Kronnang Dunn Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) We know nothing about him he could simply be a soldier doing as he is told. If the civil war theory holds true then Galaxy is going to want to get rid of SMS because they have top tech. On a whole though he had plenty of time and as fast as he was he could have taken down Mikhial who spotted him as well. There is something more to Brera then what we are seeing. Actually I hardly believe Galaxy could be a threat since its fleet got severely damaged by the Vajra. More than civil war seems like a weapons development race to me (between Galaxy NUNS & Frontier SMS.... Since Bilrer seems to be from Galaxy... who knows, hehe... maybe he left Galaxy NUNS & made SMS to counter it). Thanks to the subtitles I just realized that Brera's mission was really to analize the Vajra carrier (a type of ship never encountered before by NUNS... That's why Leon said "finally" & Mr. Bilrer seemed very very amused by it). Cathy Glass statements about gathering info before giving aid also make me think of this. The fact that Brera was folding at the end of the episode could indicate that he also was going to Frontier... Brera must have shot the gunpod to avoid anything that could keep him from fullfiling his mission. Luca & Alto really didn't matter anything to him. Since the Vajra carrier overcame the Fold dislocation it must be extremely advanced (hence NUNS interest in it). Luca said something about a fold reactor (the thing made of pink crystal I believe). I'm begining to see Protoculture/Birdman in there... Btw... does anybody here know the name of Mr. Richard Bilrer's seyuu? Edited May 21, 2008 by Kronnang Dunn Quote
Graham Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Ya' know I'm wondering if Brera is even physically in the cockpit of the VF-27. Perhaps he's actually somewhere else controlling it cybernetically or mentally by some sort of remote control system. I just thought this, cus' the place we see him floating looks a little too big to be a typical VF cockpit. Graham Quote
Graham Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Given the surprisingly low ratings for episode 7, I'm wondering if something like what happened with Macross Plus is happening here, in that for some reason Frontier appeals more to overseas fans than it does to Japanese? Graham Quote

BlueMax Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Ranka the "experiment". With Ozma assigned to protect the experiment. Wouldn't that be a nasty (but unlikely) plot development. I think that Ozma might know more than he is letting on though. Same as Leon clearly is. Taksraven You watch too much Heroes.... lol... sounds like the HRG Quote
Valkyrie addict Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Maybe Brena was playing a Kira Yamato by just disabling the enemy instead of killing them I know Brena will be Alto archnemesis simply cause they are firing at each other at the opening credits, hehehe the VF-27 must have active stealth, since noone notice they were around and it was so easily hidden, perhaps the VF-27 is special ops valk and Brenas orders were to infiltrate a Vajra capital ship and gather as much data possible, hence the NUNS dude satisfaction for a Vajra capital ship showing up, and perhaps Brena fired at Alto since his actions could jeopardize his covert mission and when he noticed the Quarter pounder coming he had no choice to bug out since the ship would go boom boom either way... just my crazy assumption so far, hehehe Quote

StrangeWill Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Ugh having a real difficulty between the video I streamed last night, and the video I downloaded tonight... I really doubt the Dulfim would ask the VB-6 to be gentle =\ "I'll leave it to you" seems a little more plausible considering they're being rescued. Also mixing song lyrics and character speech on the same part of the screen with the same font bugs me. Anyway, dumping all my Veoh downloads for nice high-rez Gattai releases. Edit: Err, now I'm thrown between Gattai (Good quality but iffy subs?), GG (slight reduction in quality, less iffy subs) or AiA (much larger reduction in quality, unknown sub quality). Humph. Duke Togo Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Civil war: Frontier vs Galaxy, winner: Vajra Macross tradition dictates that one of those sides will have to join the other against the third. Quote
ma2ha3 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Thus far Brera is rather unknown. We know he preceeded Alto into the Vajra mothership because he was spotted by Michel who didn't know who he was. Then succeeded in taking down several hammerheads inside before becoming tangled in the ship's tentacles. He seemed unconscious like Luca until he heard the singing and then acted. It is hard to tell if he shot the RVF-25's gun on purpose or in an attempt to help Alto get out of the tentacles. Either way he made no attempt to identify himself to the Frontier SMS squad and his motives are certainly not clear at the moment. That doesn't discount a three way battle, or at least groups with multiple hidden agendas that will undermine the others during the course of the show. Brera was not tangled in ship tentacles. He was not unconscious, he was hiding in the shadows. gathering intelligent. he must have save alto by destroying his gun. Quote

Graham I'm not surprised. Given how the ratings have been low since the beginning and the "plot" has only kicked in. Throw in the multiple other "School Drama's" that have come before and that they have been less flat and far more engrossing than M:F. AND that it's also being shown when Gundam 00, and CodeG are also on. The low ratings are not surprising at all! Music & Mecha action can only carry an anime so far and the characters and story have to carry it the rest of the way. Quote

andrian Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Does it really have low ratings? This has actually been bothering me for quite a bit. None of my friends actually likes Macross in general and prefer Gundam, Naruto etc etc I was even surprised when Macross was named the 80th most popular anime which was conducted online here http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2005-...i-top-100-anime And its not even in the top 100 of the other one http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2005-...00-anime-part-2 I dont know how accurate this ranking is, but to think that macross is not even in the top 50 is really disturbing Either that, or the rest of us here are really just very bias towards macross Quote
Duke Togo Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 You can't go by those "top" lists, time plays too much of a factor in it. Quote
Mr March Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Macross has been off the radar since the mid-1990s. That's basically a lifetime in the world of popular entertainment. WIth the exception of history and an aging fan following, Macross Frontier will have to earn it's audience as much as almost any other show. Personally, I'm not worried. Word of mouth has been very positive for the show so far and the ratings have been respectable. Quote

cyde01 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 here's a little help for the translators out there. i'm pretty sure that no one said "yasashiku shite" in the scene where the monster lands on the dulfim. it sounded like "kochira kara onegaishimasu" to me. "mina~!! bunka shiteru!!?" is a reference to the original macross TV. in the original macross TV series, some zentradi incorrectly referred to bunka, or culture, as a verb. example: kamjin to laplamiz "let's do some more culture later." so sheryl's comment can be translated as "everone~!! are you culturing!!?" it's probably a slang term that originated from zentradis experiencing culture shock when they integrated with human society. StrangeWill Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Well if they didn't say "yasashiku shite", what did they say? Err too bad the only languages I'm good with are English (kind of) and computer languages. Edited May 21, 2008 by StrangeWill Quote
cyde01 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 *sigh* rather than saying "yasashiku shite", i believe they said "kochira kara onegaishimasu." which means, "please do" or "we request that you do." therefore, the dialog goes like this: kanaria: "dulphim!! this is rabbit 1. i'm going to borrow your hull." dulphim: "dulphim to rabbit 1. by all means, we request that you do." darkrealmbahamut Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 It is impossible to get the exact wording because there is no such thing as translating. Every translator takes there artistic flourishes with wording so we are splitting hairs. As my Japanese professor says it isn't translating so much as interpreting what has been said. Quote
