d3v Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) yeah, finally in battroid mode. however... how many years ago was that? took so long for VF-171 to become a mainline fighter only in 2058!? Production delays probably. My theory on this is that it was developed as a more economical "stopgap" alternative to the VF-19 and possibly VF-22 using existing VF-17 production lines, parts, etc. however delays after the projects approval mean that by the time it did become the mainline fighter, the next one (VF-25) was already ready to be rolled out. Off course, it could be that the 2058 date refers to it becoming the mainline fighter for the Frontier and not the entire NUNS. I also noticed that in the ship when the egg hatched, 3 eyes were glowing in the darkness. sdf2501 Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) Just curious, but in the flashback scene where the friendly fire incident happened, can anyone tell who the enemy that they're fighting is? Is it a mech that we've seen before, either in a previous series or in a video game? Edited May 30, 2008 by sdf2501 Quote

sdf2501 Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 If that's the case, then they definitely should have gone after the Macross 7 fleet instead. Well, I think that's because the Vajira have a better sense of taste Quote
azrael Posted May 30, 2008 Author Posted May 30, 2008 I had forgotten about that and that is a good point. Talk about bonehead moves. See, there's a point to not having webcams on your laptops. Those pesky cyborgs piggy back on your wireless signal and next thing you their spying on private meetings . I have the feeling the Vajira are a Galaxy experiment gone bad ... but only time will tell Possible. On a side note, I'd like some insights on this thing: where the hell were Ozma and Luca while Alto and the others were fighting the VF27???? they all split up to patrol the area. Ozma and Luca were probably on the other side. But oh well. The story didn't need them. Alto actually handled himself pretty well against the VF-27. Dunno how some of you think he didn't do that good. Quote
Beltane70 Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Honestly, if she died in 2055, they totally hosed the art on Michel as what, a 13 year old? He looks like he's about 7. Wasn't that Mikhail and his sister and their parents graves that he looks 7? The scene just after he looks to be around 10 or so and could have easily been a few years before his sister's death. Morpheus Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 True but it still doesn't explain why Brera still didn't make the kills. He simply disable Klien Klan before moving on to the others. Brera is incarnation of Kira Yamato in Macross Universe :^^ One more thing, the Hive is a derelict Maizuru class carrier, maybe it was captured during patrol or something. And probably the Vajra use the poor crew as an egg hatchery ala Alien. Also its quite interesting to know that a VF-171 can carry a sniper rifle Quote
f1ip Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 the VF-27 thrusts are yellow yet its vapor trail its pink, i was about to say they keep reusing stuff from the past. cheap asses. Quote
taksraven Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Ok, just a few of MY thoughts on the episode before reading the rest of this thread. Firstly, EXCELLENT episode. Not much Sheryl and not much Ranka, gives the other characters a chance to be explored. (Not in THAT way!) 1. The first 23 seconds of this episode were stunning. A great start. (I did miss the "tutorials" explaining life and other factors in the Macross universe that we normally get at the start of each episode.) 2. Structure-wise, the episode reminded me of the modern BSG and the way some episodes are set out in a similar fashion there. Nothing wrong with that though. A more modern style of storytelling than the traditional linear one. 3. I think that the little green THREE EYED alien roaming Frontier must have a pretty big connection to the Vajra. Especially since we saw the three eyes glowing at us from the eggs inside the damaged cruiser. 4. Eggs on abandoned spaceships? What is going on here? I half expected a facehugger to come flying out. This is a strange anime series in a lot of ways and it continues to get stranger. Maybe the Vajra need human hosts or food? 5. Nice to see that Captain Harmonica was not having it all his own way this time. Got his leg blasted off and nearly had his arse kicked. 6. Cool mecha porn this episode. Should keep the fan-boys happy. A bit of footage recycling, but who can blame them. The footage IS fantastic. 7. Loved Klan bitchslapping the Valkyrie. Fun stuff. 8. The worst animation in the episode was the long shot of the military meeting, from above, where Cathy and Leon clearly had NO FACES. And the camera was zooming in closer to the Faceless Ones. Spooky. 9. Two words - SHIRTLESS BOBBY!!!!! And now I have to go and ruin this post by covering it with black stuff. Taksraven Quote

Zinjo Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Now we are getting some answers, so NUNS would seems to go back to just a couple years after the Varuta War.... very close to the events of VF-X2 indeed (which was 2050). the flashback whith Klan is around ten years, but the Friendly Fire incident date is only four year earlier, according to the grave of Michel`s sister That is more like it. If the events of VF-X2 were the catalyst for a civil war or at least a breakdown in the alliance with some colonies, then it would take some time for the political climate to re-stabilize, be it a cold war or whatever... I tend to believe somehow Eden would be at the center of a cold war situation, being the oldest of the colony worlds. Quote
Chronocidal Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Well.. wow. This series continues to surprise me, over and over again. I really did like the more tight timing of this, with the nonlinear stuff and flashbacks... made for great teasers of what was to come. Sooooo many little side plots that are all intertwining, and conspiracy theories all over the place. One thing though... what was going on with Sheryl in SMS gear? And on a tv commercial no less? I know she enrolled in the pilot program, but I'm getting a very weird idea in my head... are they going to try and make a tv series for her based off of real life stuff where she fights the vajra? Or will it be something like a movie? Besides the obvious problems of SMS and publicity, what the heck is going on? The preview for next week was obviously looking like M0 stuff.. They aren't going to take a short side trip to earth, so it's probably safe to say that island is on one of the environmental ships. But I guess the question is how it may relate to the Sheryl/SMS tv ad.. is Sheryl overseeing it because she really is Mao's relative, or just for publicity? Or is she playing Sara? Having Ranka as Mao works well, gives her a nice jump from silly promotions like she's had so far.. hmmmm Well, I guess this does somewhat answer the question of whether the events of M0 are public yet or not. If they aren't yet, they will be soon. Btw, the person recording the meeting had to be that random secretary in the corner, she was the only person with a laptop, since everyone else had projections over the table. What I really want to know is what they were looking at on the screens... it looked a bit like someone with green hair... Quote
Bill C. Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I'll have to watch it again, but I know I completely missed it: who was the adversary that Jessica was trying to fire at that started that whole thing ? Apart from the leisure suit fetish... Quote

taksraven Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I'm really looking forward to the next episode, but I'm perplexed why the MF kids are on the M0 island. Perhaps it's an island in one of the colony ships in the M25 fleet? When I saw that shot for the upcoming episode all I could think of was the pier/jetty exploding with everybody on it. Kind of morbid I guess. Taksraven Quote
taksraven Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 The voice giving the V-27 orders did sound like, at least to me, to be Grace's-- coupled with her spying on the meeting, the pieces seem to fit What I can't understand is if the Vf-27 is some sort of secret unit, WHY does it have a NUNS emblem on it? Taksraven Quote
taksraven Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 If you're refering to the VF-171, they were not firing at SMS. If you're referring to the Purple VF, it hasn't been established yet that it is a NUNS fighter. Given the extreme technology differences, it is highly unlikely that it is a NUNS fighter, let alone a human-as-we've-seen-so-far-in-all-the-Macross-series vehicle. Has to have NUNS connection, otherwise it would not have a NUNS logo on it. (Yes, I believe its a NUNS logo now, they made it really obvious toady. Unless its like the old pirates trick of having flags of different nations handy depending on who you encounter. Taksraven Quote
Bill C. Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 The phrase "top secret" comes to mind. Especially since we still don't know who Harmonica answers to...it could be a shadow faction within the NUNS (assuming it's a united front), it could be a separate vocal faction of the NUNS, or it could even be one big fakeout and Leon's actually some sort of Vajra spy trying to bring the whole thing down from within... Quote
taksraven Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Being able to watch the RAW now, something I didn't notice watching over Keyhole, the character art took a hit in this episode. Its as bad as episode 6, I'd say. Bah, its not that bad. Only the part when they were zooming in on the meeting from above and Cathy and Leon had NO FACES and it kept zooming in on them. Looked like a real animation error, actually. Taksraven Quote
Project Phoenix Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I like this episode. We get to see Michel's actual spelling for his last name. Although the 171's action scenes are all stop motion, arguably you get to see them in Battroid form finally. I hope when they release a kit for the 171 they would include the sniper rifle. My only complain is the overly human response of Michel's 25 when it got slapped by Klan. It made me believed it was Michel's head behind that visor until I realize he is actually in the belly. Quote
junior Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I'm in the "Brera's boss doesn't sound like Grace" camp. After comparing the voice with Grace's voice at the start of the episode, I think Brera's boss has a slightly deeper voice. Grace's snooping is something that Sheryl is familiar with. Sheryl mentioned the bad habit in an earlier episode. It would appear that Grace has a natural curiosity to find out everything and anything that she can when she has time on her hands. And a classified high level meeting about the alien menace that threatens both Frontier and Galaxy seems the sort of thing that would naturally draw the attention of anyone. She could be working with Brera. Her position as Sheryl's manager would make an excellent cover for an intelligence mission on the other fleets in the area. But I'm pretty sure that she's not Brera's boss. Maybe now that Grace is aware of Leon and his importance in figuring out the Vajra, she'll spend time spying on him? One other item - This didn't really come from anything specific in the episode so far as I can tell, but it did occur to me while watching the episode. I suspect that there really is a mutual "interest" between Mikhail and Clan Clan, but due to the obvious difficulties in actually doing anything about the relationship (due to Clan Clan's problem while micloned) nothing is likely to come about (presumeably humans can't actually be macloned like Max was in DYRL). Under this theory, Mikhail deals with the issue by a form of denial that causes him to chase women that are exactly the opposite of Clan Clan - i.e. the older women that it's been stated that he prefers.
