Vinnie Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Lunar's translation has it as "...broke formation" during Galaxy's initial attack which could mean it was forced to separate from the fleet. It could meant it got cut off and trying to re-join would be too dangerous. After all, the Captain of the ship's primary responsibility is the safety of his crew and ship and in certain cases, at least in the US Navy, can disobey or refuse orders and directive if he/she deems that it endangers the safety of said crew and ship. That could be the very case here. "Broke formation" also sounds like tucking tail and running. While it is common to "break formation" to perform a maneuver such as an in-flight lead change, in military commonspeak breaking formation or breaking ranks can be synonymous with retreat, desertion, or collapse of discipline, especially in the face of overwhelming odds. I think you're forgetting that you can disobey an illegal order, but not a lawful one. A lawful order can mean certain death for you and those under your command, but it still must be executed. I imagine any escort ship, US Navy or NUNS, is under the standing orders "protect at all costs." Quote
Wes Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I think you're forgetting that you can disobey an illegal order, but not a lawful one. A lawful order can mean certain death for you and those under your command, but it still must be executed. I imagine any escort ship, US Navy or NUNS, is under the standing orders "protect at all costs." Reminds me of something I read about what a Sealord said around the Revolutionary War time, "Any idiot can follow orders, what we need out of an officer is to know when to and not to follow orders!" He was talking about a guy that was following stardard proceedure and blew the fight because of it. Now in this case I don't know it's hard to say what was lost in translation, and I don't hold Leon's opinion too highly, but if the captain knew the meaning of the order was "defend Galaxy" he might have known that they were boned and needed help, and only folding towards the nearest fleet could get help. The sad thing about entertainment is they make fights look so short and so clear but they really take days and it's hard for everyone to know what's going on. They could have realistically folded at the beginning, gotten to Frontier, mobilized something decent, and then been back with something that could repel the Vajra. I'm thinking more is that they had to get some information back or they saw something the Vajra didn't want out. I mean why take on the two weakest ships with no ability to fight instead of the stronger one that was a threat? Seems like they wanted to clean house and when Quarter showed up fighters weren't enough so they needed to send the big ship. I'm probably wrong but I think there's more to it then they were just bailing out. Quote
Kronnang Dunn Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) leon does not know brera and he is ally, a main character too, just look at the OP, he was standing next to quarter, which mean he will be in SMS next. By what I've seen up to this episode so far, I believe that Brera Sterne is an agent of Leon's N.U.N.S. faction (the true bad guys), but he will end up changing sides by the end of the series... you analyse the footage in frontier frame by frame? Hehehe, always do... Specially if something peculiar enough catches my attention... Check out the things I found in the original Macross Series... A Zentradi bathroom... And somehing else... (I should be a sniper, hahaha...) Edited May 28, 2008 by Kronnang Dunn Quote

Morpheus Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 After watching epi.8 again, I realized this homage: Ranka singing Aimo in the park while Alto and Sheryl flies overhead. -> Myung singing Voices in the field while Isamu zoom pass her in the biplane. Quote

The important thing, though, is that we really don't know. We can speculate on why the two ships left the fleet. But we really don't know exactly why it happened. They may have fled. They may have been cut off. They may have been ordered away. We just don't know at this point. I'm sure that if it really matters to the plot, then we'll probably find out within a few episodes. SymphonicRain Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 South Park is equivelant to Japan's Crayon Shin-chan. Both have its own share of fart and genital jokes And boy are both series incredibly popular despite their art. Quote

Lakan Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Such a good fun episode. The ruckus on the school was fun, now it is much more interesting to see the love story between the triangle of alto, sheryl and ranka when they are in the same school. Luca was funny, seem's like he's fond of his machines and give them names. I'm looking forward to the next.. Quote

ssfsx17 Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 DARN!!! Never realized that. Nice catch. So does this mean: Ranka = Myung Alto = Isamu Sheryl = Guld Actually, I think it's: Alto = Myung - passively waiting around and doing his own thing, but just happens to be the object of desire Ranka = Guld - a lot more quiet than her rival, and has a natural Zentraedi battle instinct that acts up with all issues relating to Alto Sheryl = Isamu - absolutely nuts, hasn't been thrown in jail yet because she's good at what she does This is also hinted at through their hair colors. ma2ha3 Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 just admit it ranka have no chance sheryl is too strong an love rival for her she should do luca instead. Quote

Major Focker Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 (edited) It will be interesting to see the Japanese ratings for this episode. If it beats episode 7, I will well and truely give up in my efforts to understand the Japanese anime viewing public. Graham you might want to reconsider that surprisingly, ep8 is the highest rated thus far http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?show...mp;#entry603283 Edited May 29, 2008 by Major Focker Quote
