biggooftoybox Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Hi everyone, With all the knowledgeable Macross denizens on this board I am sure someone has the answer. I've always wondered how come there are no toys or model kits for other lesser known valkyries such as teh VF-4, VA something (looks like the viking bomber), VF-5000 Star Mirage, Pheyos Valkyrie and the other lesser known valks? I've seen scratch builds of these before in various hobby magazines but no toys or mass released model kits. If anyone could enlighten me. Thanks Quote

Thanks Becuz they are lesser known, and originally designed not for Macross series? Also they were not featured prominently in any anime except maybe Dynamite 7. Quote
Sumdumgai Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 What wolfx said. If you want some details... The VF-4 first appeared as the VFX-4 model that Hikaru was messing around with in one episode of SDF Macross. It also appeared in the design you're probably more familiar with in the OVA Macross Flashback 2012. In that we only ever saw it in fighter mode (maybe gerwalk, I can't remember). It wasn't until Macross Digital Mission VFX for Playstation that Kawamori designed the official battroid mode for it. So up until the late 90s, it's not like there could have been a transformable toy or model made. The VF-3000 and VF-9 were eventually integrated into the Macross Universe and were new designs loosely based in the Macross Universe. Check out the "unreleased" section on the main Macross World page, then go to "advanced valkyrie". Those two designs were brought into the Macross Universe in the game Macross M3 for sega dreamcast (I think?). The VF-14 was also adapted into this game after making a cameo appearance in one of the Macross 7 Plus segments. The VA-3 Invader and VF-5000 appeared in the Macross Dynamite 7 OVAs. As it was already, Bandai didn't even get around to releasing the VF-17 Miria scheme valkyrie, much less release the VF-11C, any of the other Fire Bomber valkyries, the Fz-109 Elgarsoln, or a VF-22 (holy crap it would have looked ass-tasticly chunky). The Pheyos valkyrie made its first appearance in Macross Digital Mission VFX, and it was an annoying B**CH of a boss. Again, it was a new design, didn't appear in any anime, and I frankly think it's fu*k ugly. Hell at the time that this game came out there still weren't even any Macross Plus toys. Other than Yamato doing the Macross VFX2 1/72 VF-19A Excalibur (a repaint with fixes after the 1/72 YF-19), and making the 1/100 Macross VFX2 VB-6 Koenig Monster (which a lot of people hate the way it turned out), no major companies have even bothered touching the other non-anime valkyries AFAIK. Alex Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Is it the VA-3 Invader that was originally designed by Showboat Kawa-Whorey for some anime series based in a WWII style parallel universe? Quote
Sulendil Ang Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Yup, it's originated from A-9B Invader, an design from Air Cavalry Chronicle, which later becomes Escaflowne, one of Shoji's best non-Macross show. Quote
AcroRay Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Didn't B-Club do a VFX-4 resin kit? I know that's a resin kit and there are lots of oddity garage kits out there, but B-Club is a larger operation. Quote
DarkReaper Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I found this VF-5000 toy from Studio Half-Eye on the net. http://homepage2.nifty.com/manman/VF5000.htm Is that thing real and where can I get it? Quote
Zinjo Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) Wow!! I didn't realize just how much of those "Air Cavalry Chronicle" designs made it into Mac 7 and the Games!! both the A-9B and the III-C Baron Rouge both were re-worked in to the VA-3 and VF-9 respectively. Many of the ZaiBach fighters were re-worked into the Varuata fighters in 7... Edited June 20, 2008 by Zinjo Quote

Woah! I've never seen that before. IT looks awesome. Yeah I second that, where can I get it?? It does look a bit like it was a VF-19 conversion though. Maybe a VF-19 customization? Quote

Some other models they made. http://homepage2.nifty.com/manman/research.htm Guess you would have to pay a good 1000$ to get one of those as there only exist a few hundred of them. Quote
Sumdumgai Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 (edited) Those valkyries by Studio Half-Eye are models. I believe they're expensive and hard to find. The VF-5000 has a design and transformation that is reminiscent of the YF/VF-19. In particular the torso area and the way it folds over in battroid, and the rear area of the fighter looks similar in composition to the 19. I don't think that this model is a conversion, but I could be wrong. It's funny because I can see that it had an influence in the VF-25 design as well, with the location of the head in fighter mode. -edit: thanks for the clarification Graham! Graham Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 SHE products are resin garage kits. perfect transformation, but extremely difficult to build and quite fragile. They also loosen up very quickly after a few transformations as well. The VF-5000 has been out of production for quite a number of years, but you can still occasionally track it down online on in specialist hobby shops. Graham Quote
thegunny Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Our very own valk009 has released some excellent VF-4 recast kits (got a cupboard full myself ) so you might try him as he also has an amazing stash of other goodies that he lets go every now and again if the price is right . Quote
