordered a copy of Macross: The First, and my order was held up to wait for the manga to come in. I just got my shipping notice last evening that all 3 binders and the manga have shipped.
MastaEgg Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Has there ever been a character sheet on Claudia? I'm curious if there's a relation between her and that really awesome dude from Macross Zero (I'm talking about Edgar, not Roy of course )
Gubaba Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Has there ever been a character sheet on Claudia? I'm curious if there's a relation between her and that really awesome dude from Macross Zero (I'm talking about Edgar, not Roy of course ) Yes there have been character sheets for Claudia. There's even been one for Edgar. The magazine is silent about any connection or lack thereof.
sketchley Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 This is wierd... no one's posted the contents of #38 yet. Contents #37: VF-171EX: with the RVF-171 and both varients of the armour pack on the back. It looks to me like the medium-bore beam guns in the arms of the VF-17 are present in the VF-171EX (the VF-171, too?) The data block has: two sets of guns (machineguns and beam cannons). All the missiles (including wing-missiles) are given names. Why couldn't this data be on the VF-171 sheet, too?! UN Spacy Transport Planes/aircraft contains: Stargoose (no booster!), Tunny, Mom's Kitchen, Avenger II, Dragon II, Sea Sergeant, Commanchiro and an extra report on the Karyobin (what? the helicopters are getting short shrift!) VF-11 Thunderbolt: is the VF-11D Kai Jamming Bird Special Use craft. Complete with a data block. They appear to have missed the internal weapon bays in the nacelle packs... >.< Poaching Group Naval Vessels: most of the attention is payed to the mothership. But the fishing vessel and two other space going ships are featured. Noputi Baganis 5631: DYRL version of Buritai's ship. A sheet. Macross Frontier NUNS people: Catherine Glass, pilot, operator, Jun, crew, Maruyama and Soldier. B sheet. Hopefully Miss Glass will get more... Grace O'conner: special report on the 117th fleet and Ranshe Mei. Jamming Birds: looks like all of them on one sheet. Sadly, the personal info from the ?history? sheet isn't on this sheet. Timeline: end of M7. History: First Contact B sheet (Max in Zentraadi uniform in the ship, etc.) History: SWI: DYRL version. Looks like the entire movie is covered in the one sheet. World Guide Sheet: The Galactic Thought Connection Network Plan: groovy chart on the back that shows all thought being controlled by one person! And how it's done! Tech: EX-gear: how the gear becomes the cockpit seat (nice chart), EX gear system abilities, and the craft that can use it. Glossary: MII content: Sylvie Jiinaa. Gubaba Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 This is wierd... no one's posted the contents of #38 yet. That's because they were really late updating the website. As of late last night for me (about six hours ago), they still hadn't added the new issue. But sometime between then and now, they did. So here ya go: Mechanic Sheet * Queadluun-Rau * Super Valkyrie * Destorid * Zentradi Vessels * Macross Frontier Vessels Character Sheet * Milia 639 * Gor Bodolzaa and Subordinate(s) * Natter Valgo / GaviGlaGo Timeline Sheet * Chance Meeting with the Galactic Whales History Sheet * Defection of the Zentradi Soldiers World Guide Sheet * Protodeviln Technology Sheet * Variable Fighter Glossary Sheet * Seikan Hikrou ~ Dagao Song Sheet * Planet Dance / My Soul for You Production Data * Macross F
Seto Kaiba Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 / VF-171EX: with the RVF-171 and both varients of the armour pack on the back. Because that'd be too easy? I'd be inclined to say the reason the VF-171EX is getting much more attention than the plain vanilla VF-171 is because it's the only version of the Nightmare Plus to see serious combat as something other than just cannon fodder for the Vajra to blow up while they wait for SMS's VF-25s to arrive, and because the EX model is the only variant of the VF-171 that actually gets piloted by members of the main cast (Alto and Luca). Doesn't hurt my feelings any that they saved the good stuff for the VF-171EX sheet... it was breaking my heart to see the only design from Macross 7 that I actually liked so cruelly treated by Kawamori and company early in the series. VF-11 Thunderbolt: is the VF-11D Kai Jamming Bird Special Use craft. Complete with a data block. They appear to have missed the internal weapon bays in the nacelle packs... >.< Bleh... why was THIS worth a sheet at all? Couldn't they have just made this like a D sheet (lol) for the normal VF-11C sheet instead? Noputi Baganis 5631: DYRL version of Buritai's ship. A sheet. If the VF-171EX article hadn't justified my purchase of issue 37, this sure did. Macross Frontier NUNS people: Catherine Glass, pilot, operator, Jun, crew, Maruyama and Soldier. B sheet. Hopefully Miss Glass will get more... Does the fabled Machida get a face? Can't say I care much about Kakizaki Lite, but Catherine Glass probably deserved her own character sheet, even if it was only just the one sheet. Timeline: end of M7. And everyone breathed a sigh of relief... at least until they start in with the VF-1 sheets again. History: SWI: DYRL version. Looks like the entire movie is covered in the one sheet. If only they had thrown in a Metal Siren or Icarus mechanic sheet, I would've considered this issue a rousing success... but I guess I just get to keep crossing my fingers and saying "It'll be in the next one". World Guide Sheet: The Galactic Thought Connection Network Plan: groovy chart on the back that shows all thought being controlled by one person! And how it's done! Okay, mildly curious... just looked like a bunch of feather-like network structures to me when it was done in the show... any goodies about the application of fold quartz in this one? Glossary: MII content: Sylvie Jiinaa. Super Parts (as all other sans MO are mentioned, I don't think this counts as unique MII content) Y'know what... I'll take my victories where I can get them... and any Macross II coverage at all is good coverage in my book... so long as they take the time to get their facts straight. Queadlunn-Rau (SDFM?) Super Valkyrie (SDFM?) Destroid (???) Zentraadi Naval vessels (???) Macross Frontier Fleet Hey azrael... it's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack... Wondering what the "Zentradi Naval Vessels" business is... we've covered most of it already. Maybe this is the DYRL versions? Or, dare I hope, the modified U.N. Spacy versions from Macross II? Nah, better not get my hopes up. Miria 639 Gor Bodolza and Subordinates (image is from DYRL) Natta Balgo / Gabigurago 'kay, I can get in on all this DYRL material... this is good.
Gubaba Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 ...the hell? I swear I didn't see that Sketchley had put the contents of issue 38 in his post until now...but I don't see an "edit" note...weird.
sketchley Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Bleh... why was THIS worth a sheet at all? Couldn't they have just made this like a D sheet (lol) for the normal VF-11C sheet instead? Technically it's the "C" sheet of the VF-11C. Does the fabled Machida get a face? Can't say I care much about Kakizaki Lite, but Catherine Glass probably deserved her own character sheet, even if it was only just the one sheet. Nope. I agree that Catherine glass should have got a full page, not half. Seems to me like they're really skimping on MF character detail. Or is it simply that there isn't that much background detail for these characters? LOL Me thinks it's probably because there's a plethora of other publications covering MF characters these days there's no need for it. Nevertheless, it's surprising that all of the NUNS characters and Zentraadi characters in MF are covered in only 3 sheets! Okay, mildly curious... just looked like a bunch of feather-like network structures to me when it was done in the show... any goodies about the application of fold quartz in this one? Yup. Fold quartz is mentioned quite a bit on the page. Wondering what the "Zentradi Naval Vessels" business is... we've covered most of it already. Maybe this is the DYRL versions? Or, dare I hope, the modified U.N. Spacy versions from Macross II? Nah, better not get my hopes up. Probably the DYRL version. But you never know.
sketchley Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 ...the hell? I swear I didn't see that Sketchley had put the contents of issue 38 in his post until now...but I don't see an "edit" note...weird. It was there. All of it except for the Destroid sheet in the mechanics section. (Which is funny, how it appears in Sato's quote of my post!) Anyhow, about that Destroid sheet. Me thinks it's the M0 Destroids. You know, I think I'm starting to notice an alarming trend: material in MC is starting to get truncated and crammed in. A real shame...
Seto Kaiba Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Technically it's the "C" sheet of the VF-11C. If it didn't have that Sound Force hardware on it... I'd probably be a lot kinder to it as a design. I like the head turret rather more than the stock VF-11C, though the "double bubble" canopy kind of bothers me. Yeah... unfortunately for those of us who aren't collecting all the various Macross Frontier publications, it's kind of an embuggerance to have so little detail on a character that does play a reasonably significant role in the series. I'm not surprised that they've covered all the New U.N. Spacy characters in only three sheets, they REALLY took the piss out of the NUNS in Macross Frontier to play up how awesome the resident PMC is. Probably the DYRL version. But you never know. Eh, as much as I'd like to see a Nupetiet-Vergnitzs sheet for the 2092 U.N. Spacy version with those massive launch arm systems under the main hull, I doubt they'll cover it in more than one side of a sheet... there's just not enough art of it to swing it any other way. It was there. All of it except for the Destroid sheet in the mechanics section. (Which is funny, how it appears in Sato's quote of my post!) I'm magic like that...
azrael Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Mechanic Sheet * Queadluun-Rau * Super Valkyrie * Destorid * Zentradi Vessels * Macross Frontier Vessels 1) More???? 2) Grrrr...Argh.... So...anybody wanna buy me a roundtrip plane ticket to Japan to kill Chronicle editor(s) drag Chronicle editor(s) out on the street, poison them, Rider-kick them, shoot them, run them over with a truck, chop up the body parts and shove them into some Yamato VF-1s? 3) Can they be a bit more specific? 4) Running out of room I see... 5) As long as it has a better name than "Stealth Cruiser", I'll be there. Timeline Sheet * Chance Meeting with the Galactic Whales Well, if they didn't spend so much time with SDFM, we'd have a longer M7 section...... Technology Sheet * Variable Fighter So what do they have left to talk about?
Seto Kaiba Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 2) Grrrr...Argh.... Uh-oh... I sense impending retribution in the form of ten more VF-1A sheets. Hey Chronicle writer guys... if I tranq him before he beats you, can I please have my Metal Siren sheet and Valkyrie II B-sheet soon? So what do they have left to talk about? Alternate universe VF designs? I dunno... it'd make my day if they did.
Gubaba Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 So what do they have left to talk about? Well, look at it this way: we've got Technology Sheets 01A, B, C, E, F, G, K, M, N, and O. So already, that's sheets D, H, I, J, and L that are missing. And O only carries VF development up to the early 2040s, so there should be a P sheet as well.
UN Spacy Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 How many Macross Frontier VF's have been drawn by Tenjin Hidetaka for the cover of Chronicles? Please tell me there's a NEW Art of Valkyries on the way. It's amazing compared to the CGI line art. Case in point. The VF-171 EX.
Graham Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 VF-171EX: with the RVF-171 and both varients of the armour pack on the back. Both varients? I'm only seeing one type of armor pack for the VF-171EX, in Chonicles, in other source books and in the anime. Can you elaborate? Graham
Seto Kaiba Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 How many Macross Frontier VF's have been drawn by Tenjin Hidetaka for the cover of Chronicles? Please tell me there's a NEW Art of Valkyries on the way. It's amazing compared to the CGI line art. Case in point. The VF-171 EX. However many covers have been done for VFs, I think... I'm pretty sure he was doing all or at least most of the cover art... so there's been a good ~30 issues worth or thereabouts. I was kind of disappointed by what he did with the VF-2SS, but some of his other stuff's quite good. That is a particularly dynamic looking VF-171EX.
sketchley Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Both varients? I'm only seeing one type of armor pack for the VF-171EX, in Chonicles, in other source books and in the anime. Can you elaborate? Graham The Aruto version, and everyone elses. I did a translation of it a while ago...
azrael Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Both varients? I'm only seeing one type of armor pack for the VF-171EX, in Chonicles, in other source books and in the anime. Can you elaborate? I imagine the Chronicle is echoing the other books. There's no RVF-171EX or VF-171EXS, just VF-171EX Alto-type, VF-171EX Luca-type, and VF-171EX standard-type.
sketchley Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Found the translation (from Macross F Official Fan Book): http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/inde...g31143#msg31143 I imagine the Chronicle is echoing the other books. There's no RVF-171EX or VF-171EXS, just VF-171EX Alto-type, VF-171EX Luca-type, and VF-171EX standard-type. Yes, it's echoing other books. No, there is no VF-171EXS, but yes, there is an RVF-171EX (aka Luca's craft). So, just to clarify, the Armour Packs are: Normal Type Command Specification Type (normal type armour pack + shoulder armour packs and leg boosters).
sketchley Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 (edited) Contents #38 Mechanic: Queadlunn-Rau: SDFM. A sheet. VF-1J Super Valkyrie: SDFM. B sheet (Max, Miria, General). Not surprising given their limited on-screen time and that they are excatly the same as the TV series... Zentraadi Forces Military Vessels: DYRL. A sheet. Goru Bodoruzaa's mobile fortress. No data block... Macross Frontier Military Vessels: MF. A sheet. All 4 ships. Minimal data blocks for the 3 recycled from M7 (haven't compared them, but I'm guessing it's the same data.) Vessels are "Guantanamo Class Escort Space Carrier Maizura", "Uraga Class Two-deck style Dual Water and Space use Carrier Uraga", "Northampton Class Space Destroyer Stealth Frigate", and "Space Cruiser Stealth Cruiser". Seto Kaiba Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Contents #38 Glossary sheet: MII content: Battle Pod, Zentraadi Brainwashed Soldiers, Solar System Valkyrie Championship Series. Interesting that the Zentran entry is indicated as being applicable to all series EXCEPT Zero, Flashback 2012, and DYRL :!: Ah well, I'll take my content where I can get it... at least the Macross II material is being covered in the glossary sheet, even though we've had precious few mechanic sheets and half of the U.N. Spacy material has yet to even get touched on. Mardook Forces Weapons - the kanji used (兵器) generally refers to what Western fans term mecha. Probably the Brainwashed Zentraadi stuff. I guess it was inevitably they'd cram them all onto one sheet... though I wonder if we'll get both battlepods and powered suits on the same page, or they'll do a two-page spread for it. I'd hope for the latter, but sadly suspect the former.
Gubaba Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Characters: Vanessa / Kimu / Shammi - all 3 on the same sheet? DYRL version? Can't be. We already had their DYRL sheet (and yeah, they were all on the same page there as well). Yan Noiman (Yang Neuman) Gigiru Who, oddly enough, have the same voice actor. Tangetially, I have to say that one of the annoyances of the Manga Ent. version of Macross Plus is calling Neumann "Yang" instead of the name the creators probably intended: "Jan." It's normal Scandanavian male name, and makes a hell of lot more sense than suddenly making him half-Chinese. Rei Lovelock / Behiida Fiizu - both on the same sheet? 7G or 7D? Maybe its for The Galaxy is Calling Me or Dynamite 7...? Timeline: Vajra, attack Movin' right along, aren't we? History: Project Super Nova It's about time!
Renato Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Who, oddly enough, have the same voice actor. I thought he was half-Chinese! I'm sure I read that in the Compendium or something. OK, the VF-1J M&M valks look awful. Is there no official colour guide for them? Also, I have to say, it is funny looking at the timeline sheets up to now. Look how much they dragged out all of Macross Zero and SDF... and now they're effectively looking at their watches in sweats, just rushing right through Macross 7. I have no idea why they needed to devote entire pages to illustrations of the SV-51, the VF-0 and whatnot in those early sheets, nor what purpose describing at length Claudia's flashbacks.
Gubaba Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I thought he was half-Chinese! I'm sure I read that in the Compendium or something. Hmmm...I'm not sure to what extent you're joking here, so I'll answer seriously, and please forgive if I'm telling you something you already know or am preaching to the converted, but yeah...the Compendium says he's half-Chinese, but SOLELY because Manga Ent. decided to romanize his name as "Yang" instead of "Jan." I kind of understand why Manga did it...figuring that most Americans would be too ignorant to know that "Jan" is a Scandinavian man's name, and that the "J" is pronounced like an English "Y," but it was, I believe, a boneheaded move on their part (unless, of course, THEY were too ignorant to know...also possible, I suppose). The fact that's it's become the "official" word is kind of a shame.

Seto Kaiba Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I'll wager some good money that it won't. Are you in? If we're lucky, Chronicle might even step up and offer us a corret(ed) romanization for his name, which could clear this whole mess up altogether.
